I'm sorry to hear you had a sad day... Just know that along with the bad there is much good too. Although you may not have saved these babies, there will be plenty other days when you may save or help several lives. I'm happy you stayed and held that doggie. You are right...He needed love in his last few minutes. You sound like a very special person. |
In the last 4 years I had to have two very very ill dog pts. One had small intestent cancer he was only 3 . he had 2 operations to get rid of it but it came back again. My vet told me that if it would help him she would do a 3rd for free. but he did'nt have much intestent left. when it came time to put him to sleep they let me stay with him for as long as i wanted. i lay there with him on the floor for 4 hrs. I was alone and told hubby if we ever had to do it again he had to be there with me. the 2nd dog we lost just 3 months ago. She was 9. she had K-9 addisons. none of her treatments were working and she just lost all her will to live. the hubby was with me and i felt not so alone. The vet was ver gental with both my babies. I have both there ashes together along with pictures and other memory items. the job you do is very important I am very greatful to all the vet tecs and any one in the feild. they should have a holiday in your name. god bless you all:animal-pa |
Thank you for being there for that dog. I hope there was someone as caring when I needed to put down my Calico cat who developed liver issues and got so sick and dehyrated in two days that she couldn't even stand. My cat who let NO ONE hold her allowed me to hold her for several hours. When the decision was made to PTS I really wanted to hold her till the end. But her dehydration was so severe they knew they were going to have difficulty starting the IV, so when they took her away to start the IV, I opted to not have them bring her back to me. Bless all you who make a moment of someone's elses life special. |
NewMommy you sound like the kind of person I would want to take care of my babies. At my vet's office they are cold and rude. I have to find a new vet that my babies like and so do I. |
Newmommy I wish someone like you had been there for me when we had to have our Doberman Gretta pts, she was almost 15 years of age, had a stroke was unable to stand and went blind we had to place her on a board and lift her into the back of our suburban to take her to the first vet's office we came to. The vet tried to talk me out of staying with her but I held her and wouldn't leave, after the vet did what was needed to be, walked out of the room. The vet never said a word to me and one of the techs told me that Gretta was free from pain now. That hurt so bad that the Vet had no compassion. I was so thankful that I stayed with Gretta till the end. After that I was very careful on choosing my vet, I am so glad that those in your area are so fortunate to have an office such as you work in with loving caring people as yourself, and no doubt your vet as well.
