Why did you pick your baby? I was just wondering... how did you know that you were meant to be with your dog? If you bought from a breeder and got to choose, why did you pick that puppy? Were you looking for a certain temperament / look? Did you pick them because they come up to you and you just knew? |
I called a couple of breeders and I talked to Cali's breeder for 45 minutes and really liked her. She only had one puppy left but she said she keeps the best for last so that if she doesn't sell the puppy she has the best of the litter. When we went to see Cali she was so tiny and cute, she didn't have a lot of coat but I fell in love instantly and put the deposit down and picked her up 3 weeks later. |
i called everyone trying to find a yorkie puppy to buy and felt like i would never find one but then a vet told me about the breeder and i called and she had two girls! i was so excited i was there in about 15 minutes lol i just knew i wanted gracie idk why lol i had her payed for and home a few hours later! lol |
I picked Diesel for a few reasons. He had the shorter nose and he was the smaller of the 2. His brother was already over 2 pounds and they were 9 weeks going on 10 weeks at the time. I know a lot here say size doesn't matter to them but it did to me. I wanted a Yorkie because they don't shed and they are small. So size mattered to me. It is much easier to take a 5 or 6 pound dog around than a 10 plus dog. He also had the most adorable little face. Diesel never was a very outgoing pup. He was always very shy. When he was around his mom and brother he was wide open! We spent at least 45 mins with the pups and the mom. My husband was paying her while I was playing with them. Michelle |
Sex Price Location She was the only female in the litter. I now would we more choosey. For my second one. Breeder Sex Qualities/Pedigree |
I contacted a lot of breeders and had them email me pics of the puppies and pics of the parents since most of them were a couple of hours away. I picked the CUTEST one with the CUTEST parents. Also, we were looking specifically for a MALE under $1000. |
Well when I see Maddie for the first time I just fell in love with her. Jill had posted a pic of the puppies she was selling in a basket. I see the one on the left hand side and fell in love. I was joking around a emailed Jill that I needed the little baby on the left. She said she is so adorable. We call her fur face cause she is loaded with all kinds of fur... (my heart melted) She said you really need to get her Denise. I had Parker at the time and had no intentions of getting looking for another one. Well, me and Jill talked on and off all night, cause I was trying to find Missy a puppy cause she had just lost Kloey. So me trying to help a friend, ended up me helping Missy find Jill and Me getting Maddie. Things just all worked out right like they were meant to be. If it wasnt for Jill, I would not of had Maddie. Maddie didnt go home until she was 13 weeks, but I went to see her before and I knew she was something special and oh soooo cute too!!!! |
I had been searching for a long time, and I posted in the puppy wanted forum. I had talked to several breeders and then someone sent me a PM that she had a puppy who was the only one in the litter...a little boy. After talking with her and seeing photos, I somehow felt that this was the right one. I liked the fact that the parents are on site and that they are extremely healthy. She only breeds healthy dogs within the breeding standard. She was really good about answering my questions, and in fact, she encouraged me to ask as many questions as I wanted. We are in touch daily, and I feel that we have developed a good friendship. She loves and cares alot for my little guy, and we plan on keeping in touch so that she can see little Jake grow up.:) |

I called several breeders and thought I had a puppy picked out here in town. That fell through. So I called this lady that was highly recommended and she had a lil girl that sounded just like I wanted. So off we went to look at her. As soon as I saw her, I knew she had to go home with me. She had every feature I wanted. And she was the sweetest lil girl. She loves to give kisses. She has been a wonderful baby. |
Why I picked STEDDY I had always been very, very picky about the faces when I was looking for a little Yorkie. I like the lighter colored coats (especially the faces), shorter noses, and "teddy bear" looking faces with the big round eyes and really puffy/chubby cheeks. Also, I wanted a smaller Yorkie, in the 3-4 lb range. And no, not because of all of the "t-cup" hype, because that is a bunch of nonsense. I simply wanted a smaller dog because for most of my life, I have had bigger dogs, or dogs that weighed 50 + lbs (except my mini Doxie!), and I wanted a very small dog that could easily sleep in the bed with us, that could jump in my lap while I was watching t.v., and a little dog that was easy to pick up with one hand...and not to mention the portability factor ;) Yeah, I know...PICKY RIGHT?? :p :D LOL. Anyway, after looking for SEVERAL months, I finally found my little guy, he was, and still is, PERFECT! :D I just basically knew exactly what I wanted, and didn't buy until I found it ;) The main reason I picked him was because of his face, and because of his bratty little attitude lol! I just thought it was too cute for words!!! :p |

I've been looking for a yorkie for past 2 years. It took so long BC I didn't find a local breeder that I'll like. not, until march 2006 when I found a great breeder 2 hours away. I saw pictures of the parents online, and I fell in love with this specific couple., so I put deposit on little girl, back in march, and I went and got LILO almost 4 weeks ago. I've pick LILO from 3 girls from that litter. She was the most outgoing one, and she wasn't afraid of us, when we tried to play with them. ,the other ones, didn't want to have anything to do with us, just crawl in the corner and shake from fear of people. plus that, even before I went to get her, my breeder told me that LILO is the biggest terror and trouble maker from the litter of 5 ( 3 girls & 2 boys). |
We had just lost Boog in September of '04 and I had mixed emotions about getting another Yorkie but couldn't find any other breed that really excited me. In March of '05 there was an ad in our local paper for a small male Yorkie so I drug my husband over to look...just to look  There he was, so tiny, 4 1/2 months old, 2 pounds 3 oz. and hair sticking up in every direction! He was living with a lady and her 10 pound Yorkie who was quite rough with Jo...she had only had him for 3 days and decided it wasn't working. I took him for the day, went to the vet, he got a clean bill of health and told her I wanted to keep him. He's turned into a beautiful, small Yorkie with a shiny silk coat. :D As for Riley...he was a surprise from my husband after we moved to Florida. Jo needed a playpal and I really wanted a small girl but he took me to look at Riley. He was small too...2 pounds 8 oz. I think at 14 weeks and that's what I wanted to match Jo's size. He wasn't in the best of circumstances, he hadn't been loved on and was kind of shy...honestly, he was the scruffiest looking, short haired, long legged Yorkie puppy I had seen for a long time but he was from my husband so it was just fine. Boy was I wrong about Riley...he's turned out beautiful with a lovely silk coat...he's my ugly duckling story for sure! He was given a clean bill of health and brought home to meet Jo...they've been inseperable, best buddies every since! :D Now...if I could just find the perfect little girl or two....... |
:) I picked mine out of 3 other brothers, they were all males. I chose him number one because he had the shortest face, also, he had a smaller fatter head. The other boys had long noses with skinny long faces. He was also the smallest (but at the same time the pudgiest). The other boys were taller but skinnier. Aside from the one BIG BOY they had! He was already 3.5 pounds!Plus, he just sat there really pretty and didnt say a word, he just stared at me. The others were jumping and crying. Now he is a cryaholic! I am just hoping he outgrows that real quick! |
For as long as 1 year and a half I was looking for a Yorkie. A breeder was referer to me by a collegue at work. I know exactly what I was looking for, I even take canine psychology course to know more about dogs and to know how to choose the best puppy. What was sure was that my next furbaby will weight around 6-7 pounds. But when I saw that little tiny boy, all my knowledge fell down, nothing stand Even do I known that he will weight around 4 pounds I fell in love with him and want to go ahead with him. |
Tillys breeder had very resonable prices. It was where my mom got her Yorkie so I already knew the breeder and she was very friendly and caring. She still emails me and asks how Tilly is doing. We basically had a choice of Tilly or another female named Babee. Moms already had Baby and we were afraid it would cause to much confusion. Tilly melted our heart from the start! |
1 Attachment(s) That face, need I say more  |
My sweet merlot I had a yorkie before that died of Parvo, so after years of consideration and research I came across a breader not too far from my home. In the wine country actually, that's where he got his name from. Anyhoo-he was the smallest one with the hugest attitude! I knew he was meant for me after first glance. I got him at 10 weeks and Merlot and I have been together ever since.:animal36 |
Kizzy: I was looking for a small girl. this breeder had one wasnt suppose to get over 4 lbs and would be too small to breed. When I saw her I fell in love with her and even tho she was suppose to be 4 lbs and is 8 lbs now at 7 month, once you love one, you keep loving it. Maggie: first time i saw her, it looked like she had no legs. she was walking around on the concrete floor slowly and her hair was on the floor. looked like she had paws attached to her tummy. she was so cute. she was scared and was kinds crawl walking. she finally raised up on her legs and she still didnt have much for legs. she had the cutest face ive seen and her hair is so thick i can barely pull it apart and see her skin. I knew then, I couldnt walk away without her and I didnt. now I got her and Kizzy both and i'm a happy camper.I knew nothing about them except my sister in law had one already 10 yrs old, 8 lbs and beautiful, who i'm not around much as they are retired and travel. So i've learned a few things here and on other links people here have shared. |

I wasnt really intending to get a certain breed when I found the breeder who was selling Darla. I thought a small breed dog would be nice and had picked up a few books on different breeds. When I did go to the breeders house Darla and her brother were the only two left in the litter. I saw her from across the room and went right over to her..picked her up...put down my deposit and the rest is history!! With Reece we KNEW we wanted a Yorkie!! I called the breeder and she had two litters available but the first litter was selling fast and the second litter wasnt going to be ready for a month..I told her I would pick out a pup from the second litter as I was sure I wouldnt make it down to her home until late in the afternoon and she had quite a few appointments that day and only 2 pups left. When we arrived she made us quite comfortable on her beautiful porch and brought out the babies in a basket. After talking for a while I asked her if she sold the first litter or not. She hadent!! She had one little boy left..he was the smallest...cutest IMO!! I knew when I set my eyes on him that he belonged with US!! I put down my deposit and we are picking him up this weekend!! Dawn |
Well when i was looking for a puppy i sent out MANY emails to breeders and when Cindy (layla's breeder) got back to me it turned out she had a litter ready to go right when i wanted to get layla (may.. when school was done) also we were looking for a female for under 1000. when the litter was born there were 3 females and i had to pick shortly after they were born. but from day one layla had the sweetest face. as she sent updated photos (she lives in Ohio.. i'm from London ontario) layla was always the cutest.. ok.. i'm biased! but i just had a feeling about her! and i was right :p |
Thanks for telling all these great stories! I hope I'll have one to tell soon :) |
I went back to the same breeder I got my bunny from... At the time the breeder was thinking about keeping her (my bella) I wanted a girl and was waiting to see if she was going to have any more.. well she e-mailed me and told me she was not going to keep her(my bella) so she sent me a pic and it was love at 1st sight! :luvu: After I took her, she had girls coming out of her ears :p well maybe not her ears but she had like 5 or 6 girls born the day I flew back home, to go pick up my bella :p |
I picked up my Yorkies because they needed to have a new home . Nathan was only 3 days old . He was in a cage with his dying mother and dead sister . My friend asked me if I was ready to take care of him , I said yes and now he is such a sweet little guy . Jade and late Mitsou came from peoples who suddenly decided that they didn't have time to take care of them . |
