I need to Vent So tonight was James first night at his puppy training classes @ petsmart, it went really well. On our way out we were looking at some treats and other stuff and this lady with a yorkie came up to me and was like "Oh what kinda of dog IS THAT??" I said he is a YORKIE!!!!!! and her response was.....I didnt reconize him as a yorkie?? Either she was blind or talking about another dog because James looks like a friggin yorkie if you ask me!!! And then she threw in the, well how big is he gonna get? I was like about 8lbs and she started giggling saying that hers is only 4lbs full grown, I said good for you but I didnt want a dog that is too small just b/c I would be a nervous wreck about everything and she was like what do you mean??? I just walked away from her and I hope I never run into her again:mad: Sorry she just pissed me off!! |
What a witch!!!! I'm dog sitting a 7 pounder and I LOVE!!!! the size!!!! I would go big!!! Lucy is an awesome gal!!! Bigger is so sutrdy and so much more to love!!! And she can jump up on the bed all by her self!! lol |

That was the best thing you could have done. She was being a smarty pants and personally little (if not alot) of a show off because her yorkie was smaller. I am sure I would have done the same thing. |
Some people are just ignorant. So how did he do in his class. I took my guys to their first obedience class last night. They did better then some of the dogs that had been there before. We have a lot of homework to do though. |
Seems like everyone has ran into some rude person tonight! You did the right thing! Hopefully if you see her next time, it'll be when she's stepping in some poo left by a St. Bernard. :p |
some people are just so stupid!! I had a lady ask me one time about peeka when we were at petsmart he was only 12 weeks and very tiny she comes up and goes how old is he (thats fine) is he a toy? i'm like all yorkies are toys she goes no will he be 2 lbs i'm like no prob like 4-5 and she's like o i just had mine die it was only 1 lb at like 6 months or something and she's like i'm going to look at one the mom is only 3 lbs and the dad is 2 lbs i was like omg lady and i told her well you know some of those really tiny yorkies have health problems and she's all o i know we just lost one. the nerve of some people she didn't even care just as long as it was about 2 lbs when it was grown and looking at peeka like o 4 lbs when he's full grown wow thats huge. i have nothing against people on yt who have the tinies because at first i wanted one to but the nerve of some people when they see you on the street with that attitude drives me nuts!!! |
By the way all of you who are going to petsmart how do you like it and how old are all your babies? Peeka is 15 weeks tomarrow and gets his last set of shots on monday i wanna start taking him but wanted to finish his shots first. |
ya i like the teacup size dogs like that 2lbs but if they will run into alot more health issues i rather stay away , mine is 2.1lbs right now, taking to vet tomorrow prob be alittle more by .2 or something prob be no more then 5lbs petsmart is fine they have decent stuff same for petco, petsmart i use banfield hospital but only gonna be 1yr, alot of places have issues for banfield , i think i'll be ok with them , vet seems he been in the business for awihle he knows what he is doing, on the puppy plan so once the year is up i goto a reg vet like privatly owned somewhere else - - - - 2months will be next week actually |
sorry i just reread my post and i'm so not a valley girl lol i said like like 50 times lol sorry all hehe |

People really amaze me sometimes. James sure looks like a yorkie to me....an adorable one! |
Ugh! What an idiot! I don't get why people with smaller dogs think that they are better. What's the big deal? You did well by walking away. After all the dumb comments I have heard, I would have felt like smackin her one! |

Ya know, that reminds me of something that a woman said to me when my daughter was a newborn. I had her at the dr. for a checkup, and a woman said to me "she looks NOTHING like you". What a stupid thing to say to a new, first-time mother! I just said "well, I can guarantee you that after 37 hours of labor, she IS mine". Geez, so she looked like her father, is that so unusual? People just don't think. I try not to let them get to me because their opinions don't matter anyway.:) |
How rude of her, he looks like a beautifull YORKIE to me:rolleyes: :aimeeyork |
so far I have a little one and a big one. But maggie is just now almost 3 months and she might just grow up to still be big. But they both have there advantages of being their own size. kizzy can jump on things, run up and down steps, can stay outside by herself in the fence and play. Maggie cant jump on much of anything, maybe her 2or 3 inch high bed, She can come up and down the steps alone now but it takes her longer as her butt almost goes over her head going down and she can get thru the fence holes. So they have advantages and disadvantages just like tall and short people. dogs are like people. they are what they are and nobody can change. I have never minded the fact that Kizzy got big, I just mind the fact of thinking i was lied to and I still have to wonder at that. Guess I always will. |

I'm not sure who mentioned treats (sorry I'm tired and I can't be bothered to look back) but can I suggest you try Zukes Minis. They are small treats, dry but soft, so I will often cut into 3 with my thumb nail (long nails) and just use one third of this treat for training. I find 4 or 5 of these treats is usually enough for a short training session with my boy. He LOVES them, esp the Salmon ones. I've found them at several pet stores, although I haven't looked at Petsmart. |
I am a very (and I mean very very) shy person. Most probably because English is my second language. I just don't feel comfortable confroting people, so I usually end up walking away, thinking "poor soul." Having said that, Mia is on the larger side. She is 19 weeks and 5 1/2 lbs. I wanted a small dog, meaning less than 20 lbs. I've got a small dog. I am very happy with my small dog, as a matter of fact. Anyway, several weeks ago we were in an upper-scale-ish pet supplies store, and a lady that works there asked us how old Mia is. I told her, almost 4 months. At the time, Mia was 4 lbs. I thought the lady's eyes were going to pop out of her stupid head. She was absolutely scandalized about the size of my Mia. I just wanted to say, "What? She is smaller than your butt!!!!" Do I go around telling people, "excuse me ma'm but you/your child is larger than the homo sapien standard"? You bet, I don't. But, of course, I could not, and would not say anything to the offending lady. I am just not going to shop there anymore. I wish people would be more tactful about their ignorance and pretentiousness. Am I asking too much? |
I really can't believe how little people care about how they make others feel. We see people all the time saying people ONLINE need to watch what they say - but I see so many posts where someone dealt with a RUDE PERSON face to face...and can't believe it. Why would anyone walk up to someone in public say stupid things about their dog ? What's even funnier is it's usually the people who call their little itty bitty dogs TEACUPS that sound the most ignorant. Any YT member who's dealt with this can just feel good that they are far better informed than any of those 'teacup' owners. and probably WAY better guardians/owners than those silly people who think they know everything and have the nuts to say things like that. People that spend thousands of $$ to get super small dogs can be proud of themselves - they probably helped buy someone a new car (or Boat...or trip to the bahamas) .:p :p :p :p :p |

Well I was always told a toy breed is a toybreed and there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie LOL so I guess those people with their teacups are pretty special??? I have a coffee cup with yorkie pups printed on it..does that count as a "teacup" because I can drink tea out of it too? LOL |
some ppl are just smug and ignorant... i'm sorry you had to deal w/that kind of person the petsmart classes where i am is $109 and last 8wks i would recommend them to anyone :) |
Actually I'd prefer a larger Yorkie and hope when I get my boy in Feb he's one of the larger types. Lily's taught me awhole lot about the tiny's. my Vet says if Lily survies she'll most likely only be 3 pounds and that's if we're lucky. and she'll be on meds her whole life and if we don't find a shunt next week. So I think I'd prefer the larger sized toy breeds. Don't get me wrong I'll fight to the death of me or my pockets for Lily, but if larger gives you a better shot at healthy and longer life. Than sign me up for the 6 plus pound Yorkie,Chi,poodle. right now anytime I'm seprated from Lily,it's cause she's at the vet or being watched by my husband in his lap. as Lily's known to take a fit and fast. |
We took Jasmine to almost all of our Granddaughters softball games this summer. There was always someone coming up to me and telling me they had a Yorkie but their's was smaller. Jasmine is 5 lbs and very tiny boned and delicate. She is the perfect size as for me. She seems to be as healthy as a horse. She is over a year old now and never had a medical problem of any kind. To me a 5 lb dog is a VERY small dog. One lady came up to me and said "Is that a Yorkie?" Jasmine is a perfect speciman of a Yorkie. To me she looks exactly like the standards for a Yorkie. So DUH? Of course she is a Yorkie. The lady went on to say she had one but he was smaller (Of course he was) and he was all black & tan. Jasmine has a lot of silver in her coat. I explained that some have the silver that is why there is the blue and gold color on the registration. She commented on how well behaved Jasmine was and went go on to say that she couldn't bring hers to a ballgame because he was too hyper and would never behave as well as Jasmine. I am always so proud of her when we take her places she is always so good. |
She knew he was a yorkie that's the whole reason she came up to you in the first place she was just being a B*&%^ |
