If you dont find the nutrical you can also get it from your vet thats where I got Mine. Its always good to have on hand. A couple months ago Chachi got sick and had diahrea and wasnt eating and I gave it to him and he is 20 months olld.

I'm pretty sure the original recommendation for daily Nuti Cal was for the 7 wk old puppy she started with not the 12 week old. Seven weeks is awfully young and those of us that are not breeders would rather be safe than sorry. My breeder (very reputable) recommend keeping it on hand and so does my vet. Sugar is 3 lbs at 1 1/2 years old and you bet I keep it on hand. Occasionally he refuses breakfast and I give him a pea size. We haven't had any problems and he is a healthy little boy. I don't think anyone is saying they should have it every day for life.

I am not familiar with the different registries butif your not breeding or showing I really dont think it matters what registry they are. My dogs are AKC and I never turned in the paperwork. Its still in a drawer with all their shot info.

I never said that a puppy needs sugar "daily" to keep healthy. I said that if you bring home a new puppy and it is under 12 weeks old and/or is not eating enough or not at all, then you need to give it something to prevent a hypoglocemic attack, i.e. NutriCal/NutriStat/Kyro. The person who started this thread had a 7 week old puppy. At that age, a puppy's liver can't store energy for long periods of time, especially with additional stress factors like bringing it into a new home. Thus, I recommended supplementing.

Okay now I have to post about these little blues,I get very defensive about them we have had 2 both males both born blue BOTH to this day have turned black and have a full coat and NO problems.
RIni and I have discussed this alot.I think it depends on how much white they have at birth on them and how blue they are ,are they all blue no tan etc.
One of our little ones was loosing his hair at 10 weeks put him on melatonin and now he has turned black and has a thick coat.Not all blue have the alopecia gene.
I have lots of pics of them if you want some.They are not a heartache they are just like any other yorkie just a different color.You may have problems with it may not. look in the sick posting here ,look at all the problems these guys can have(Yorkies) and they are not blue.

I don't have any experience with yorkies, and I certainly don't know everything and won't have my puppy for another week, but I made an appt. at the vet for him today, and they mentioned keeping Nutrical on hand in case the puppy doesn't eat when he first comes home. My vet is very reputable and has been in business for years.

I don't think anyone ever said to give the puppy Nutrical unless he wasn't eating. I've read ALOT of posts here recommending using it IF THE DOG ISN'T EATING. I've also read posts about people who didn't use it and the puppy died. So, I choose to take my vet's and my breeder's advice and keep the Nutrical on hand.

That is so great. I'm really happy for you. Sometimes when you get surprises like that, you just know you made the right decision.

I believe that breeder knew about the puppy being blue born, he was just hoping you were too naive to know any better.

Thank The Lord you came to YT to ask questions, it probably saved you a lot of heart ache.

It was noted that not all have this problem, and Redvet mentioned that Rini had one. But I certainly would not want to buy one and risk the heartache. As you said there are enough other problems, why increase the risk by buying a high risk one.

If I had one born to me, I would not want to sell it, and make someone else take the risk. I would consider it special and keep it, with the knowledge that it could have some real issues.

I totaly agree, and I believe I gave the same information.

I got mine at 9 weeks and I put karo in the water for 3 weeks. I did not want to risk hypoglycemia. I felt better to be safe than sorry.

Why would you even make such an insulting statement. It certainly isn't going to hurt the puppy and it may prevent a huge problem. Look at how many people come on here and post that they lost their puppy within two days of buying it, due to seizures, etc. they are just positive that they were sold a sick puppy. And I am just as positive that they died of hypoglycemia. Why take the risk.

I had someone ask me once why I gave my kids vitamins, that they appeared to be healthy and active. Well I did it just because I felt better to be safe than sorry.

I agree 100%.:thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: It is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. Out of all the people that post here, I've never heard of anyone's yorkie getting sick or dying from NutriCal giving in the proper manner (not everyday for their whole life!).

I totally agree nutrical or kayro syrup is a great supplement for puppies that aren't eating properly. :)

I'm very glad you got a new puppy and your money back. I feel badly for the little blue guy though. I sincerely hope the breeder is right and it doesn't have problems, but I personally wouldn't want to take the chance.

When I got my first puppy the breeder told me to keep Kayro syrup on hand, or these little vanilla drop sugar things (I forgot the name). On my second pup I was told to keep Nutrical on hand. I never had to use them since my pups had healthy appetites and mine were bigger puppies too.

I have to tend to agree here, I've not been breeding 20 years, but to date I've never had a puppy or a WELL adult have a sugar drop, even while fasting for a bile acid test. If you give young puppies Karyo syrup on a regular basis, you are telling its pancreas to overproduce insilun and you will end up with a diabetic dog. Nutrical after a stressful situation, or if they are not eating well, is another thing...and is perfectly fine, but like anything else, use in moderation.

Please, understand, people take their time to educate others here, and when people repeatedly disregard advise, it tends to get frustrating.. Don't buy your puppies from puppymills, don't buy puppies less than 12 weeks old, don't buy puppies from untested parents, clear lines, or make sure puppies are tested.. NO CKC is not good! (unless it is the canadian kennel club) WHY you ask? Because that and all of the other registries (apri, aca, etc.) have popped up simply so dogs on LIMITED registration can be bred anyways against their breeders wantings, and the pups can be REGISTERED so someone who doesn't know any better will buy them. They were sold on limited for a reason! 2nd main reason why these other registries are used, the breeder is suspended from AKC for violations! I don't know about the rest of you, but if I were in the market for a pet puppy.. I don't want to buy from a breeder with those kind of ethics! You're asking for trouble.

Please, before buying puppies...RESEARCH! A puppy is a LIFELONG family member, you owe it to yourself and your family, and that puppy, not to mention the breed as a whole to do your homework!

:welcome4: :cheers: :happyboun I am so happy for you and your daughter. I am so sad for the other little dog but personally, I would of taken it back once I knew something was wrong. Even tho they say not all of them will be sickly or die, the point is, your paying for something you want to enjoy and not something to add another worry to your life as it seems you have your handsful enough. If anyone says you should of kept it because they had one and it was fine, give them the breeders phone number and let them buy it. Its your money and your problem once you get it and I think if a buyer buys to have a pet, the breeder should refund the money for any health reason. Nobody wants to buy a sick dog and not even the breeder wants to keep one as you can see, this guy didnt.
I do agree about using the nutrical when their not eating good or have diarreah unless a vet tells me not to. My vet gave it to me for Maggie when she had coccidia to take till she was eating better and the diarreah was gone. He said just a little bit a couple times a day.
Anyway, i'm just happy yu got the other baby and I do hope you enjoy it and your daughter does too and you all enjoy a long life full of good things.
