Those babies are beautiful! I'm in love with the last one...what a sweetie-pie! I can't imagine Max being still long enough to get a perfect topknot like that...but they're gorgeous! I LOVE YORKIES!!! :D |
2 Attachment(s) They really ARE gorgeous !! I have Chanel who has very thick hair ...she's been cut in a puppy cut three times in the last year and a half.... and her hair has already grown back to this - So....HAVE FAITH and be patient with your yorkies hair - it will grow and depending on the type of hair your baby has - you will be able one day to use bows....barrettes and maybe braid their hair ... I couldn't do this when Chanel was under a year old - but now we play Stylist all the time ! I posted a close up of Cheri who is 10 months - her hair is in a band then the flower has velcro and it just goes over the band but it keeps her wild hair up and out of her eyes if this helps anyone - |
Long hair is hard. You have to take constant care of it in order to look the way those pictures do. And even then, the texture might not be there-especially if you have pet quality. Baxter had very long hair until I cut it several months back. It almost touched the floor. It was pretty. It tangles very, very easy though, so we got it cut. The person who cut it shaved him...well, didn't shave him, but it was very, very short. I told her I wanted it short and that's what she did (told her puppy cut, but it sure seemed very, very short). After that, I let it grow out for a few months and went somewhere else. This person is great. It am letting it grow out again, but not too long. I have his hair up (it's pretty short still so it looks kind of silly right now), but the boys don't like it that way-they think he looks like a girl. I don't put bows in it-just bands. I will probably end up getting the head cut because my boys hate it. I learned too not to let the groomer touch the hair on the face. The last one cut the hair on his muzzle and it sticks out now. Needs to grown-should be part of his mustache. |
After reading about Baxter - I remember Chanel first BAD cut - I asked for a puppy cut and I got Sampson the Lion - She looked HILARIOUS !! I didn't stop laughing for a week.....tiny little body and all this hair on her head - It was cute but way too short - it actually CHANGED the texture of her hair and since then - the black on her back has silver mixed in with it - I now am learning to be their groomer - It may take me 2 days to get the look I want but now I don't worry about someone taking the SHAVER to their faces or other parts I don't want cut ! and you're so right - IT's LOTS of work ! I just got Reviva Coat from Plush Puppy and it's really helping tame the hair on Chanel plus it's a great conditioner that you leave in.... |
How bad was the ringworm? Cookie also had ringworm when we brought him home and we didnt know until the vet told me. Shaving him was an option + medicine. I chose not to shave him and gave him medicine, spray, ointment and finally pills! IT took like 3+ months to finally cure him. The spot where he had ringworm had no hair. IT was the worst spot because it was on top of his head where I wanted to put a bow! I've wondered how to do that topknot too! I've put bows on my daughter's hair and made it puffy towards the front . But dog's silky hair is so fine that I could never get it like that on Cookie! I'm going to tell the groomer next time to just cut his hair on the bridge of his nose but NOT the eyebrow area. Iwill just leave it long even if it falls over his eyes for a while. I'd love to see my little boy with a blue bow on :) Genie |
I hope Mojo's hair gets like that...right now it is only a few inches from touching the floor...but i will try my best and keeping it extra long:) Mojo always has a bow or something in his topknot, he does not mind it at all...actually he hates having his hair loose... |
Id give anything to have Schatzie's hair look like that. However she was not blessed with the lovely silky coat. We are still trying to grow it all out and boye does it take patience!! It is a lot of work which I don't mind but I do wish she had a better coat! |
I used a wrapping jacket to keep Candy silky and smoothe. 14 yrs ago there were silk wraps to put the hair in and it made the hair silky and smoothe, don't know for sure if there is still anysuch thing but I did find these things awhile back here is a link, http://www.yorkie.org/ scroll down to grooming and you'll see wraps and wrapping jackets... |
top knot It is beyond hard to make a ring top knot look like those..they make videos to teach just that one aspect of grooming. No cutting of any kind allowed..I use gel to keep the hair laying down while it grows, so it won't stick in the eyes. What I find so hard is the teasing and setting glue..afterwards it breaks the hairs off..so I have to use more styling glue and spray, more teasing and poofing...then the top knot gets ratty looking and thin..this part is a true art and a handler sure earns their money in my eyes. |

How does it work when they have to go to the "bathroom"? |
the uder part is cut out in that area, and because the hair is all rolled into the jacket there is no mess... |
red98vett I just want to say Chanel and Cheri are so beautiful! |
