You know what ticks me off? When random people think it's OK to come up to you and comment about the appearance of your furbaby. I had a man in Petsmart say to me in passing, "Wow. That's a BIG yorkie!" Why? Because he's healthy and within the breed standard??? Because he isn't 2.5 lbs and in my purse?? (Not there's anything wrong with a purse pooch!) He's a d-o-g DOG!! He's not a toy and he likes to run around outside and play with sticks and has a healthy puppy appetite. I happen to think he's gorgeous and handsome! I wouldn't walk up to someone and say, "Hey, you're kid has big bones!" That's all... just needed to vent. |
I heard that too for the first time about a week or so ago. "Wow, that's big for a Yorkie." Well, technically she is, but we don't need to hear your face announce it! PS. No, I didn't say that, but that's what I was thinking. :p |
don't even bother... They like to 'give friendly advice'... Before I got J.J I was at Petco looking at doggy stuff. A woman started chatting about her puppy. After she heard I was getting a Yorkie, she was like 'Good Luck'. (??). In the vets office, there's always someone commenting. Once that he's a 'teacup', the other time that he's big for a Yorkie puppy. I stopped paying attention to that. |
I think those of us with larger Yorkies have heard several remarks over time. Your right when you say people think they are these tiny tiny creatures who get carried around in a purse size bag. Some are and some aren't! Buddy is one who is not. I would need an overnight bag to stick him in. At 13.5lbs people have said "Is that a real Yorkie" What the heck does that mean?:D He's breathing, it that real enough? |

You should have asked him what he would know about it.:D He's cute! Nothing else matters, does it?:p |
Big or little we all get comments. The one I'm always getting is,,, that's not a dog that's a rat. Or they're always calling Gus a girl. When I tell them that he is a boy, 8 out of 10 times they ask well then why do you have a ponytail on him? He could be wearing boy shirt that say,,, Bit**** love me, or camouflage clothing with his name on it and they still think he's a girl. |
Just laugh and say, "No, it's a small St Bernard!":p |

And then, of course...some people are just idiots or snobs! :p |

I know what ya mean. One of my supervisor saw a picture of my boys and started making fun of them. Really pissed me off, I feel like telling him off. He asked me what kind of a dog is that? told him its a yorkie and he said no it isnt! I have a yorkie's calender on my wall , he pointed out, now thats the real yorkie suppose to looks like. Just because my boy is big and his ears isnt up. He think I dont know my breed. Gosh i'm so tired of telling these idiots thats yorkie doesnt have to be tiny. |
devoted to Lucy! If people can't coo at your furbaby or say something nice, they should just keep their mouths shut. Lucy's not a teacup, she's a standard and that's exactly what I wanted. I wanted a baby I wasn't afraid to play with for my first yorkie. Teacups are beautiful, but I don't think they're for everyone. Kim and Lucy:aimeeyork |
Way To Go!!!! Good For You!!!! Quote:
LOL that was AWESOME!!!! :D     :D |
you know i get that same question about my teeth.:D :D your teeth are so pretty are they yours and real?. :scratchhe WELL of course they are mine they are in my mouth. same goes with my Yorkies yes they are really a yorkie today but, they can be snake tomorrow. Some people just to get it most of us have a yorkie cause we love that breed and we just love them nothing more to it |
I have to agree, it kinda does me the same way. Although, I'm glad :aimeeyork ZheZhe is not a teacup, more like a teapot at 10 lbs., b/c she wouldn't stand a chance between me and my husband. She is always following us around, and being at our heels. And has gotten stepped on and bumped a couple of times, especially in the kitchen. Finally, she's learned and has found her a spot and watches. pwolfkill |

5 pounds is not huge and to be honest I love his weight, any smaller and I would be really afraid of him getting hurt. I think people are so use to seeing yorkies that are 2 pounds that when they see a yorkie that is within the standard of 4-7 pounds they think they are huge yorkies. It really gets on my nerves that people can be so rude and ignorant. |
snickers is 6.5-7lbs at 9months and... either ppl are calling her shark bait or they are saying she is "too big" for a yorkie now my (general) understanding is she is a "standard" sized yorkie which i thought was a good thing?? what do ppl consider a "big" yorkie? |
You know what I HATE....when people come up and say, Ohhh what a cute little dog....I have a BIG {whatever breed applies} at home that would eat you....{said in a baby voice} That gets me SOOOO pissed! It seems that just about every single time I take mine out, I hear that at least once! So yesterday it happened again as usual, and this woman said, Ohhhhh well I have a Huuuuge siberian husky at home thats 10 times your little size {again with the baby voice} so I just cut the lady right off (I was in a really pissy mood) and said, Yea, well his sister is a Great Dane, So I guess we got you beat, in the big category, huh? She just stopped, looked at me for a second and said, Uh, Yea....I would say so! :p End of conversation! LOL  |
that is soo rude. some people should just keep their mouths shut!!! |
i hope my yorkie does go more then 5lbs, can i see a picture of the one that is 5lbs? to see the difference of 5lbs |
Ref: What Ticks me Off Some people are just dense, God love 'em. My Bear happens to be a red leg Yorkie and has a very short coat. Some folks don't believe he's a "real" Yorkie. I smile and rely, "yes", while I'm thinking, "You wanna see his pedigree?" |

You should ask them "Is that your real hair?" or something like that.... :p :p Although Adrianna is fits the stereotypical "small purse size" Yorkie type, I HATE the "Oh, is she a teacup?" "Oh, is she a tiny?".   I just wanna say "Does she LOOK like something you drink out of?!?!!?" Or like someone above me mentioned "Yes, she's a tiny PITBULL!!!!" And it's WORSE when someone who HAS a yorkie asks me that!!! :thumbdown  :thumbdown |
i am reading these posts and getting fueled up myself... people seem to think they can just come up to Layla and pick her up... they don't even ask... to me she is equivilant to my child.. i dont' think anyone woudl want a stranger picking up their kid.. and i can relate to the person who gets the "rat" comment.. layla is always been called a rat and it kinda hurts my feelings.. she is almost 6 months and a little over 2.5 pounds.. but that doen'st give you the freedom of speech to make fun of her.. lately my family has been ALL OVER ME for holding layla.. they say they have never seen her walk.. well she just had surgery about a week ago and we are visiting from out of town.. a) i'm not going to just let her wander in a house where she could eat something off the floor and b) she is nervous in new places and wants to be in my lap... grrr. ok now that that is out.. i feel better.. great idea for a post thank you whoever had the idea! |
I don't even have mine yet, but I've already had people ask me "why do you want one of those, they look like little rats". That makes me sooooooooooooo mad. |
You all don't even want to know what irritates me! |

YES...I forgot all about that! My ex (who is actually my best friend now....go figured THAT! :p ) kept calling Adrianna a RAT and a SQUIRREL!!!  |
just pay no mind to people that shouldnt be hard? anyways that doesnt bother me if someone says my dog can have that dog for dinner etc i'll say probably right, who cares ya what would bother me is someone picking up my dog without permission this is the only thing |
