How many Yorkie's Run? I have seen so many babies on here that have gotten loose and ran.:( I was just curious as to how many here have Yorkies that don't run. Diesel for whatever reason won't run at all. We don't have a fenced in yard and he has never left our yard. He is always under my feet and when I take one step he takes 2. My grandmother's Yorkie will run if given the chance. She has to be very careful when going in and out of the house. She has a fenced in back yard that he can run around in. Every now and then he will sneak out if given the chance and he will bolt. I guess it just depends on the dog. I will say that this is the ONLY dog that I have ever had that wouldn't run. So do you have clinger or a free spirit?? lol Michelle |
I always get the free spirits, I guess!:D When Muffin was just months old (I don't remember now how many) I used to let her go with me outside her fenced yard to do things, but one day she decided it would be fun to take mommy on a wild goose chase! We were running figure 8's all over this development!:D I musta looked like a complete idiot, but I didn't care just as long as I got her back safely! Needless to say, that was the last of her freedom. There were a couple of times Kacee slipped out with me and we had a couple of very short escapades.:D Now, Kacee understands "stay".;) |
Kodi wont run at all:D A cat could stand right in front of him outside and as long as I am there he wont budge unless i give him the word. Daisy is another story. She gets her nose to the ground and shes gone. When we were camping this weekend I had her on a lead hooked right to me and Kodi was off his. he is always at my side. My golden reteriver is just like kodi. :animal-pa |
snickers does! she takes off the 2nd she can i know she thinks shes playing (or maybe just thinking whooo- hooo FREEDOM) but it scares me and i end up with everyone and thier mother chasing her |
Howie will run, but he has never bolted so bad that it made me run after him. I do get a little annoyed when we take him to my boyfriend's parent's house and they let him loose in the backyard. They have an older golden retriever who just calmly hangs out so they think Howie will do the same. They live very close to a street and it makes me nervous. Whenever I tell them to keep him on a leash attached to them or in his xpen outside it seems to fall on deaf ears. It's very frustrating. He's only 5.5 months and might decide to bolt one day. |
My parents' yorkie and my sister's yorkie will run, but my 2 and my grandparents' yorkie will not run. However, when my parents' yorkie, KoKo, runs, she always comes back. She runs down the street, checks things out, and comes right back. My 2 will run if they see someone that they think wants to play with them (which is they think is EVERYONE) or if they see another dog. But, otherwise they stay right around me! I guess I'm lucky! |
My Maddy was a BOLTER.. Gizmo is very laid back, very calm..... he will run around the yard but will not bolt out or try to access the street... |
Ginger will run, unless I turn and run the other way, lol. Seriously, she's only ever off lead in one place. My securely fenced back yard, I would never chance it anywhere else because I'm not sure what she'd do. Well, now that's not entirely true. Occasionally if we're walking on some of the local trails (no vehicles allowed) I'll drop her leash. She never gets more than about 50 feet ahead before she runs back to me or stops and watches me catch up. And she's always run right back when I call her. Don't think she wants to lose me. My shihtzu NEVER took off. Back when I had her, I never leashed her in our yard and we didn't have a fence. I could be out there for hours, weeding or whatever, and there she'd be, usually laying in the mulch in the shade of some plant... |
Mojo is normally being carried or on a harness, BUT around the hosue (we live in the country - which still isn't safe), he will "run free". He as honestly never "ran" off before, so I can't see what I would do or what he would do in that circumstance! He has followed our two outside dogs, but luckily, they are great guard dogs and have come back home (one in the lead and one behind Mojo - it is pretty funny) - but my heart swells knowing that they are there helping him. He has ran ahead of us on our walking trail (that goes around most of our 30 acres), but he will stop and wait or come back because he is tired of waiting for us slow-pokes! Sometimes, if we run after him, he LOVES it and thinks it is a game, so his tail sticks straight up and off he goes. He will (think) he is hiding behind a tree and pounce at us when we get close and off he runs again. On the occassion of us getting tired (which is often - wish I had his energy), we have to tell him to come and then to come NOW before he finally comes. - He still wants to play, ya know?! I would be afraid to let him off leash in a public, open spot though! And of course, I don't know what he would do if he got out of the car or got loose while on vacation somewhere. The times we have had to stop to eat with him, it was either a fast food drive thru or one of us going in to order and the other staying in the car. It is funny and neat to see how they are all different. I think if given the chance, Mojo would be a clinger, but then, if the mood is right, I think he would dash. I don't know though! I think he would be a follower - you know, if one dog takes off, so would he - just because he would have to see what is going on or be with the "group" - oh now! I'm going to have to let him know that it is okay not to "run" with the group!!! and do everything the others do! hee,hee |
Chachi will run like the wind but Jewels will stay right with me. I take her harness off her and she will walk right with you never taking off. |
You are lucky that your baby does not BOLT mine do . I have a very large yard and a area fence in but, when they get the chance they bolt right for the road,,, it scares me to death!!! we are thinkng of get one of those elec. fences but i am not sure about it on small dogs???? |
I've got a runner!!! Otis is 2 years old. He's gotten out a few times. Once through a gap in the fence (now fixed with chix wire) and twice because people held doors open too long. (while taking their shoes off, or talking to someone outside) My boy TAKES OFF. He hits high gear and never looks back. He's off to hunt and have adventures. Thankfully, I have never lost sight of him and after much exasperation always tricked him into coming back. Once, after chasing him forever, I was exhausted, and he had his butt in the air and was having a great time. Little did he know how close we were to a highway. He thought we were playing. Finally, I just turned away from him and started walking fast. He followed right behind me and I was able to catch him. I'm hoping it gets better as he gets older. Can anyone confirm or deny that? I still have to go out and get him when it's time to come in. He used to run from me then too, but now he lets me pick him up and bring him in. We never really mastered the "come" command. Please someone tell me it gets better as he gets older. I'm a nervous wreck when people come in and out of my front door. |
It really does get better when they get older.:D |
I am sure Buddy would take off like the wind. |
Chico will run if he gets the chance. The first time he got out was when my husband opened the garage door and didn't know I was in there with Chico. He ran out so fast----- don't know how I thought of it, but I called out "Chico-where's your leash?" He stopped in his tracks and ran back to get it!! But I don't think he'll ever fall for that again! |
