This should be a very good reason NO ONE should purchase puppy store puppies. I know we want to save them but we are only keeping them in business.

OKLAHOMA COUNTY PUPPY MILL CLOSED DOWN-DESCRIBED AS A, “HOUSE OF HORRORS”

On July 8, 2006, Safe Haven Humane Society of Midwest City, and Homeward Bound Humane Society of Durant, removed 130 dogs and puppies from an Oklahoma County residence. Owner Betty Foster, in her late 70s, produced puppies at the location for over 30 years.

Small breeds of dogs and their puppies were removed from filthy conditions; water was black, most of the food was moldy, and over 40 carcasses were found in bags on the property. A freshly dead puppy was being consumed by a rat.

‘Puppy mills,’ are a dirty secret throughout Oklahoma, and a secret that is growing. As this filthy industry is regulated in other states, they are expanding here.

Few people know where their pet store dog came from and fewer know where their stolen pet may wind up. Puppy mills are a mountain of shame. When dogs no longer, ‘produce a crop,’ they are discarded in the growing number of dog auctions, or worse.

While the dogs were being removed on Saturday, according to Foster’s granddaughter’s comments, she herself performed caesarian deliveries by, in her own words, “splitting them open.”

Dogs with their midlines sutured together with fishing line were removed from the property. One gray Poodle that had been, ‘split open,’ was found in the trashcan with her intestines out. The birthing area had rolls of fishing line strewn on the floor.

Foster had earlier tried to get rescue leagues to take senior dogs that no longer produced puppies, but on Saturday the dogs she tried to release earlier were gone; rat poison was photographed in many bowls.

The horrors continued: Upon returning to Durant with the dogs, Homeward Bound Shelter Manager Stacy George started the task of cleaning and bathing the dogs. She removed scores of ticks from the area around the eyes of one small Lhasa Apso, however, instead of getting a happy glance, the young dogs’ eyes were gone.

Some dogs have large tumors on their midlines. A terrier had a dead mouse entwined in its’ fur.

Some will have to have surgery from being, “split open,” in butcher style caesarian surgeries.

Many of the dogs removed from Foster’s residence wear tags from recently being sold through auctions; some may be stolen pets. A lack of serious regulation of dog auctions permits stolen pets to go right into the, ‘puppy mill,’ industry.

It is time for Oklahomans to put our foot down on the misery.

· We demand changes in Oklahoma laws to include dog dealer regulations.

Thats horrible that lady should go to jail for a long time. How those poor puppies and dogs had to live was awful

The good thing in all that is they shut down that puppy mill. How horrible!!

This is just horrible, how can they allow this ???Makes my Stomach turn ! Anybody working for them ought to be skinned alive !!!

That is worse than any conditions I ever imagined. I thought just eing caged and living in filth was horrible. These conditions are beyond my imagination.

But how could someone not have known about this. neighbors, friends, family, buyers, anyone.

OMG. I almost got sick reading that - those poor poor poor dogs. NO HUMAN should EVER Get away with that kind of coldblooded abuse of innocent animals - I hope she ROTS IN JAIL ! That is one woman that's just using up AIR by breathing !:mad: :mad: :mad:

My God - those dogs suffered horribly - and for what ? MONEY !

This is the worst most unspeakable act of animal abuse/neglect/tortue I have EVER read about! It sounds like they have more than enough evidence to lock that woman/man whoever the butcher -er- owner was! I cannot believe that there are people so cruel out there!
My heart just breaks thinking about those poor babies who were butchered during c-sections! My god how they must have suffered!

That disqusted me!!!! How awful can a person be to put such sweet little dogs at harm... that really bothers me bad. How sad, how awfully upsetting... oh im going to linger on this one for a few days... i hate stories like that! My babies are my life, just like a human baby and to hear things like that makes me want to hug and hold mine non stop!

This is very nasty and trifiling. How could someone treat any living being this way. Just plain horrible.:mad: :thumbdown

How sick...that made me sick to my stomach. What an old BEEP (can we swear on here?) Words can't describe how horrible this lady is. What was her point of being put on this earth? Them poor dogs...I hope they all find loving homes and recieve the right attention that they need. As for that lady, I hope she sits in a cell for the remainder of her days and is forced to live in her own filth and feces. I hope they treat her the same as she did those poor babies. :(

I have never read anything as bad as this mill...it is heartbreaking.

That's makes me SICK! AND it makes me sooo mad, how in the hell could she do something like that? Does she not have a heart or mind.Oh my what those poor pups had to go thru. I hope she go to jail AND IS TREATED THE SAME WAY SHE DID THOSE LITTLE ONES. THE WITCH.

I can't bear this. We have got to do something. I don't know how, I don't know what but in the US at least we should be able to stop this. I've not taken it seriously enough in the past. I am never buying another thing from a pet store that sells animals. I will never buy an animal that I cannot inspect the living conditions from which it is coming. Are there other things that I cannot think of right now that we can do? We have got to take a stand.

I nearly threw up reading that! I knew puppy mills were filthy and terrible living conditions, but this is just unreal that anyone could treat innocent dogs like that. I hope she rots in jail, but do you think she really will? It seems so much that people get away with abuse of animals. Thank goodness those poor dogs have been rescued!

My knowledge (such as it is) of mills and backyard breeders is more from the guinea pig world than the dog world---and I have seen and heard some HORRIFIC cases. This is why I just have a knee-jerk reaction when I hear about people "saving" a puppy from a pet store. It just sickens me to think about ENABLING and lining the pockets of these kinds of breeders. (and I don't even think they deserve the name "breeder")

Oh my Gosh. This story is awful and it makes my heart hurt for the poor dogs. I will never understand people and their greed along with their evil-ness towards living things. I have said a prayer for those poor dogs and for justice to be served!! I believe that in the end all bad people who have done evil things will have to answer for them and punishment will be served! I've read so many horror stories lately about mills that I am almost afraid to click on anything pertaining because it bothers me so bad.

This is so sad and disgusting, simply. :( I hope that this article will give light to those who aren't dog owners or aren't aware of puppy mills and abuse. This is serious and should be known by everyone, even if someone isn't interested in dogs. Abuse is terrible, in ANY form. The fact that they are dogs shouldn't make a difference. It's just as bad, to think of the aweful conditions these poor innocent animals have to live in.

It's incredibly depressing. The poor dogs are innocent.

That had to be the most horrible story I have read yet on Puppymills. This is why they need to be shut down! Those poor poor animals! Makes me SICK!

I encourage everyone to copy this and forward it to everyone you know! this is just aweful and something has to be done!! we CAN make a difference if everyone here pulls together!! so please please please pass this along in a email to everyone!!! I did!!!!

This article motivated me! Since I won't have much to do w/ my spare time (which is going to be alot for who knows how long) I am applying to volunteer at local animal shelters. It's the least I can do. I started applying today at work, so hopefully I'll find something soon.
