| She got away from me OK, so Friday was the WORST day ever. My parents were here visiting & they got here before I got home from work. While they were here, the maintenance man for my apt. knocked on the door. Dad thought Mom had picked Sadie up, but she had not gottne her yet. So when Dad opened the door, she took off. Dad ran off after her (or rather, hobbled as fast as he could....he's got a broken toe) and yelled at her. SHe actually stopped & just put her head down & let him pick her up. THEN.... Friday night I was walking her & we stopped to talk/play with a friend of hers. They were running around & playing & stuff and somehow one of the hooks to Sadie's harness came out of the leash. THen the buckle to the harness came undone (I think she chewed on it & it didn't stay shut good). Sadie stepped out of her harness & off she went. I was so scared because she runs from me. She ran around to the front of the building where there are a lot of cars & we are near the street. I was pretty calm, but kept calling her & trying different tactics to get her to come to me. After a couple of minutes, she just ignored me, and I was able to sneak up behind her & snatch her up. It was then that my heart started racing. I was so scared!!!!

| Well, you've had your scares for the week, haven't you? Whew! You were calm at the time, because you had to be to catch her. It's afterward that we fall apart! I'm so glad your little cutie is safe.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm glad you caught up to the little sneak! That happens to me more often than I care to admit. I never know how to address them once I catch up to them. I don't want to scold them because I fear that next time they'll keep running. But I have a hard time saying "good dog" after they gave me the scare of my life.

| I know. Like you, I wasn't sure whether to scold or kiss her. I wasn't sure how to try to get her. If only she didn't run from me. We're working on that. But in that situation, I think she'd always run.

| This would be a great topic for a trainer. How do you get them to come to you in this kind of situation where they think you are playing????? I dropped Sissy's leash one day when we were in the park. Thank God my husband runs fast and was able to run wide and get in front of her. Always a scary situation and I'd love to know how to better handle it.

| Tinka has always come when I call her and stays right by me - until lately. She's getting a bit of the wanderer syndrome. So, this morning I enrolled her in basic obedience which will start on Thursday. I have had dogs in the past and taken them to the same classes and it worked wonders! Only one of my dogs didn't go and she runs away every chance she can get. I'm glad you got your pup - it is scary when they run like that and they are so darn fast that you can't catch them! omega |

| What is the deal with that? Tiffany does that too?! She runs as soon as I get close enough to pick her up. (only outside) and if I yell or talk in a stern voice she could care less. It drives me crazy! Im glad your baby is ok!

| Sp glad Sadie is ok, they can be little brats. Rudy is my runner, it scares me to death when he would get out. It's funny when I went to the dog park he wouldn't leave my site, I think he thought I was going to trade him in for another dog. lol My other three will stay right by you, but not Rudy. He is my free spirit yorkie.

| Dolce has run away from me a few times, and I've been able to catch her by calling her name and running in the opposite direction. She'll turn around and chase me, thinking it's a fun game. Then I just let her catch up to me and I grab her. |
