Please Help!!!! I need help on what to do. I bought a yorkie puppy born on 5-27-06 who weighed in at 1.9 pounds. He was shipped to me from Texas from yourpup.com. When I picked the puppy up he was lively and very energetic. When we got him home to rest he started acting a little strange, seeming out of sorts. I assumed he needed food and rest, so thats what I gave him. Around 9 or 10 he started making yelping noises, my boyfriend and I got up to help him and he was salivating everywhere and shaking as if he was having a seizure. I was very very concerned and my boyfriend and I watched him all night. That morning I brought the pup to an emergency pet clinic. They ran a bunch of tests, found out his blood sugar was down very low, got an IV in him and got him cleaned up and told me to stop by the next morning at 7 to pick him up. I called that night to see how he was doing and they said that he was doing much better, that he was eating and being a little puppy again. When I went to pick him up he was doing great. They said he was hypoglycemic, probably from the plane ride, but he would be fine soon. He was eating every 3 hours like he was supposed to and even was okay enough to walk around the bathroom a bit. At 1 o'clock he took a nap and when I returned in the bathroom at 130 he was covered, completely soaking in saliva and having little seizures. I was crying, not knowing that to do. I called the breeder in hopes for him to help me and he said that I shouldn't bring him to a vet because a vet is just trying to get my money. I told him that just before he was doing great though, even walking around the bathroom and he just said "A GOOD parent wouldn't let a sick child walk around the house to play, you keep them in a small space and monitor them." I was extremely offended, but kept my mouth shut. He had 3 or 4 more seizure while on the phone with the breeder so I took matters into my own hands and brought the puppy to the vet. They took his temp, got him hooked to IVs to get sugar in him. The vet came out and said that his heart had stopped and so had his breathing and asked if I would like them to continue to try and revitalize him. I said no because the puppy was in pain and I couldn't bare to see it anymore. The doctor came out to tell us that the puppy had pneumonia and blood had filled his lungs. :( Now here is where I need help. I really think it unfair for the breeder to deny me a refund, seeing that I didn\'t do anything to harm this little puppy, I did everything in my power to keep him alive and I only had him for two days, which seems a little sketchy to me. The breeders "agreement/contract" says that only if the condition were congenital will the puppy be replaced with a new one, but the buyer has to sent 350 for the puppy to be shipped. But I don\'t want another puppy from him, I want a refund because I only had the dog for two days and that to me is reason enough to give the money back, beyond any congenital diseases. |
Question.... How was the pnuemonia overlooked the first visit.......with the vet???? |
I am so very sorry that you have had this horrid experience. What should have been the happiest kind of experience turned into a horrible nightmare! :( Did your vet perform a necropsy? The animal version of an autopsy? If it is possible that there was, in fact, a congenital defect, the breeder will require documentation. Sounds like you were the victim of a very unreputable and dishonest breeder. |

I am so sorry for your loss. I have no idea of the financial recourses but wonder if you would mind telling us the name of the breeder? I live in Texas and would like to know where not to go. If you would prefer not to post it and would like to PM me, I would appreciate it. In my very uninformed opinion, the puppy was too small and too young to be shipped. :big_hug: Again, I am sorry that you had to go through this. |
How sad for you and that puppy. Have you tried having your vet write or call the breeder regarding their findings? I hope you can get a healthy baby next time. |
I\'m SO sorry you lost your puppy :( You bought that puppy from Jeff Dane who is known for selling small dogs AND with health problems. You can do a search here or on the net - just type in Jeff Dane - and you\'ll see you aren\'t alone. I\'m sorry you went thru this but he is NOT a reputable breeder. While very small young puppies can have seizures - he should have warned you about this and you should have gone to the vet asap - Whatever he said to you was total BS. He should have told you to get to the vet right away. Which again - shows how much he doesn\'t care one bit about his puppies  Your puppy sounds like he was too small to be shipped and after hearing where you purchased him from - I don\'t doubt that JERK even thought about his size and the trauma of shipping either. I would for sure be upset about all this - but you probably won\'t get anything back from him. Once he gets your money ...he\'s done with you. I\'m just sorry for that poor puppy. ps....IF You do get another puppy - Have Nutrical on hand and give them a little bit 2-3 times a day....( and please try to find a good breeder - that man is bad news. |
puppy I am so sorry to hear about your puppy...you will never get a penny back from Jeff Dane, once the pup is out of his kennel, it is your problem....plus, the weather is hot and humid, no puppy should be shipped. |
i\'m so sorry about your pup. that poor baby suffered because of that horrible horrible man. you were right to go to the vet the first and the second time. i\'m sorry your puppy buying experience has been so bad. :( i hope you can get your money back from him. i\'d take him to court if it was worth it |
He had to know that this puppy was sick when he shipped it. I\'m so sorry that you had this horrible experience.:( |
awww I am so sorry about your puppy :(:( |

Grrrr!! Jeff and Steve Dane!!! Awwww, I am SO very sorry to hear that this has happened to you. This is just so very sad. I believe that Steve Dane is just as bad as Jeff Dane...they are brothers in the business! Sick, sick, sick. Did he ever tell you about Yorkies and Hypoglycemia, and what to do if their blood sugar dropped? He SHOULD have told you to have a tube of Nutri-Cal on hand at all times. I give Stedman some at night before bed, and any time we have to leave him during the day. Unfortunately, I agree with Villette regarding the fact that I don\'t think you will be getting your money back :( However, I would HOUND HIS @$$ non stop and MAYBE you will get somewhere with him.....that is VERY "iffy" though. Keep trying and don\'t give up. Threaten him and tell him that you are going to bad mouth him to everyone you know, and all over the internet...and let him know that you WILL tell ANYONE and EVERYONE you know about just what kind of so called "breeder" he is!! Also tell him that you are going to report him to the BBB. If you signed the contract however, there isn\'t much you can do...but maybe if you threaten him enough he will give you SOMETHING back??? Don\'t get your hopes up though :( Once again, I am soooo very sorry that this has happened to you. When I was first looking for a Yorkie, I browsed Jeff and Steve\'s site almost DAILY, that is until I did my research and found out nothing but horrible things about the two of them. It just kills me to know that there are puppies at both of their homes right now who are probably sick and aren\'t being cared for properly. Although Jeff and Steve aren\'t the only ones in the world who house these poor little puppies...they are everywhere :( God Bless you and the poor little baby that you lost :( I hope that if you do decide to get another baby, you have much better luck the next time around. P.S.- Ask for breeder references! Ask others in your area...search the internet for lots of info, and even ask your vet if he knows of any good breeders near or around you. IMO, it is ALWAYS much better to go and pick up your puppy so that you can see where he/she is raised, and hopefully see the mom and dad as well. Whatever you do, good luck!! |
