| Yeah, I've read that too. They are a color anomally, just like the Parti and the red/blond ones. I have seen a few of them here on YT and they are adorable. |

| I found this on the YTCA site: An Important Note About Color in Yorkshire Terriers . The most distinctive characteristic of an adult Yorkshire Terrier is its long blue and tan silk coat. A puppy is born black and tan, but the only recognized colors for adults when registering with AKC are blue and gold, blue and tan, black and gold, or black and tan. . The AKC Breed Standard and YTCA Code of Ethics do not recognize any other color dogs than noted above. This includes all gold, born blue, liver (also known as red or chocolate), and parti-colors. One of the reasons for avoiding breeding "off-colored" Yorkies is because it could be a genetic defect that may affect the dog's health. Some health problems can include, but aren't limited to, severe skin problems, allergies, total hair loss and in some cases long-term illness and/or death. . A responsible breeder will not intentionally breed for undesirable traits. On very rare occasions, a breeder will have a puppy born with a color anomaly. That puppy should undergo careful health screenings before being placed in a spay/neuter (non-breeding) home. A breeder should certainly never promote these deviations as being desirable or rare. . http://www.ytca.org/faq.html

| The girls and I met a beautiful yorkie called Rocky last weekend near Atlantic City at a soccer tournament. He appeared to be a chocolate yorkie. Boy was he beautiful. It was like he had fudge swirling through his coat. Ruby was quiet smitten with him. |

| I don't think there is any question as to if an 'off color' Yorkie is standard--it's not. However, I don't neccessarily think that it's completely accurate to assume that ALL off colored Yorkies have health issues. There IS a difference between a blue born and a chocolate/blonde/parti. Also, I think it is ridiculous to automatically assume that because a Yorkie is an off color, it is therefore not purebred. |

I love chocolates, and if they are healthy otherwise and don't carry any health genetic diseases, what is wrong with a chocolate yorkie?? If the only thing they can find wrong is the color pigment, which as long as they are healthy and don't carry life threatening diseases then what's wrong with chocolates????

| I think they are so pretty. However, I think it's a little unfair (not to mention stupid) for breeders to charge more for them just because of their coat color when its actually (my standard terms) considered a bad thing.

| I just had a discussion today about chocolates. That's why I wanted to know the opinions here. I think they are beautiful and like what was said above, if there isn't anything wrong with them healthwise, then I don't see why they are such a problem. I wouldn't breed for a chocolate, but if one of my girls had one, there's no way I could put it down just because it was the "wrong" color. It is my understanding that you can now register the parties. Am I wrong?
