My Vet Told Me No Toys... I need help you guys. My vet told me no toys yet unless they are really tiny and no chew toy because they are too hard but my puppy is trying to chew on everything! Is he teething already at 6 weeks? I mean, he's biting my fingers, toes, kennel bars, shoe strings, furniture, the rug, and anything else he can get his paws on. Is it okay for me to give him pig ears or toys to chew on? Some of the things he's trying to chew on around the house are much harder than his chew toys or pig ears (which one breeder suggested to me). HELP!!! |
That's crazy. I hope he gave you a good explaination. And why tiny toys? They could be swallowed. He's going to chew anyway, so why not provide him with safe alternatives to your walls and furniture and carpet. I use rolled rawhide, and the flat rawhide chips. Throw them away when they get small enough to swallow. Pig ears should be good too. |
cow hooves, bully sticks, puppy kongs (with a dab of peanut butter inside) are all good chew toys and needed so you can teach the difference between 'good to chew on' and 'bad to chew on'. Beware toys with small parts that can be chewed off, squeekers, rawhides, greenies. |
why on earth did your vet say that? your pup could choke on tiny toys. |
your baby can chew on toys what is your vet thinking? he is very young make sure you have nutrical on hand! |
Oh and i have to add cause you posted on another thread about your vet you deff need a new vet she has no idea what she is talking about i would never take your baby back there!!!! |
Thanks guys! I already made an appointment to see another vet. I had a feeling, although she was really nice, that what she was saying wasn't quite right. |

I tend to give my puppies human baby toys, they work great. If you don't give your pup toys now, how is he to learn what is his to chew and what isn't. He is very young right now...definetly have that Nutrical on hand as someone else mentioned. |

The first thing I would do is to fire my vet and hire a new one. I don't feed Greenies anymore, or pigs ears, but I do give my crowd BullySticks and boy do they love those things. I can't think of a better use for an old used up ... well....er..... you guys know :eyetearss bull part. Hard rubber toys are GREAT, just be sure to examine them frequently for wear and tear. Chizziewink goes through one of those hard rubber balls with the bells inside about every three weeks. |

WHATTTTTT ???? I think I would be getting a second opinion on that one! They have soft puppy chew toys, my Lillie has some, one is a pasifire and the other is a little bottle chew toy. And she also chews on Bully Stix, I just dont let her chew on them when she is in her expen or when I'm not watching her. I think your vets crazy lol |
