How do boy Yorkies use a piddle pad? I was posting about piddle pads and wondered how boys do it, especially if they lift their leg? |
Well mine started out using the pee pads and he squatted. He now goes outside and still squats, but kinda lifts his leg (but not really). I had him neutered at 6 months and he didn't ever mark and I have only seen him left his leg really high a couple times when we are out walking. But in his normal bathroom area, he just squats. I think most males squat at an early age, don't they?? |
I have wondered about the same thing?? How do they use potty pads when all grown up? |
1 Attachment(s) My boy used them the same way my girl did..... (LOL) ... |
HAHA Julz you are so funny :) Simon started lifting his leg about 6 months ago and I panicked! He has been potty trained since I got him but what I found was that he still squats on the pad or he may lift his leg a little but doesn't miss. Outside he will hike his leg up so high he has fallen over a couple times :) |
Seriously, someone did mention wrapping a pee pad around a 2 liter pop bottle full of water (for weight) and placing a pee pad under it. The dog should pee on the bottle once he starts to lift his leg. However, they tend to squat until they are over 6 months old and longer (just generalization). |
strangly enough, Scout squats on the pee pad and lifts his leg outside. Of course, it's aways by a tree or bush;) |
A friend of mine tapes a pee pad around a big coffee can and puts that on top of another pee pad. |

Sorry, don't have an answer to your question since I have a babygirl, but the reason I got a babygirl was because I was afraid a boy would lift his leg. Now that I have read this thread, I am thinking, perhaps that was a silly and uneducated reason. Oh well, I love Mia. |
Scampers is 7 months old and still squats on the pee pad and outside. He has not lifted his leg once...yet. |
I don't know myself, but I've read that if you have them neutered at a very young age, like 3 months, then they shouldn't lift their leg. |
Yoda and Winky have always squatted when using a pee pad. :) |
aww those pics are so sweet! I couldn't even use a pee pad Peeka and Boo shred them so they are outside training but doing great they do have some accidents (mainly when i'm not paying attention) ! |
Huh... Learned something new today... I thought once boys started to lift their leg they do it every time! Guess not! It's neat that they make the adjustment depending on where they are relieving themselves. |
chester just lifts his leg and goes, I have several I put down, he will sometimes make a mess, not very often |
Google mostly stands on the outside edge of the pad, lifts his leg and aims inwards--so most of the time he hits dead-center. If he's in a hurry or sleepy he might not stand on the outward edge, and wind up peeing all over the place...around the pad. As long as the mistakes are next to the pad like that and not all over the house, I'll consider him pad-trained! |
Gus is 2 and still squats when he pee's. He was trained on pads but after all his shots were given he went outside to do his biz. Just the other day my brother in law was laughing at my poor Gus because he squats. I did have him fixed when he was 6 months but it never did put a stop to him marking. He only does it outside and it's the only time he lifts his leg. |
Max is pad trained, and used to squat, too. LOL I'll never forget the 1st day I saw him lift his leg, I was so proud! We bought him a little red fire hydrant, that we keep in the center of his pad. That actually STOPPED his leg lifting inside... |

That is just too funny!! Diesel started off squatting. At times he still does. I call it a fly by squatting. He mainly squats now only when he is marking tall grass while walking. He LOVES to mark all of our bushes. Just like Simon... Diesel has almost fallen over a few times because he lifts his legs so high! They are just to cute! :D Diesel hasn't been fixed so I am sure that is the reason he lifts his leg now. I never know with TJ. I use litter boxes with pee pads (2 boxes side by side). Sometimes TJ will go ALL the way in the box and squat or lift his leg high or low. Other times, TJ put his 2 front legs in the box and lifts his legs so the pee either drips inside the box or outside the box. And then there are time that he put 2 feet in one box and the back feet in the other box, then he lifts his leg and pees down the middle of the 2 boxes. When we go for walks outside he does mark certain stuff (it is very rare that he does potty outside, too distracted). TJ was nuetered at 7 months. I have to put wee wee all rigged up around and under the litter boxes, b/c I was constantly cleaning up pee. TJ is such a littler bugger. I like the little fire hydrant (sp?) idea, maybe I should try to find one and maybe he will go into the box more often. I don't really care if he squats or lifts his leg, I just want him to go ALL the way into the box and pee! |
pee pad thingy Hi y'all! I can't remember the name of the thing that's sold that you can put a pee pad in and it has a metal grate that goes over it (so it won't get shredded). Anyone know what it is? |
my inlaws bought some of that sticky velcro and put some on a door and sticks the pad to it!! works great for them |
So far Poli is still squatting.... |
