She just ate 3 of the little gerber meat sticks. Everything else she turns her nose up to. Thanks for all the help. I have a three year old yorkie but this kind of thing never happened to us before. I'm actually thinking we let her play to hard. She growls and runs & acts like she is a German Shepard. We just think it is so cute. Maybe I shouldn't let her be so perky and playful. |
get anything down here to eat and often 4-5 meals a day if you have handy canned quality chicken noddle soup drain off the liquid and mash up the noddles and chicken into her dry puppy food (or all by itself) anything to make her eat. For peace of mind during the night online order or perhaps your local pet store "nutridrops" theyre far longer lasting than nutrical up to 6-8 hours. you little one is not consuming her food give her cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, lean hamburger, rice chicken mashed and baby food without pure gravy and or baby rice ceral so she will lick it. Cesars puppy works well with difficult eaters. She is far too young and tiny to be taken from her mom, you should really take her back to the breeder and request she keep her until she is at least 12weeks old or two pounds, for her sake and your peace of mind. Just make sure she continues to eat and drink regularly. Little ones should be eating every 3 hours or so. Leaving dry food out for her all the time is great if she eats it. Keep using the NutriCal, too. Good thing you knew what to do and acted so quickly. I'm not trying to scare you, but a really young pup can die quickly with hypoglycemia. Many people add karo syrup to their water just to keep the blood sugar up. Keep an eye on her and keep us posted. |

Okay, I did put Karo in her water. I do know they can die from this and that's why I was so scared. I really thought she was gonna die. I will continue with the Nutri Cal & get her to eat every 2 hours. Thanks for all the great advise. |
You could give her chicken or turkey baby food in a syringe (or yogurt)... until you feel she is eating her usual food on a regular basis. I did this with my Jasmine when I first got her.... (more for me, than her)... just so I knew she ate each day. Glad all turned out OK. :) |
Shylah worried the heck out of me when we first got her around a month or so ago. She wouldn't eat either. We never did go through hypoglycemia, but she lost weight from 1.9 to 1.7. I fed her cottage cheese with her food, then she got sick of that, we tried ceasers too. I felt like I was constantly pushing food down her mouth. My vet said they should eat about the amount of what their 2 front paws are put together. She finally weighed in at 2.0 lbs at 15 weeks. She is just a tiny thing with a bunch of energy! So sorry you had to go through that, but at least you learned something and she is alright! Good luck with your new little one? |
