:mad: I'm so annoyed...the other day me and Poopy was shopping at a mall. he was sitting in his stroller getting tones of oohs and aww...:cool:

some lady and her kids were petting poopy when the lady asked "how old is he"?

5 or so months i told her...

she said, "OH MY GOSH, HE'S SO BIG FOR FIVE MONTHS. IS HE A PUREBREAD"? :eek:

i told her yes, but she kept on insisting that he was not...because "SHE" has a yorkie and she "KNOWS" they should be around 5 pounds full grown. i told her the standard yorkie could weigh up to 7 pounds and it's not uncommon for yorkies to even be bigger.

(i don't care if someone says he's a big yorkie, but to keep insisting that he's not a purebread and to keep it up until i had enough and had to leave is annoying. i told her i had all the paperworks, he's AKA certified and everything, but she still insisted that he's not a purebread.

he was 2 pounds at 2 1/2 months but from then kept growing fast and now he weighs about 7pounds. my veternarian said some dogs just have their growth spurts early and most likely the vet said poopy would weigh around 7.5-8.5 pounds full grown. to me he may not be a tiny yorkie or even a 5 pound yorkie, but he's a definite purebreed and PROUD OF IT...! he's still just as cute, precious, and full of energy as any other puppy. :animal36

That's exactly the kind of thing that used to drive me insane. Ginger's not only big, (but check out her avatar), her ears never stood up. (and yes, I taped). Thanks to YT, now I just smile and say she's a teapot yorkie. :) AT that point they either decide I'm a complete idiot and give up, or realize they may be stepping on toes. Honestly though, once I stopped getting defensive about her "yorkiehood", it quit bothering me and oddly, people seemed to stop being so persistent.

Hang in there. There's a lot o misinformation out there and an astounding number of "experts" who love to give their two cents.

i love that..."teapot" that's so funny... i might have to borrow that one... and your lil one's ear is adorable. i think they are cute either way... up or down.

I wonder if those people say the same thing to people who have large skin babies. "UH, Excuse me mam, but is your baby purebred or half alien". LOL :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears

I don't know why people do that either. I've heard a lot of people say that about other peoples dogs. And that annoys me when people do that. If they knew what the heck they were talking about they would educate themselves enough to know at least the basic standard of the breed of dog that they have. most of them have small dog just because it fashionable.

Poopy's Mommy don't worry about it, I find that most people like that all that they know is that they have a small dog and that's it.

Next time just ask so stupid people if you could see their degree!!

You could always tell them they don't know much about their own breed not to know anything about their sizes.

I know exactly how you feel. I took tucker to the mall, and was carrying him around. All of a sudden this stuck up, snob of a women, walks up with her daughter, and says "I see you have a teacup Maltese" while she dangled her bony finger in my Tuckers face. I politely informed her, he was not a Maltese or a teacup (he was 11 weeks and 1 pound 11 ounces at the time), and that there was no such thing as a teacup anything. She then started arguing with me about how he was obviously a teacup maltese, and I didn't know what kind of dog I bought. I eventually got heated:mad: and told her "If he were a maltese his coat wouldn't be black and tan, it would be white or so variation of white, and get your finger out my puppies face!:mad: ". Some people have a lot of nerve, but not a lot of brains:thumbdown

you should of poined at one of her kids and asked if it was a boy or a girl lol:D all of my yorkies are big annie cos shes fat but the others are all big, and funny ive never had anyone in the uk ask if they were pure or not i wonder if there are more big yorkies here than in the usa so we are more use to them?

Well she wouldn't want to see my Tiffanie !! And I love her to death! She is 10 lbs!!!! She is perfect even tho she is a big Yorkee!!! And the tips of her ears flops so maybe she's not a Yorkee in others eyes but I know she is!!! Don't let her get to U she's just jealous for she don't have a big baby like ours!! They are all loveable no matter their size!! :animal36

I know what you mean! When Brandy was only 2 lbs at 4 months I took her to Petsmart and some lady stopped to pet her. Then she said "Wow, isn't she BIG to be a YORKIE???" I was So SHOCKED! I mean, how SMALL do PEOPLE want these dogs to be!!!?? How come suddenly yorkies are SUPPOSED to be super teeny tiny and if they're not super tiny then they're not yorkies? Brandy only grew up to be 6lbs and I wouldn't want her any smaller. To me she's absolutely perfect in every way.

i had a similiar experience in an upscale philadelphia pet boutique. the sales lady said is that a yorkie? he's huge! i just smiled ... put down my shopping basket and left. i was insulted. he's about 5.5 -6lbs and is obviously a yorkie. i would not patronize a store where they discriminate. even if it's dog size discrimination. snotty people suck.

i just hated when ppl argue or put your lil baby down in some way. i hate it...another time, a lady stop to pet poopy and asked what his name was...i told her poopy and she started telling how that was such a bad name and that i'm insulting him. i happen to like that name...we named him poopy cuz that's the only name me and husband could agree on. and i treasure my poopy boy so much that my husband thinks i treat him better. it's none of her business what i call my lil one. i think it's cute and thats all that matters. some ppl.

I love that name! Baby's name is Baby...but I barely call her that. I call her Poo Poos and so does my family! :D

That's just wrong when people criticize a name. A name is something permanent, it's over and done with. If they don't like something, they shouldn't say anything. Saying a name is pretty, okay fine...that's nice. Not saying anything...fine!!! But saying something negative, that's a no-no in my book.

Kinda change of subject, but saying that about a name is like telling someone they shouldn't have gotten "that" tattoo that they just got permanently needled into their body. Hello!!!!! Shut up!!!! :mad: :thumbdown

That just drives me insane as well. I have people coming up to me all the time and telling me my male is so big for a yorkie that he must be a silky. I'm always stunned that someone can even approach me and tell me what breed my dog is. I know what breed he is. I have papers that shows he is 100% yorkie. The kennel where I got him from just didnt care about the puppies and I seen him in there and I had to rescue him. He is 11 lbs and full of love.

Some people are just ignorant! I have been going through the same thing
for 2yrs. Buddy is 13.7lbs and pure Yorkie. I am tired of defending him against all the dumb people I meet up with. The way some breeders are
breeding them, smaller and smaller a 5-7lb Yorkie will be large!:mad: Our teapots will be giants.:eek:

Maybe all of us with Yorkies over 3 pounds (since that's what size all the "smart" people think they should be) should get them tshirts that say, "Yes I'm a Yorkie" or "No Half-Breed Here" or "Full-Blooded" or something like that

I can't believe the nerve of people! I get that, oh I want a yorkie but I want a teacup, comment. Pita weighs 4 pounds! How much smaller do they really want them? I know they come tinier but some people have no clue!!

I quit trying to educate the stupid public on yorkies, I just smile stupidly and hope they leave before Pita bites them because they put their hands and face right into her face without asking me!
