Tiger is having surgery - need advise My darling Tiger has been scheduled for neutering this thursday. Annika is getting older and I don't want "any accidents" to happen. She is much tinier than Tiger and I cannot risk it. I will take him in at 8:30am and will be picking him up the following day at 4:30pm. Although I know this is such a common procedure for dogs, I cannot help but still worry so much :( . Please say a short prayer for my baby when you get a moment. I know that when he comes home he needs to have lots of rest and recovery time and refrain from being too playful. Since I have Annika, do you guys have any suggestions on a temporary set-up to ensure they don't rough play, as they often do  . Being that it is a weekend, I have 2 days to take care of him but would love suggestions esspecially when I go back to work on Monday. |
You have Buddy's and my prayer for Tiger. He will be fine but it is so scary to have to put your baby under. Can you keep them seperated for a day or two since it is the weekend and just let him sleep with you at night? They actually heal very fast however I would be careful the two don't rough house it for a couple of days. Good luck and keep YT posted on his recovery.:aimeeyork |
Tiger will be in my prayers tonight. :) |
Awww Coco and I will send good thoughts and Prayers Tiger's way. Don't worry it will be over before you and Tiger know it. He will be up and playing within hours of coming home. I would highly recommend that you get an infant onesie for him so he doesn't try to lick or bite the stitches (plus they look adorable in them :D ) and lots of potty time because the medicine may make him diarrhetic. It gives them diarrhea and it smells REALLLY bad so don't worry if that happens. Lots of broiled chicken and rice to help him but in very very very small portions. Don't worry we are all here for you. You are doing the right thing. :D  |
I'll be thinking about Tiger! he'll be fine, no worries. he's tough boy. just keep him confine away from annika when you go to work on monday, and maybe put a diaper on him! LOL this way he can't get to his stitches while your away |
Awww I will keep Tiger in my prayers. Diamond is scheduled to get spayed next Tuesday and I am so nervous! She is not even 3 pounds yet :( Diamond and I send our love and prayers :heart to |
I would put your baby in an xpen while you gone !Will keep your baby in my prayers, he will be fine, when Rosi was spayed i was a nervous wreck, she was 3.8 pounds and a tooth pulled and microchipped. And more then likely in 3 mo. Poli got to get neuterd too and microchipped. Not looking forward to it either. Will be thinking about your Baby ! |
Murphy and I will keep you and Tiger in our prayers Des. It is all going to work out great - I am a big believer of positive confessions. :) When I had Murphy done at the yound age of 5 months old he was so sacked out afterwards. He did not even want to move at all. As long as you put him somewhere out of reach from Annika I think he will not even care about her being there. It will be afterwards you might have to keep thier rough play to a minimum. It was very sad but in a few days he was back to himself. From what I have heard the boys jump back pretty fast. Give Tiger some kisses from us and we will hear from you when he is back home safely. :luvu: :luvu: |
Des - we will be thinking of Tiger and sending well wishes your way. He will be just fine, but it will be very strange for you to be home and not have him there with you that evening. The vet may let you come and visit him later that afternoon if you want (mine did since Sissy also stayed overnight). When you bring him home, I'm hoping they will have given him some kind of pain medicine, so he will probably still be pretty groggy. If he allows it, why not just hold him lots that day. He'll most likely feel much better by Saturday, so you may not have to keep him separate from Annika. But for sure by the time you go to work on Monday, he will be his regular self again so you shouldn't need to worry about keeping him apart from Annika. Keeping his belly band on so he doesn't lick the wounds might be a good idea for a few days, too. Sissy send hims lots of kisses!! |
I know it's awful to leave them, especially when they have to stay overnight, but even if we tell you not to worry, you will! :) Just watch them very carefully when you bring him home. x-pen when you can't.;) |
  :kiss3: :kiss3: aww Peeka and Boo send lots of kisses to tiger we all hope everything goes good keep us up to date poor baby.  :kiss3: :kiss3: |

Saying prayers and sending well wishes to Tiger. I know how scary it can be so I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers till he is safe at home with his mama.:) |
Kona, Puppy Doe, and I all are sending our best wishes to Tiger. We hope he has a few restful days at home. Give Tiger big hugs and kisses from all of us! (Also give some to Annika so she doesn't feel left out of getting all of the attention.):nursing: |
good luck. I'm sure he will be fine but I know you worry. I've had one neutered before but never had one spayed as Kizzy is my first girl dog since I was a young girl. But she will be getting spade sometimes within the next couple of weeks hopefully. I havent made the appt yet but I will as soon as Aug 3rd as I can. So prayers for you and Tiger. |
Tiger is in my prayers. He will do great! The onsies are very helpful if they start to go after the stitches like Cali did. |
Des, my thoughts are with you and Tiger. I'm sure everything will be fine and Tiger will be uncontrollably romping in very short order. You might consider separating the two. A diaper or an elizabethan collar would help with stiches, if he has any. Some vets don't put stiches in little boys. One of my cats pulled her stiches out on post-op day two. I was so upset, rushed her into the vet. As it turns out. she only pulled the stiches holding the outer tissue layers together. The ones deep inside (the ones that count) were still intact. In fact, by that second day her incision had already healed on the outside. The vet said not to worry, and she had no problems. He did put an elizabethan collar on her just to be safe. I think it lasted another day as I could not stand to see her in it! The moral of this story? This will bother you alot more than it will bother Tiger! We are here for you! |
I totally understand how you feel. I was a nervous wreck when Zoe got neutered. I even cried when I dropped him off. Then the worst came, he had LP surgery a month later. He's fine now but still recovering. Tiger will be in my prayers!! I'm sure he will be fine. Yea, I would put him in a xpen for a few days so that he dosen't have heavy excersize during the first few days of healing. GOOD LUCK! |
Cooper and I will say a prayer and be thinking of you and him |
Tiger is in our prayers..Zoe gives him kisses and will think of him...I know how you feel, we have to get spayed next month and I'm scared to death! Jennie |
I just had my Bo fixed this week...and it was so scarey for me and hubby to actualy he was spose to be fixed a month b4 now but hubby made me put it off he said he just couldnt let him go through it yet so i put it off.........but after it was over we both realized it wasnt half as bad as we thought it was going to be....he was back to himself it two days...as far as your other little guy i would just keep them away from eachother for a day and after that i would think it would be ok....*hugs* my prayers and thought are with you and your baby on thursday |
we send love and prayers. |
I'm sure dogs are different... But a few years ago - I brought my little boy home and he slept for a few hours - woke up - ate - and then I couldn't keep him from playing. He was already back to normal. Of course, I kept him as quiet as I could for a few days, but he didn't pay much attention to me.... and, he played pretty much as usual with my other dog - at least from the second day on............... Good luck! |
Des--let us know how Tiger is doing after you pick him up :) |
Thank you all for the comforting words . . . .it sure helps to know that most of you have been down this road and know how I am feeling. I have complete confidence in my VET but you just never know :( Tomorrow is the BIG day and I just want it to be over . . . I will visit him after his surgery even if I cannot take him home yet. I am so glad he is not even gonna be a mile away from home . .but it sure will be weird without him at home. I am glad I have Annika around to keep me preoccupied. |
:hands: saying my prayers for Tiger. |
Des, please post tomorrow and let us know how Tiger is! |
Hi Des.... I'll be praying for Tiger on Thurs. I know all will go well. I would keep him and Annika separated for a few days afterwards. I know Parker was really sore for several days. I'll keep you in my prayers. Give Tiger kisses from Maddie:p |
I'll say a prayer for Tiger. I'm sure he'll be okay. Max was groggy the day of the procedure when I picked him up but he was back to his old self the next day. He was such a good boy, too. He never tried to lick his stitches so I didn't have to put a onsie or e-coller on him. He was also calm for the most part, but Abbie hadn't become part of the family until the following year so I didn't have to worry about him playing too rough. I'd just make sure one is in the ex-pen when they are not supervised so they don't play too rough. Good luck :) |
