How often does your Yorkie pee?? Princess is 14 months old and she pees every 2 hours (unless she drinks water, then I take her out again in half an hour).. is this normal? Since it is summer now, she doesn't need to pee as much, so I take her out every 2.5 hours.. She hasn't made any mistakes by peeing on the carpet, but she doesn't really tell me when she needs to go, I just automatically take her out every 2 hours. Does your Yorkie tell you when she/he needs to pee? |
Mine respond to "Do you have to go potty?" and then they do a little circle dance. You might actually be "training" her to go every 2 hours. At that age she really should be able to hold it longer than that. If she is just going out and squatting once then I would just slowly lengthen the time up to say 4 hours. If she goes out and squats more than once I would have her urine tested to rule out a bladder or kidney infection (but it doesn't sound like that is the problem or she would be peeing in your house). A lot of people hang bells on the door and the dogs actually ring them to go out! |
Yeah, ever since she was a puppy, I've been taking her out every 2 hours so she is pretty used to it..I guess I will slowly start to increase it to 3 hours.. hopefully she isn't so used to it that she goes on the carpet  |
For sure - the older they get - the less often they pee. I also take my dogs out every two hours or so, and if I faithfully do this, they rarely have an accident in the house. They aren't good about telling me they need to go out. If my Bichon is ever sitting near the door (that is the best he ever does)... I'd better take him out. My Yorkie come by and barks at me occasionally. So I take him out whether he's telling me he needs to go out or not is anyone's guess. I do know that my Yorkie does most of his peeing between 6:00 and 10:00 at night. Don't ask me why. He can go all day without peeing and all night without peeing....but evenings are just his time. Good luck! Carol Jean |
My girl pees about every 2 to 3 hours, in the house very often:mad: |
Well Mollys only a few months old but I swear she pees like every 15 miniutes. |

She also doesn't give any signal, other than to sit and look at you for all of about 30 seconds. It you don't see her or immediately respond, she will go wherever. |
Mitzi (9 y.o.) goes 4 to 5 times a day. But when we go out more often she pees more often because she knows that when we go out she has to pee. Sometimes she just squatts down and 'fakes' if she really doesn't have to go. Smartypants! :D |
Teddy & Tiffanie are 1 & 1/2 and they go out every 4 hours...Teddy will go rub up against the door letting me know or when I say "Do U have to go potty?". When I got both of them @ 6 weeks I took them out every hour until they got older...I'm taking the baby I'm keeping from our litter out once a hour until he gets the hang of it and he also uses the puppy pad. Hugs, Lee |
Penny is 2 1/2. She usually pees once more than she poops so about 4x a day - morning, afternoon, 2x in the evening. She can really hold it when she wants. From her last evening outing (around 9ish) she won't go again until the next morning when she gets up (around 10-11, sometimes later). |
Alot! both of mine go out alot. They can hold thier pee pee for 4 hrs but usually that is only when we are gone during the day. If we are at home they usually want to go out every hour. I don't take any chances with Remmy because he has had bladder infections and bladder stones. He had to have surgery. So I make sure he has water at all times and goes to the bathroom as often as possible to prevent stones again. Chance is still a pup so he usually goes outside everytime Remmy does. |
My nyx pees frequently too since she is still a pup she sleeps a lot and right before a nap she gulps up some water and as soon as she wakes up straight to the wee wee pad she goes. Everytime she does that circle dance I know it's time to potty |
I have a nice fenced in area so I let mine out for 1-2 hours at a time. They have a doggie door so they can come in or go out through it as well. Unless it's raining I leave them out there for a while so they can do there business and play. |

Hmm... no shes been peeing about every 2 hours since she was a pup, not really because of the weather~ |
Hannah will sit by the back door when she has to go. Usually 4 times a day. She just sits there until someone comes by and lets her out. |
Pee machine My 4 mo yorkie pees on average every 15 minutes! Dunno how I'll ever housetrain her. I don't think she has a bladder infection since she can hold it for up to 6 hours when she's in her xpen but as soon as she gets out it's free game. Any suggestions are welcome! |

ALOT...i'll let her out to pee and she comes back in 10 minutes later and I see a puddle on the floor. |
My dog is a year old now -- (but like a lot of you - I know he pee'd every 15 minutes when he was a pup). Now he sleeps all night without peeing - stays home alone in the kitchen for 6 or 7 hours every day and never pees. If I get him out every couple hours - he almost never pee's in the house. BUT - like I said earlier - his peeing time seems to be between 6:00 and 11:00 in the evening. He pee's two or three times (or four) during this time. So - I really have to keep an eye on him. Actually, this is when I slap a belly band on him (in the evenings) because I don't trust him. I really do try to take him out often - and, if I do - he almost never has an accident in the house. So which one of us is potty trained -- I think it's me! Carol Jean |
All five of mine all pee every 5 or 6 hours. 3 out of 5 dogs are under a year old and the two older ones can really hold it alot longer than 5 or 6 hours, I just let them out that often. We have a bathroom schedule that they have gotten use to and as long as you let them out every 5 hours they won't have any accidents. Well they were all around 3 months old they all peed alot and frequently. I think the person training them determines how long they will go without having an accident once they are older. At over a year they should be able to hold it alot longer than 2 hours. Mine are still working on telling me that they have to go. Two out of the five are always very good at telling me that they have to go. One will do a potty dance and the other will get up by face and start whining and barking and then will sit by the door. The others are still learning as to what sign or way they should do to tell me that they have to go out. |
Every time they need to go . |
Is it terrible that I have no idea when mine go? They are in the garage most of the day while we are at work, so as soon as we get home they go into the back yard. From there Marilynn comes in and stays with us for the night. Sometimes I will notice her sitting very quietly and patiently by the door, and I'll let her out. But we do let her out fairly frequently, not really on a schedule or anything like that. Other than that, our house doesn't stink and I don't notice any new spots so, if she does go, she hides it well. Melvin on the other hand will pee on anything, anytime, anywhere! I've watched him pee for 20 minutes or more in the back yard, marking his spots. Same goes in the house, he is always looking around for something, nosing here and there. We really have to keep an eye on him 24/7. The only time they just aren't in the house too often is when they are filthy dirty, because the two of them are always into something nasty. |
If Kelsey is out of the cage...every 2 hours. If she's inside her cage while i"m at work she can usually hold it for up to 7 hours. She doesnt like the rain though so I have to put puppy pads down when it's raining and she'll go on those frequently. |
Scout is 5 months old now and can only hold it about 1 hour before she decides to pee on my favorite rug. Is this normal? I had read on this forum somewhere that puppies should be able to hold it about how many months they are, so for her about 5 hours. I don't know if I'm expecting too much from her. How long should she be able to hold it at this age? |
My bella pees about every 4 to 5 hrs.She is 8 going on 9 month. She tells me by braking at me or pawing at my arm. SHe can hold it over night, as long as she goes out RIGHT before we go to bed and goes again as SOON as I get up. My bunny Can hold for a while. She can hold it over night and maybe 5 to 6 hrs during the day... depending how much water she drank!! .she is almost two. She tells me by jumping on me, pawing at me, licking my hand... just any way she can to say HEY MOMMY I got to GO! |
At 9 months, Ava likes to be let out every 4 hours. She'll go 6 if I needed, I just prefer not to have her hold it that long. And of course, she holds it all night. |
I think by taking them outside to pee they learn to hold it longer. Mine go on pee pads in the house, so they haven't ever had to hold it for a long period of time. They pee all the time. They go through 175 pee pads a month. Thats about 6 a day, and there soaked when I throw them out. Thats about 3 pees on a pad. So 3x6=18 That would make about 9 pees per dog a day. So 24 hours in a day. 24 hrs divided by 9 pees. That's every 2 1/2 hours. LOL I have stairs at the end of our bed, they do get up in the night & go pee when they have to. |
My lil man pees about 6 times a day. He drinks plenty of fluids though |
