What stores can dogs go into I was just wondering what stores are dogs allowed into, beside the usual pet stores???? I know I got kicked out of the Super Wal-mart here in my town. They said it was considered a grocery store, so no dogs were allowed which is understandable. I wouldn't want dog hairs flying around the food I buy, although yorkies don't shed, but others do. Do you guys know if dogs are allowed all stores? Or just certain ones that are not grocery stores? Or does it depend on the store manager???? Let me know I don't like to get kicked out of stores with my baby. |
Well any store that carries food def. doesn't allow pets.. it's the law. If you google pet friendly places, you'll find a website with guides to different websites that tell you places where dogs are allowed. :) |

I recently took zoe to the mall in a pet stroller and everyone gave me a weird look but the thing was...HE STARTED BARKING!! The mall is a open area so there were echoes of his bark everywhere that I had to cut shopping short and take him home. He's CRAZY! |

I think it's a liability thing. If they let one in they have to let them all in and then eventually someone is going to get bitten and the store will be sued. Can't blame the stores for wanting to protect themselves, in fAct it might not even be the store manager, but rather the insurance companies that forbid it. We live in a sue happy society. |
I took Schatzi into a Payless Shoe store last week, and no one said anything to me... I tend to not want to risk taking her into places that carry food items, so places like Target and Walmart, grocery store, restaurants, etc. are out:( I have heard that if you go to a restaurant and eat outside on the patio or deck, that it's ok, but I haven't tried it yet. I think if you have a quiet dog that will stay in a carrier, you have a better chance of sneaking them in places- oh yeah, I took Schatzi to the post office, too! |

I work at Michaels arts and crafts and My store allows dogs as long as they are either held or in the basket. they are only allowed to walk on the leash if they are seeing eye dogs. |
Check out www.dogfriendly.com they have a pretty good list of places that allows dogs. In Southern California (Orange County), there are a couple of outdoor malls that are dog friendly and you can take them into most stores there including the department stores. Jazzie loves going to them and has been in stores like Borders Book Store & Victoria's Secrets! Other places that allows dogs (at least by me) are Home Depot, Lowes & some Barnes & Nobels. She is also allowed at many restaurants in the patio dining area like Red Robins & Mimi's. |
I take Gus everywhere with me. All my local stores (including the market) know us and don't have a problem with Gus being there as long as he stays in his bag. I once had someone complain at coldstone (costumer) and told the store manager. The manager came up to me and told me that in the future to please leave the dog at home. He didn't ask me to leave but I was pissed and told my husband that someone had a problem with me having Gus in the store so I was going to wait for him outside out loud so that everyone can hear. A lady at the back of the line stoped me as I was walking out and said out loud,, some people have to have something to bit** about. They would have never known he was there if it weren't for my daughter talking baby talk into his bag. Someone ratted me out at Target once also. The manager came out and told us that dogs were not allowed in the store "UNLESS IT WAS A SERVICE DOG" and gave me a wink. I just hope Manny doesn't get transferred anytime soon! I don't know if I can get away with the lie with out showing proof. |

Mia went to the bank with me yesterday, and caused quite the commotion with everyone trying to get a peak into her carrier. The manager was telling me that a lady with a great dane showed up about a week ago, coming back from the groomer's or something, but they were fine with it. They actually seemed very happy that Mia was small and in a carrier. She goes into Blockbuster, some pet friendly malls, some not pet friendly malls with the condition that we only go to the pet supplies store located at the mall. We are allowed to sit on the patio of coffee shops, but not inside. When we go into stores she always stays in her bag. Even at Petsmart. That way I don't have to worry about her getting sick from whatever is on the floor, or worry that she will pee all over the place. If she starts whining, we leave the store. |
I have gone into Wal Mart here once, but was nervous they would ask me to leave. I just had to pick something up and was out. I always try to be nice, but if someone gave me grief about one of my dogs, I would get defensive and mouthy. So..I usually don't take them into any stores with me although I want to so bad. |

Our branch also had a pet hamster for the kids to look at when they came in so we were a pretty pet friendly bunch! |
we go everywhere I've taken Sparks almost everywhere. If it doesn't have food, I let him pop his head out: Kaufmanns, mall, Sears, you name it...I've been in it. If it is a Target or Walmart...I don't even chance it (I conceal him). I have two carriers...one looks like a hobo bag (got it from walmart) and the other a celltei. Both conceal VERY well. I've been in convienent stores, cold stone (buy it and then leave and eat it outside), pizza places (again...just to buy a slice and leave), etc. He does not make noise for short periods of time and if I am carrying the bag. We are currently working on staying in the bag quietly and longer so that I can sneak him to work with me sometimes. No one ever knows that he is in there if he is quiet or not moving. |
