thinking of getting a...... Datsun...aka...weinre dog for a buddy for Mason. Anybody have one and there temperment good? |
I had one as a kid and she was a great dog. Her name was Ginger and she was black and tan. She was very smart and sweet. My Mom would not let her lick us in the face unless we brushed her teeth. So my sister and I would brush her teeth and she loved it. She would hold her lips up so we could brush them.:D Sorry I am rambling you just brought up fond memories. I think they are great dogs. |
My dad has one (Bailey)! Simon and Hallie got along great with him when we visited! He is very calm according to my Dad but my dad also feeds him off of a spoon in the recliner. Bailey is a little spoiled :) |
My old roomate had a miniature Dachsund, and she was just great. They do shed though, even though their hair is short. Very friendly, kind of skiddish though. |
haha..well I can get a female or male for 200.00....she has red dapple and blue dapplr...which I dont know what that is. |
The dapple is the kind that has little dots in their coloring. |
Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/dachshund.htm |

THey dont get real big right..the miniture? |
They have miniature ones that aren't quite as long. Deedee weighed about 8-9lbs, and I think dachsunds are usually between 12-15 lbs or more. My former roomate had rescued her from the shelter but yes apparently there is such a thing as miniature dachsunds, but they aren't pocket sized or anything. |

I just dont want one really friggin huge. Mason is under 5 pounds..he weighs 4 pounds 10 oz. would like one under 7-8 if its possible! |
Then just look for a miniature, and check out the breeder. Deedee didn't look like an 8lbs dog, she looked like she was 5-6 lbs but she was just heavy when you picked her up. |
Mini Dachsund 4 Attachment(s) Hi, I've had Mini Dachsund's all my life, in fact, we have one now :) They are great dogs! My little Yorkie gets along G-R-E-A-T with my Dachsund. They play together CONSTANTLY! My Dachsund is solid Red (my FAVORITE color in the Dachsund). She is 3 years old and so cute! Never heard of a 7 lb Dachsund though, so good luck there! LOL. She's a Mini, and she's little, but not THAT little :p P.S.- If you do happen to get a Dachsund, BE WARNED: they eat EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING! They are like garbage disposals! lol. In fact, I call my Pippi that all the time lol :p This is a well know charachteristic of the Dachsund breed. They are Badger Hunters so their instinct is to hunt (mine likes to hunt bugs etc, LOL). Poop, pee, throw up, bugs, frogs, grass snakes, etc., etc...you name it, THEY EAT IT! Pretty disgusting, lol. All nasty eating habbits aside though, they are wonderful dogs to have around lol. If you get one, just don't ever let him/her lick you in the face/mouth LOL. Here are some pictures of our Pippi (AKA: "The Pippinator") lol. And of course you can see her in one of the pictures about to pounce on a grass snake. See what I mean? lol. :p |

Grew up with Dachsunds my whole life.... they are great dogs, but they must be trained well!! They have strong wills ;) My grandparents had one named Charlie who was a great dog and lived to be 16 years old, but he wasn't trained very well and went potty all over the house, and bit strangers! After Charlie passed away, they got another one named Woody, he was a rescue dog, purebred Dachsund, though, and he was a GREAT dog! He was trained very well and he loved everybody, never had any pottying problems, or temperment problems, we all loved him so much! He lived to be 14 years old and now we miss him so much.... just make sure if you get one to train it early, and train it well- then you'll have a great dog for many years... good luck and show us pics if you get one!! |
