? about a contract clause Just read over a breeders contract and saw this clause "We have recently experienced the following common medical problems which is seemingly to appear once the puppy leaves the kennel- Kennel Cough and Giardia (both of these conditions can be triggered by the stress of moving to a new home, traveling, etc.). When you recieve your puppy, if you notice him coughing as though he has something stuck in his throat, or blood in a mucusy stool, please call me for more information and Instructions. This is a common occurance with toy pups and we are not liable for the costs realting to these conditions" So what do you think? Is this a common clause in the contracts? Need advise!! Thanks |
Nope, don't think so! I think that pup was exposed to kennel cough. I never heard of them getting that from stress! Hope you did not get a puppy from that breeder. But if you did, I would take him to the vet to be checked out. Ellie |
Sounds to me like they are just trying to get out of guaranteeing a healthy puppy. There are too many breeders out there with healthy puppies. Pass this one by. |
My contract stated that the health guarantee did not cover parasites/worms. It didn't specify kennel cough, but at Sissy's vet check the next day, she got her bordetalla intranasal and she promptly developed an upper respiratory infection (basically kennel cough) a few days later. THe vet did not charge me for a repeat visit as she had just had the innoculation, but I did have to pay for meds which was about $60 and it took two rounds of them for it to go away. |
I'm sorry but that just isnt right. I dont see how they can get away with that>>>> |

Of course, now that I know about YT and spend LOTS of time here daily, I know much more and would have questioned everything!!! So, now I know for when I get my next baby. |

Cocidia can be cause by stress but I am not sure about the Giardia. I was always of the thought that it had to due with the enviorment the puppy was raised under. Dirty drinking water, and a enviroment that required more cleanliness. |
Kc One time several breeders posted on Yorkie Friends that kennel cough was very common and no big deal in puppies..I disagreed and said it was a big deal..some pet owners have a terrible time getting it cleared up and it costs in vet bills. It can not be hard to prevent, because I never had a case in over 30 yrs...KC is a virus and of course stress can make anything worse, but does not cause it. |

Well, Sissy didn't get Giardia till I had her for five months. She doesn't have dirty drinking water and her environment isn't spotless, but it is very clean. My vet said it is very easy to pick up from many different sources and a very common parasite. I had recently started walking her and I know they can get it from other dog's poop, something as simple as stepping where it was (even if not there now) and licking their paw. It is also found in standing water and we had just had three weeks of rain. Sissy likes to "eat" the wood chips in our flower beds (I take them away as quickly as I can), but I know they were saturated with the rain water. If there are trace amounts in an animal's system, stress can make them grow out of control. So, ultimately I don't know how she got it, but boarding her would have been the ultimate stressor to make it grow out of control. |

I am sure that your enviroment for the baby is clean- but where you were walking the little one was "Dirty" from someone else who did not pick after their pet and contaminated the area. I have always been afraid to take my dogs to common parks and areas that other people use for their pets. I have been very luck that no one has came home with something from a dog show. You can never be too careful |

It is a crazy world sometimes no matter what you do- you get a bite on the ankle. You just try and do the best that you can and be a responsible pet owner. |
Cali had Coccidia and kennel cough within a few days of getting her. The Breeder said that she had been treated with Albon 5 days prior and not to treat her again and the vet said no to treat her. But she never had any symptoms of Coccidia just her stool sample showed it. The KC took over 3 months to get rid of and she gave it to my Pom. I only had 48 hour gurantee so I didn't really pursue it with the breeder. This was all before I found YT I am so much wiser on buying a puppy now after YT. |
