I would find another local emergency vet. Give them a call and see what they say. Good luck! I'll be thinking about Bella today. Let us know what they say. |

I just sent you a PM with my vet's phone number. I know it is long distance but a little life may be at stake. DH is my husband's name. He the doc can tell you what to do over the phone weather or not to get her somewhere quick or get the stomach pumped or what. Good luck and keep us posted. |

You don't say how many milligrams the Advil (ibuprofen) is or how much the dog weighs, but I am glad you are getting her to an emergency vet. The vet will be able to give her some charcoal to get as much out of her system as possible and then give her iv fluids to prevent renal failure. They will also probably give her something to reduce stomach erosion (ulcers). Keep us informed. In doing a quick check, a lethal dose was like 600 mg per/kg (2.2 pounds) so I'm sure she is going to be fine with proper care, but does need to be in a dr's care. |

Yes! Thank you so much for the number...I just put in my cell phone and posted it on a few other message boards for friends that have pets. |
MOG how is your baby????? Update, PLEASE |
Call another vet. ASAP! Hope all is ok. |
Yes, thank you for posting this number. I saw this poisoning issue come up last week on YT with rat poison. Please let us know how Bella is doing, I'll keep praying she is fine. |
I hope little Bella is okay. Hope we will hear the outcome. YT'ers to the rescue. |
Bella is in my prayers! Please let us know how she is doing. |
Hopefully you were able to get in touch with an emergency vet. Here's a good article on OTC meds and dogs/cats. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/nsaids.html I had a friend who gave her dog OTC meds thinking that because it was safe for humans that it was safe for her dog...sadly, the pup ended up passing away. Dogs and cats' livers process these meds so differently than we do. |
OMG off to an emergency vet clinic!!!!!!!!!! Don't waste any time. I will pray for your little girl. I wish you the best. Try to stay calm and good luck |
I know this post is to late to help with the immediate issue, but one time when one of my yorkies ate one of my husbands heart pills, the vet told us to give her hydrogen peroxide to mke her vomit. We did and it worked. later we found the pill, she hadn't eaten it after all, she had dropped it. Just thought I'd post that information for future episodes. |
Any news about Bella, please let us know? |
Hopefully I read this after the emergency was over but FYI anyway My daughter's a vet tech at an emergency center and she said the same thing about the Hydrogen Peroxide but she added to make sure to give lots of water after so they don't dehydrate. I guess the advil can cause kidney damage. Please keep us posted on what's happening!! |

Humm. Thank you for that bit of information. I did not know that. That will definitely go in my "Health Issues" Binder I keep for emergency references. I ALWAYS ask my vet first of course. But how much does it take to work? Thanks again. (See...this is why I love YT!) |
my daughter says 2-3 tablespoons starting with one until it works. she's not a vet but a vet tech. |
The Hydrogen Peroxide is an EMERGENCY only treatment in case there is no where to take the dog immediately, I guess they can start vomiting and not be able to stop. So it is a last ditch thing. |

I am getting worried! We have not heard anything back on how the little dog is doing even my husband is asking if I have heard anything about the poor little thing. I pray everything is ok. |
Yea hopefully they are at the vet! My daughter's dog got into some prescription strength Naproxen and was in the vet's for 2 days on IV's. We were never sure how much he got of it but it is extra strength Advil. He's fine. He didn't like being at the vet's!! Cuz he felt fine, they were just watchin him and had him on IV's to flush out his system, my daughter wasn't sure how much time had gone by since he got into it I guess when they induced vomiting nothing came up so they had to flush him out...poor guy, he's an 8 pound chihuahua. |
I hope everything is okay! I'm thinking about you and Bella. |
Any update on Bella? |
Update on Bella First of all I want to thank each and every one of you for your kind words and advice. I did get in tough with the animal poison help line and they told me to give her the hydrogen peroxide and milk, which I did and she vomitted. There was not one emergency vet in my area to take her to so I watched her all day and she seemed fine. This morning she was vomitting like crazy but right after she did she would drink and eat, and then she kept that down. I took her to her vet as soon as they opened at 8 am this morning and he said that she appeared to look good but wanted her to stay there for the day and he was going to run some tests. I called them a little while ago to see how she was doing and they said that she had not vomitted again so that was good, but the blood tests were not in yet. I just pray to God that my little Bella will be ok. She is such a happy sweet little thing and I dont know if I could handle it if anything were to happen to her. Again, I want to thank all of you, and I will keep you posted as much as I can. Tami |
