Where Do You Take Your Yorkie? Hi everyone; I was just wondering, where do you take your yorkies when you go out? Do you take them shopping, or on errands? vacation? or even the post office? I love those cute little bags they fit in, but as bad as I want to take my Sadie with me everywhere, I don't want to get in trouble:eek: I do think I'm going to get one of those bags, though. They seem really practical and they hold their supplies as well- I do visit family a lot, so one of those bags would be perfect to take her in So where do you take YOUR little furbaby? Have you gone into shops unnoticed? Were you ever caught? Tell me your stories, I'd love to hear! |
There are posts on this subject, "Traveling with my guy", under "New Posts", and I am sure it has probably been covered at other times, you might want to do a search. Good Luck. |
1 Attachment(s) I just received a Celltei Bag as a gift and I love it. I took Cali out in it to petsmart and no one knew she was in there. She does not like tobe out in the open when we are out so it works out great. But you can also make it so they can be seen if you want. |
1 Attachment(s) i take baxter everywhere. we go to the mall and any store that will let us in. |
Our girls go almost everywhere with us....they go shopping with us, on vacation, and anywhere else that they are allowed to go!! The only places they aren't allowed are Walmart and Target and any other place that sells food products!! We have never been kicked out of anywhere, most places around here are really pet friendly!! |

Has anyone ever run into trouble doing this? It seems that people generally have a pretty easy time taking their yorkies out.. |
I have taken Diamond foodshopping with me, to Walgreens, to Walmart, etc etc. No one ever says anything and if they see her, the make such a big deal about giving her love and attention. She is only about 2 pounds so maybe a lot of people don't see her? I attached a picture of the carrier I got. I just got it off of eBay for $20, I think it's just as good as any other carrier and I am sure she will end up going pee/poop in it one of these days so I didn't think it was wise to spend a fortune. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/lcw120/9dff8521.jpg |
Well good question.....since I just came back from 2 hours of shopping and Sully went into every store with me (in his bag with his head poking out) and he did great! He was "ooh" and "ahh'd" over but never once asked to leave (we went to liz claiborne and belk and gap and kay jewelers) But Sully goes everywhere with me except restaurants and grocery stores. He even goes to work with me! He has a carseat in my car and loves to travel. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks for all of your replies, keep them coming! I ordered a celltei bag for Sadie, the classic black pak-o-pup in size small. I was thinking of getting XS but I don't want her to be scrunched in when she gets bigger. The size S says it's good for carrying dogs around 6-8 pounds comfortably, so until she gets bigger I'll just pad the bottom with some blankets and a toy. I can't wait to take her out with me, I don't even have her yet (getting her July 9th) and she's already getting spoiled!:p |
Unfortunately, any place that has a license to sell ANY food is forced by law to ask you to leave with your baby. Of course, what they don't know/see won't hurt them but it would be really inconvenient to be asked to leave if you NEED milk and bread and toilet paper in preparation for a storm..LOL I was asked to leave a Jo-Ann's fabric center when I went in with a sick tiny puppy who had just been to the vet. To beat it all I was buying tons of material to make doggie beds for my dirty dozen and they knew me cause I bought fabric there all the time... I let them have it but good.. Still, they didn't back down. Boo-hiss!!! |
We were at "Bass Pro shop" Fri night, Ruby went inside with us, I had several comments on how cute she was, but no one asked us to leave. They have a restaurant there, but we were no where near the door to it, at anytime. |
I have taken molly to the mall,target,wal-mart I LOVE THOSE BAGS. I have one on ebay now if your interested. |
For WhispersMom: Man, I hate that! You know, for example- some people can go into stores with their loud obnoxious kids running all over the place, causing trouble and bothering people, but a little puppy, CONTAINED and QUIET in a purse? What's the big deal?? Oh well! Laws are laws, I guess. I think I'll start out small, like trips to the post office, little errands like that.. If I get brave enough, I'll chance a quick trip to the Jewel for a gallon of milk! Ha, I'm such a rebel....(yeah right :D ) I think the majority of places, and the people in them wouldn't have a problem- most people love dogs. |
I don't get Gia until 7/14 and I bought her a carrier too |
I take all our pups with us when we go for rides. Shopping, only to PetSmart, and then only under supervision. One rule I will always follow, never, never leave the pups in a vehicle alone even for one second. I do take leashes and halters in case of a breakdown on the road. (You can never be too careful. Also I take some dry food and water and have it just in case. Its kinda like taking a diaper bag for a baby :) |
I had two different carriers for Cali waay before I got her :D She goes everywhere with me..shopping at the mall, Walmart, Target, Kroger, movies and half the time nobody knows. When they see her little head poking out, everyone gushes over her. I havent been asked to leave yet..but Im sure my day is coming :D |

Sissy goes with me to PetSmart and the bank. I'm home most of the time so if I'm seriously shopping, I wouldn't want to worry about her being with me. |
Got kicked out :( Yes...I actually got kicked out! I was running in Lund's grocery and had Chewy up on my shoulder. Ran to the ice cream section and ran to the checkout line not before the manager was quickly walking toward me - yikes! She did say I couldn't have my little pup in there so I handed her my visa and driver's license and said..."Well, then will you purchase this for me since I have to leave?" Surprisingly enough she was more than happy to help. I waited outside the store 50 feet away from the cashier and watched her through the window. She came out seconds later with my card and ice cream. But hey, I wasn't going to leave him in the car...not even if it's for a minute!!! Even if I had to sacrafice my treat - haha. |

As to where we go with her - anywhere that we don't already know that law or store management forbid her coming in. Just about everyone loves to see her and fuss over her. |
ha ha ha you wont get in trouble they'll just ask you to leave I'm always like "whatever" and just drop her off at home (NEVER LEAVE A DOG IN A CAR ALONE!!!) we take her almost everywhere (never the grocery store or any other place with food though, because I know that isn't allowed in Cali) We take her shopping but there's certain malls that don't let her in if you go shopping at like a "strip mall" usually all the stores let her in sometimes I just carry her without a bag Macy's lets me! |
most of the malls here are pet friendly (at least I think it is) so I take Buttercup with me every time I go shopping. I don't really have to hide him. I was afraid of taking him to the mall at first until I saw people bringing their pets (mostly toy dogs). I also take him when I run errands, vacations, business trips and also to my husband's office (he's self-employed). Only place I don't take him are restaraunts and anywhere selling food. |
I almost forgot I took him to pizza hut the other day. They didnt care and loved her. She never camr out of her bad. She was a good little baby. |
Last year we moved about 4 hours away - before we moved though, we would visit every weekend - drive 4 hours in a car every weekend and we took our 3 with us every time! We take them to get gas, go to the local convenience store - Kmart lets us in with them - the local malls do to (there are no restaurants in these malls though). As long as there are 2 people in the car so they are never left alone (we won't even leave them alone long enough to run in to pay for the gas) we take them. Each of them has a car seat and its great! |
i take Bo everywhere i go also....we dont go in where they sell food but other places he goes in with no problem....my hubby drives a truck and me and Bo ride along and he loves to travel....he has everything in the truck as he does at home so he is comfy at all times....good luck with taking your baby in places and i am sure once you do it you will see there is nothing to worry about. |
I don't really take Trixie or Kasey many places with me-maybe just back and forth from my mom's house. Trixie gets car sick and would much rather stay home and sleep on my bed. I just kind of go by the rule that if I have to wonder, "Is it OK to take them in here with me?" then it's probably better if I just leave them at home.:) Plus, my human child really likes running errands with me, so I like to make sure that is time devoted to JUST her. |
I haven't taken my larger one anywhere in a bag, just on errands where I will be staying in the car with her. With my new smaller dog, I took her to Wal-Mart today. We picked up a few groceries and a couple of other things and it went great. I must admit it is a little more stressful shopping trying to make sure your furbaby doesn't pop her head out! :D omega |

I brought Rocky into Target, he was in his bag and it was zipped...but he kept whining so I opened the bag a bit for him to stick his head through, and he pushes through and kept trying to come out. We were in the food section, and a few employees walked by and looked at me but they didn't say anything about him, and I did finally get him back in lol. I dont think that wouldve looked to good if I DID let him out right there lol. I take Rocky wherever he's allowed. We've been to the malls, target, menards, and even to the bar (half of the bar is outdoors w/ a big volleyball court and it's pet friendly..I made sure of that before I took him!) If I'm not sure if he's allowed somewhere I'll find out, or if were already there and he's not allowed one of us will wait outside with him. |

Nowhere. He ways more than the average bowling ball.:D 11lbs |
I am on another Yorkie site and the owner/manager takes her babies everywhere. Including the grocery store. Well, maybe not restuarants, I don't know if she has tried that. Oh, yes, I just remembered she did do it once. She doesn't usually take the adults to the grocery store but she has a large carry bag and takes all the babies with her. Well, except right now, she has 15 babies. I keep asking her if no one says anything in the grocery store and she doesn't usually answer so I am supposing not. She even gets pictures of the babies out of the bag in the grocery store, you can see the goods on the shelves behind them. I am so amazed by it. I took one baby in a grocery store one time and no one said anything, the next time, same store I was asked to leave. My husband was with me so it wasn't a problem but still! I really don't see a problem if they are in their bags. Even if they poop or pee, it's in the bag, not a problem for the store. It irks me! Sylvia |
