We have aliways used the tweezer method for tick removal. I have a question though about what to use to prevent ticks. Our Vet has Ruby on Revolution, because it is safe to use for dogs under five pounds, it gets some species of ticks, but not others. And, although I don't see any fleas on her, she does sometimes scratch, as if she has a flea. Does anyone know of anything I can use that is safe for dogs under five pounds that will do a better job than Revolution? |
We took Paddy to the vets and they got the tick out with a tool that resembled a two prong fork. It took 2 nurses and the vet to do it!!! Then they put him on antibiotics and for one little tick it cost us £25  But hes all better now so thats ok! Thanks for all the advice,if he ever gets one again (and I hope he doesnt!) and its not on his chin Ill keep your tips in mind!! ;) |

idk if you fixed this yet but when my larger dog Chloe got a tick we weren't gonna screw around we went straight to the vet, and we barely had to wait they took the tick off, 20 minutes later we were home. I didn't mind waiting as long as it meant the tick was removed, and chloe would be ok (and it didn't cost $50) |
I couldnt believe it when they charged us all that money for 1 tick! But what can you do? You were lucky I guess ( or we were Very unlucky)!!! This is the same vet that took £150 from us just a couple of weeks ago to neuter Paddy so you would think they would go easy on us! |

I dont know! Sorry! LOL :yelrotflm |
Nicole...too much is what it is in dollars. I can see the vet charging for real things but I think that something like this should be a courtesy visit. Maybe charge for the antibiotics but nothing else. |
That sounds about right!!! |
Aparantly it is about $50!!! |

Revolution isn't a good product to ward off ticks. Its a convient product and i use it on my indoor cat, but its not 100% effection for 4 weeks against fleas and ticks. Try Frontline Plus and Interceptor |

I soak the end of a q-tip in alcohol and dab it on the tick. It usually works for me. |
