I am also from Jersey, South Jersey to be exact :) Although right now I am in VA for work but that is only until mid-August and then Diamond & I come home to NJ :) We should all ge together for a play date. Diamond is six months and about 2 pounds right now, she was the runt :) Be sure to check the regional forums because you can post for your specific area like the tri-state area (NJ/NY/DE, etc.) I am very close to Moorestown and Mount Laurel...how about you? I bet you are excited to get your pup! Hypoglycemia is a condition where the pup's sugar drops so low that he/she will appear lifeless or just unresponsive. It can happen from not eating/drinking much due to stress or traveling a lot when they are very young. Diamond had it once when she was around 10 weeks and she was in the hospital for almost 2 days. I almost lost her, her blood sugar was at 9! As you can imagine, I was a WRECK. The most important thing is to get a tube of nutrical (sugar supplement) or the syrup (I think it's called kyro syrup?) With the syrup, you put a little on their gums in the mouth and it will raise their blood sugar. With nutrical, I just put a little on my finger and Diamond licks it up, she loves it! Only give it to the pup if he/sher seems out of it or not really like themselves. At least, you know about it now before you get your pup. I had no knowledge of it prior to getting Diamond. You may want to get a book on Yorkies to help you too. Be sure to use a harness as opposed to a collar. Little dogs like Yorkies can get tracheal collapse from a lot of pulling/tugging on the collar. The harness is more gentle on them and more comfortable. You should check out Tiger's_Mom website, she has the CUTEST harnesses :) If you need anything let me know...I have had Diamond since March so it's been a few months but I have certainly learned a lot since then!!!! :animal36 |
Gracie actually came from a pet store ( never again ).....sleepless nights and kisses.......get a vet appointment right away....I use Little Falls Animal Hospital they are great and all love the dogs if you need a reccomendation. Gracie would love to have play date..... |
I live in CLifton but i highly highly recommend Ho-Ho-Kus Veterinary Hospital. That's where I last used to work and I know the vets personally. I trust them with anything. I used to work for a couple vets in Clifton, but i don't trust any as much as i trust the vets of ho-ho-kus. If your looking for a good vet i recommend going up there. its 20 minutes from here, but excellent and worth the drive! |
Congratulations! I am sure you are very excited about your new baby! Be sure to take lots of pictures and keep us updated!! and Gia is a VERY cute name!! Good Luck With Everything! |
We need to all get together with our babies and let them play & run free. I know there's a park over my way (3rd ward Park) Kellie if you take Van Houten all the way down you will run into it. I'm not sure if it's a dog park but they have a lake & ducks & all that sort of stuff (I always see a lot of dog owners in the park with their dogs) |

When you do take her out, be careful where you take her. She will not have all her shots yet. Try to avoid places with strange dogs. Lots of people like to take their new puppies to places like Petsmart. It's a perfect place for a new puppy to pick something up. I think socializing with people and animals is very important, you just have to be careful going about it before they are immunized for deadly diseases. You can take her outside to potty right away as long as it's not where unknown dogs are going too. Welcome to YT. I can't wait to see pictures. :) |
Hi Candy! Welcome to YT Sounds like you have gotten a tremendous amount of good advice. I'm just welcoming you to the forum :) |
