shedding? 1 Attachment(s) First of all I know Yorkies are not suppose to shed! I have a 9 month old female and even though she a akc registered to be full bred, I believe that she could be a mix. If you look at her pic you will see what I mean. I have put her on missing link about 3 months ago and her coat somewhat improved but she is still not growing hair on her head. She also is shedding quit a bit. I brush her everyday and ordered crown royal shampoo and still she is loosing quite a bit of hair. My question is, could it be her diet? The breeder I got her from had her on purina puppy chow and I kept her on that because I thought if I changed her diet I would have diarreah all over. Should I change her food will this stop the shedding? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance meeshue |
1 Attachment(s) i would deff say change the food its not a good one also your yorkie is VERY cute :D but she does look like a mix to me she has the same face as my chihuahua mabee they didnt even know another breed got her mother who knows i wouldnt care shes still gorgeous :D i lightened up the pic |
Thank you so much for your kind words. I do love her she is one of a kind! What food do you recommend? I heard alot of yt'ers use chicken soup! |
That is one very beautiful little girl you have :) |
i use nutro i think anything is a upgrade from purina puppy chow im sure other people will share there thoughts on food :D take a look around do a search put in "food" and see what you get :D |
I feed Lady the Nutro puppy and she loves it |
Thank you jager I think I will try that. |
Remember (not sure if you know already): you need to gradually change her food over. You'll need to mix the new food with the old over a few days until you ween out the old food.. If you just change the food with out mixing the two at first she can get sick from it. |
Thanks jager! I did know that and I will be very careful when changing her food, I don't want her to get sick in anyway. Not good for me or her. Thanks again |
Is she shedding, but still maintaining a full coat? Not long, but full? If she is not loosing hair or going bald in spots, then I would have to say that she probably is not a purebred, because yorkies don't shed and their hair does get long, or grow, like people. But upgrading her food will help keep the shedding down to a minimum and you still have one sweet little baby. |
She has a very full coat with no bald spots. She just sheds. I brush her to take out the loose hair but later in the day when she gets off her favorite pillow I see hair again. |
She is a cutie but I would agree that she looks more like a mix-Yorkie and Chi comes to mind. I had a puppy who looked exactly like that and the breeder really did not know she was a mix. Her sire was owned by someone else and he was a mix...but, no matter, I love that innocent face. I feed BilJac and RC puppy and my critters love it. I have tried Solid Gold, Artemesia, and goodness knows how many others but they seem to consistently eat that combo... |
What a cutie pie. Even if she is a mix she's beautiful. |
Your little pup is very cute -- but I agree, she doesn't look like a purebred Yorkie. What if she is part another breed that sheds? In this case, it may be very normal for her to shed some - and has nothing to do with anything else including her diet. Good luck- Carol Jean |
Chihuahuas do shed, so that will continue, but your puppy is a little doll. I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy her. They are all little miracles. :p |
I have to just tell you that she is cute as a button! She is going to just love you to dealth (that's the best part!!!) :) :) :) :) :) |
I came across this that tells which mixed breeds shed. It says that a Chi and Yorkie mix doesn't shed, but your pup does look like she has something else in her, but very cute nonetheless. I, too, would change her food. It may not make a difference in shedding, but will be better for her healthwise. I've been feeding Eukanuba for years, but am just now switching to Nutro Natural. Yorkie-Poo- This cross of the Yorkie and Poodle produces a non-shedding, soft curled puppy with a very sweet temperament. Borkie- This cross of the Yorkie and Bichon produces a non-shedding soft curled puppy with an easy going temperament Yorkahuahua- This cross of the Yorkie and Chihuahua produces a non-shedding coat that has a soft under coat and a courser overcoat. The temperament is generally playful and cuddly. Chi-A-Pom- This cross of the Chihuahua and Pomeranian produces a shedding puppy that can either have a short or double coat. Personality plus is the only way to describe this cross! Schnoodles- This cross of the Schnauzer and Poodle produces a non-shedding loyal, family dog. Generally great with children and a great companion dog. |
