If I understand it right there are two ways that yorkies are blonde. One is a gene that causes dilution of the saddle in which over the first year or two the saddle lightens to a blonde color, and then there is a gene in which the puppy is born golden, or blonde. I think that the color is pretty. I know of at least one line that was known to thow golds, but in her case, most of the puppies were very small and didn't survive. She said that everytime she tried to save a gold pup it just broke her heart. So I don't know if any one ever got a gold pup from her but that there were probably quite a few gold carriers out there. |
solid blonde Hi there! I have been researching yorkies like crazy, and I started out wanting the original pure bred classic tan and blue/silver yorkies. But after coming across a breeder that had a blondie I became obsessed with having a blonde yorkie. So I read up on them, and if you ever wanted to put your dog in competitions she would be disqualified because of her "unoriginal coloring". I also read that if a dog is any other color than the classic tan and blue/silver than it has to be because the breeder didnt have a pure yorkie, whether it was the mom or dad. Even those party yorkies that go for so much money are considered to be not pure bred and would be disqualified in any competition. Knowing how I am I thought this was going to change my mind about wanting a blonde yorkie, but it didnt, I dont plan on competing with my dog at all, I just want her for myself. So to answer your question, your dog is that color because either her mom or dad wasnt a pure bred yorkie, heck, it could have even been her grandma or grandpa that wasnt pure bred. To me it doesnt matter, the blonde ones are as beautiful as the "original colored" yorkies. I cant wait to get mine! |

Blondie Hi. I'm the mummy to two maniac yorkies. I've had a steel for the past 4 years and recently rehomed a 9 month old solid blonde.. she's nuts unlike my placid steel blue princess. I think she invented the term "on the ball" as I can't even have a bath without her throwing a ball in with me! :) Nice to come across a forum dedicated to Yorkies, heya guys x |
My yorkie is a total blonde. My fur baby is a male AKC registered yorkshire terrier who is a beautiful solid blonde. According to his AKC pedigree and verified by the breeder, his mother is blonde (shown as tan on the pedigree) and his father is the original black and tan. Both his Dam's parents are also listed as tan. His Sire's parents are listed as black and tan but the Dam lists "parti" as part of her colouring. This, I understand, means he can throw solid colours, like my blonde, and his progeny can do the same |
