| Are Mothball Crystals for Odour Effective? I just got my first Yorkie last weekend, and she has had several accidents. We went to the vet's on Monday, and I got a puppy information package. It says, "If your puppy has soiled on carpet, clean the area and then rub a small quantity (1/2 to 1 teaspoonful) of mothball crystals deep into the pile of the carpet. You should not be able to smell the mothballs when you walk into the room but your puppy will because his sense of smell is so strong. Reapply the mothball crystals every 5 to 7 days for a month. Do not clean with vinegar or ammonia that smell like urine to a dog." Has anyone used mothballs before and do they work? I assume mothballs are safe for dogs since the info package is from the vet's? I was told by the breeder that I could use vinegar and water. I told my mom that people said to use 50/50 water and vinegar, but she put less vinegar because she was afraid of it harming my dog, Angel. Angel still goes in some of the spots that I wiped with the mixture. Is it because the vinegar isn't strong enough? Thanks for any help you can give me! |

| Don't let the name fool you It's interesting that you got the information from a vet's office. Mothballs are toxic. I guess it is because you are using such a small amount and putting them deep into the carpet? Be very careful she doesn't ingest any of it and store them somewhere safe. I would feel better with the vinegar but I admit I am a worrier. Here's what the EPA has to say about mothballs... http://www.purdue.edu/dp/envirosoft/...e/mothball.htm Congratulations on getting your first yorkie!!!! Aren't they the best?

| I use water and vinegar after buying urine b gone, woolite pet oder remover, and couple three other kind and seems like the vinegar and water works just as well as any to me and much cheaper. But I liked the woolite better than any i've purchased because some stink so bad I hate to smell it while cleaning with it. woolite doesnt stink to me. doesnt smell that good but better than the rest. I've used vinegar to keep kizzy from chewing on books and boxes and now she never chews on my stuff. when she use to walked up to it and smelled the vinegar she just walked away now she dont even go there and try.

| There is an effective mix but I can't remember exactly what was in it. I have the recipe at home but I am at work. It had dawn and hydrogene peroxide and one othe ingredient. Maybe someone else can help with that third ingredient but anyways it works great getting out pee pee smells.
