I've actually heard the opposite. I've heard that greenies and raw hide bones are bad, and the safe substitution for clean teeth and fresh breath were nylabone's. Does anyone else have info on this? I'd like to know since Bella has a few nylabones.  |
Romeo's mommy - those are cute toys! |

yorkie toys I buy all my little ones toys from petedge.com or jeffers.com they have a lot of good things in there, just order the book it's free or go to the web sites. All my little yorkies loves when UPS comes they know they get something new Dragonfly |
liltrist- we really like simply fido. romeo likes to tear up stuffed animals and with these i don't worry that he will get poisoned or choke. they hold up very well and we are very happy with them. paws up for us.:) |
awww Mom come on--that's half the fun--tearing it up! Mine chew up the toys too. I, like you, just buy the cheap ones and just toss them when they get torn and get them a new one. I have tried some more expensive pet store toys and they really didn't last any better than the cheap ones. They love to bite on them, shake them and tear on them with their teeth--makes them feel tough! |

I think it just depends on the dog. Some are destructive, some are not. Penny's joy in life is to gut a new stuffed animal. She will puncture the squeaker, rip it out, then rip out all stuffing... and wa-lah! She has the perfect toy! For some reason, she'd rather play with the leftover "puppet." I know many dogs destroy the toy or puncture the squeaker and are done with it. Lucky for us, she loves the shell. We actually have to watch her with other dogs' toys because I know she will ruin them. |
Regarding the Nylabones, for my little one everyone recommended the "Gumabone" variety - nothing to choke on! He likes it, but doesn't love it all the time. Buddy just ripped up a stuffed octopus today in about 30 seconds. The only toys he loves to death and hasn't destroyed (seem really tough!) are: 1. Big Mean Kitty by http://www.FatCatInc.com - they have TONS of great toys - you can even buy your little one "chicken lips" - they are very tough toys - the Big Mean Kitty I have for Buddy is made of very tough canvas. He LOVES it. 2. The "Petstages" puppy toys are good - though I did have one soft one rip. They have one that has lots of knotted pieces of canvas at the ends and buddy loves chewing on the strings - I guess they're like shoelaces. His favorite toy by far is his little "Bad Cuz" - here is a cool site that did tests of dog toys for durability for Boston Terriers - I don't think a Yorkie could cause as much damage! http://www.boston-terrier-challenge....-toy-test.html |

I pick up stuffed baby toys at garage sales (only clean ones). I think that baby toys are well made. Reuger really likes the ones that have things that rattle in them. If he tears them up I don't worry about it because I only spent a quarter or fifty cents for it. |
Toys I also buy American Kennel Club toys -- Kasey loves the small and the medium sized squirrels (the latter is almost as big as she is!), and somehow their squeakers have remained intact. She's got a real talent for extracting squeakers! I found these at the Pet Supermarket and they've held up better than most of her other toys.... Good luck! |
Buddy doesn't tear up his stuffed animals, but we give him lots of chews rawhide and nylabone. I read in a yorkie book that Nylabomes are ok and my vet said they were I would make sure your baby has lots of stuff to chew up and maybe he will take it easy on the stuffed animals;) |
2 Attachment(s) Hi! Ginger doesn't like most rubber toys either. But Pet Stages makes a couple of toys with ribbons running through rubber tubes, and one with a robe tied to a rubber star-shaped thingy. I found them accidentally, and they are her favorite toys. She chews and chews on the ribbons with little damage. Looking for link... Caution...some of their toys are transparent blue or pink rubber others are solid colored plastic. Ginger has been able, in no time, to destroy and consume the plastic. The transparent blue stuff lasts forever! The attached pics from their website are toys that have lasted forever, and she loves the ribbons and ropes (she doesn't like regular rope toys either). Hope this helps. Here's the link:http://www.petstages.com/default2.asp P.S. If you decide to try any of their toys, pm me with which ones, we've tried a lot of them so I know what stands up to serious chewing. (Ginger has even destroyed a KONG!) |

Careful, my vet and trainer have both told me that the stuffing in dog toys is easier to digest and DOES NOT expand in their tummies. Stuffing in children's toys often expands and or clumps when wet. This can lead to serious blockage issues. |
