Tiffany fell off the back of the couch! About 10 minutes ago. She always like to sit on the back (the high part) of the couch and I always tell her to get down because it makes me nervous. And she is clumsy. But before I could say anything she fell right off. I had a mini heart attack! I ran and scooped her up and moved all her legs to make sure they were ok and she seems to be fine. I dont know how she didnt get hurt. It was probably a 3 foot fall. Has this ever happened to anyone else?? She is so tiny, I cant believe she is ok!! |
yes that happened to lexi 3 weeks ago.. she limped for a day.. i was so nervous.. she just sprained it, thankgod she's ok.... just keep a watch on her.. im sure she will be fine |
Yep, that is heart-attack causing when they do that stuff. My Yorkie onced jumped out of my arms in the front yard as he saw a small rodent like animal and he landed on hard concrete as I was standing out front in the driveway talking to a neighbor. My heart stopped, I checked him out and fortunately after a very expensive visit and overnight stay at an ER animal hospital, he had just sprained a leg. Scared me to death:exclaim: Glad your wee one is okay. |
I know that must have scared the life out of you!:ghug: Glad she is ok! Gidget, my older baby, always sleeps in the bed with us. Chloe, who only weighs almost 4 pounds, doesn't b/c I am sooo scared something bad will happen!!! |
Yes and you always have a heart attack. Mac & Mellie sleep with me, my bed is about 4 feet off the ground. They make me so nervous when they decide they need to check out a noise and go diving off the bed. I always have to get up and make sure they are alright. |
It happens to Ginger all the time and it doesn’t even faze her…she’s like a cat/monkey. I think if she were hurt she would let you know. Is she crying or does she seem to be in pain? |
Lex had a fall like that a month back. Scared the beejebus out of me. But after a day or two of limping he was fine. |

Moe I know what you mean...My baby Moe Fell today from the top of the staircase clean to the bottom, looked like he was gone be quite hurt at the bottom, nothing i could do to catch him as it happened sooo fast! He held his bad leg out straight , and I thought oh my whats wrong with that? I felt him and moved things gently, nothing felt or sounded wrong inside.....he limped away, didn't want to know me.....somehow I think he blames me, or maybe he is embarrased.....anyways..yes I thought Id be on here today with the sad tale of losing Moe to that fall, thank God our Yorkies have that bit of Rotti in them! |
Kristi I can imagine the scare you had, with Tiffany being so tiny. I am so glad she is Ok. I remember when i first got Cali and I was out front with the neigbor lady and her kids and I told them they could only hold her if they were sitting down. Well they sat down real nice and Cali jump right out of my arms onto the grass. She was fine but boy was I embarrassed. |
oh my, I am glad Tiff is okay. How small is she anyway? |
She will be one June 22, and she is 2lbs 7 oz. |

I'm glad to hear Tiffany wasn't hurt. It is always gut wrenching when these guys take flying leaps or just plain fall. Short of keeping them crated at all times, the best we can do is watch them and hope they learn from the mishaps. Sissy won't go down stairs since she fell down them the 2nd week we had her. In fact, she won't go down any stairs. Yet, she doesn't hesitate to take flying leaps off the couch or our high bed. Shes a little bigger than Tiffany, but still a very small 4 lbs (if she regained the ounces she lost being sick). |
I've gotten used to Bailey jumping off the sofa (she has stairs, but if she's in a hurry, she'll jump off from wherever she is), but I'm constantly hovering on the edge of cardiac arrest when she manages to get on something higher. She seems to have little concern about jumping from almost any height. A couple of things we all learn with Yorkies - 1) They're a lot tougher than they look, and 2) In spite of that, they're still pretty fragile. |
1 Attachment(s) Poor Tiffany!! These guys and gals have got to be careful - how do you think Frodo got this cast??? Jumping/falling from a 5'4 platform! Luckily, ((just)) two broken bones in his leg/foot, and he gets the splint/cast off in another 2-3 weeks. I'm glad tiffany's okay!! :D |

Im glad Tiffany is okay and didnt get hurt. CHloe did this once. OUr couch is pushed up against a wall and its right in front (actually blocking) our fire place. So when chloe fell off the back she sort of landed in the fireplace(no fire of course but it was dirty) and it scared the crap out of me. BUt she walked away like nothing had happened. |
Mine did the exact same thing -- I have learned one thing -- anytime your pup is doing anything that scares you - never yell at them. This will only distract them and may, in itself, cause them to fall. Or it may keep them from attaining that "perfect landing" that your and my dog somehow managed to do. Just walk quietly over and "grab them." Lucky us! Carol Jean |
