Is there a difference???? Having worked in medicine for more than 35 years, I would think that a "general exam" is the same thing as a "physical examination." Either of these might mean that the puppy (or dog) has no particular problem that you are aware of, but rather that you are just bringing her in for a check up.

When I got my pup - I told my vet's office that I had a new puppy and wanted to bring him in for a checkup....which they did and he was fine!

I'm sure they checked more than I'm aware of - but they did check his heart, his lungs, his eyes, nose, throat, testicles, feet, hips, knees, back, general structure, sense of well being, etc. etc. etc. There was no need for blood work or any x-rays, of course, at this time ---because he had no problems.

I think with a new puppy - you can just explain your situation - and the vet will give him an appropriate examination.

I got a copy of the exam from the vet, and I noticed that she didn't check Angel's anal sacs, which is #11 on the paper. Is this normally checked? The following things were checked and have a check mark for the box "Appear(s) Normal":

1. Ears
2. Eyes
3. Mouth
4. Glands
5. Cardiovascular
6. Respiratory
7. Gastrointestinal
8. Urinary/Genital
9. Neurological
10. Musculoskeletal
12. Skin, Hair, Nails

the anal sacs don't need to be checked if your pup isn't having a problem with them. believe me, if she had a problem with them, you'd definately know

Just make sure you ask a lot of questins i took my baby in for his first check up yesterday and i feel as though they rushed me out the door. I was persistant in asking questions but they seemed to talk around them i will never go back there again!!!!! Just be picky who you go to!:p

What questions did you ask? I didn't ask that many. I ask the breeder a lot of questions though.

Well i'm super paranoid and this was the breeders first litter she wasn't really able to answer a lot of my questions. I asked the vet about liver shunt genetic diseases heart probs thins like that they said it would cost thousands of dollar to do the tests for that stuff they were terrible :mad: :thumbdown so i'm looking for a new vet. If n-e one knows a good vet in salt lake utah let me know:confused: otherwise i think i will take them to banfield in petsmart they were really helpful in answering my questions over the phone!:p :D :aimeeyork :animal-pa
