Puppy's Sick & need advise, Please help!!! 1 Attachment(s) Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and need some advise. I have had my yorkie puppy, Nala for about a month and a half and she has always had trouble when she drinks water. She starts to sneeze and it sounds like she has fluid in her nose/lungs (i guess). At first I thought it was just from drinking the water too fast, but now she does it out of the blue and stuff comes out of her nose and she starts rubbing on the ground. I can tell that it really hurts her when it happens. I also noticed when I pick her up she makes wheezing sounds. Does anyone know what could be wrong with her?? I am taking her to the vet on saturday, but I was wondering if anyone had a clue as to why she is doing this? Is it normal? Thanks for the help! Jessica:animal-pa |
I dont know what it could be but she definitely sounds like she needs to see a vet |
She needs to see a vet before it gets worse. Please take her to the vet. Welcome to YT! Your baby is adorable :) |
thanks! I was hoping they had openings today but the earliest appt I can get is Friday or Saturday. I am so worried about her! |
did you explain to them the problem. if its something serious the vet should be able to squeeze you in |
I did try explaining it to them, but they didn't seem to be worried by the symptoms like I was, so at first I thought I was just overreacting, but it is not getting any better. |
If you are really worried I would go to another vet or an emergency vet. |
This only happens when she drinks? Does the water come out of her nose after drinking? Have you looked at the roof of her mouth to make sure she doesn't have a small cleft in her palate? A cleft palate is a hole in the roof that links the mouth with the nose and lungs. Sometimes it can be seen by examination, but other defects are further back. |
Has she had this problem since you got her? If so it can probably wait another 2 or 3 days. If it just started I would take her to any vet that I could get her in. It sounds like she may have an upper respritory infection. I hope all is well. She is sure cute. Welcome to YT. |
:wavey: Welcome to YT She's very cute! I wouldn't wait, I'd find a different Vet, so she could be seen right away. Please keep us posted. :) :) :) |
It sounds like the 'wheezing' you are refering too is a reversed sneeze, which is absolutely normal. The problem with your little baby though is that she doesn't it after she drinks, which means should could possibly suck the water into her lungs as she does the reverse sneezing. This could cause many problems, such as pneumonia. I would get her to the vet ASAP and I would also start keeping a log of what she does when she drinks, how many times, etc. It always helps to have a ton of accurate info when trying to diagnose. Best of luck! |
At first it only happened after she finished drinking, but now it happens more often than that. I will have to check in her mouth today to see if I can find what you are talking about. Thanks for the advise! |
Kali is doing the exact same thing. I almost freaked out the first time she did it. She is going to the vet tomorrow and I am asking them about it. I will post what I find out. I think it is from drinking. Sometimes it happens immedietly after drinking. Other times within about 30 minutes. But it does scare her and she comes right to me and is breathing with her mouth open. My hubby thinks she has only been drinking from a bowl for a couple of weeks and just gets it up her nose. |
Thanks! Please keep me posted as to what you find out. I am so worried and won't stop worrying until her appt on friday afternoon!!! Someone told me to try and use the bottle water feeders, but since we have another bigger dog already I have doggie bowls throughout the house so i don't think she will use a bottle water feeder. |
My mom's maltese does this often after drinking water. She doesn't have any health problems, but I do think she is snorting up water. She also does it every now and again when not drinking. We just call it reverse sneezing. Is this what she is doing? http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIP...eSneezing.html She is positively adorable, by the way! |
