I have been going through the same thing and I have decided to have a DNA test for my little Amos. I should have the results in a week or two. It is cost but if I paid for a purebred and he is not I want a refund of sorts. I will never give up Amos but I don't like being scammed. I will let you know the DNA out come. |

Bigger Yorkies 2 Attachment(s) My bear came with papers and he grew to 17lbs but as he approached his final year he was down to 15 lbs at 17 years. My Daisy cqame from real tiny parents but they only had 2 pups one tennie tiny and Daisy. Daisy is now 17 and wieghs 13lbs. The bigger the yorkie the bigger their heart! |
The vet will do it. They draw the blood and sent it off. You can also get the kit your self online but you will have to take the kit to the vet to draw the blood. The website its: Dog DNA Test | Mixed Breed Analysis | Canine Breed Testing and at the home page click buy now button at the top. The cost is 124.00 and the vet charged my 18.00 to draw the blood. I got mine online and took it to the vet because I did not know the vet also had the kits. Either way it cost the same. But its easier to let the vet do it. Hope this helps. |
As soon as I get a little play money....I might do it... just for $h**ts and giggles... very interesting. thanks. |
2 things here: 1. AKC charges $35 to $40 for doing the DNA testing. I do not know if they will DNA a dog that isn't registered with them but I suspect not. To do their DNA test, they send you a kit and it is just like you see on the CSI shows, swab the inside of the cheeks. You send it back to them and they work up the results. You do not have to wait for them to ask for DNA testing. If you can afford to have it done and want it done, do it. 2. When I got my first Yorkie, Pirogue, and he started getting so big, I was very angry at people for saying he wasn't a Yorkie. Just because of his size?!!! How stupid! What does the size have to do with his breed? Not a thing! I hadn't planned on showing him or even trying to show him. Why did they have to be so mean? I was no threat to anyone, I just wanted to love my dog and it sure wouldn't have hurt my feelings to have ANYONE say how cute he was. Even if they qualified it by saying "even though he's so big." I know the feeling. People look at Amos and say what a cute yorkie mixed. I say he is purebred and they say but he is so big. Sometimes they say I must have gotten scammed. It just show how much they DON"T know about the breed but think they do. The website I gave earlier will do the swab test for less too. But I decided to go with the blood test. I guess it dosen't matter. Although, Amos's test is not finished yet, I'm pretty confident he is yorkie. |

Well, you need to take a look at my mutant, Jesse. He could be Sully's twin. His hair is like piano wire, he is 10+ lbs. at 9 months and has a box head. Then, take a look at my female, age 4, hair like silk, baby doll face... :) They are polar opposites. I never really worry because it's not about the size in the case of Yorkies, because they are beautiful no matter how big or small. My boy is so loving, and like ILoveBingoo's baby, Bingo, he is a hunter. My female was fired from lizard hunting for non-performance.. :) I love holding Jumbo Jesse, because it's the equivalent of holding a large newborn baby. Jesse also has an incriminating white spot on his chest, and I never got his registration so who really knows the deal. The original owners got him from a pet store, and we all know they can be the worst at selling mixed and sickly pups. I actually rescued him from a family with terror toddlers, so he comes with a story. This makes me love him even more. Your baby is beautiful, whether a teacup or teapot. Only blessings...Lisa, Lilly and Jumbo Jesse. |
Papers or not, Yorkies, like people come in all sizes, "colors" and personalities (might be a good line to use). Zack and Zeke are two entirely different yorkies but I love them to death. Since their rescues, they did not cost a bunch of money. Unconditional love both ways is all that matters to me, nothing like being noisily, excitable and warmly greeted whenever you come home. |
