OK to take home puppy before 12 weeks? Is it okay to take a puppy home before 12 weeks? The breeder I have chosen said it may be able to go home around 10 weeks depending on how it is doing. Should I still wait for 12, I know a lot of people say they need 12. |
Have you had experience with yorkie puppies in the past? If not then I would say wait, but if you have then I personally see nothing wrong with it. Those who get them at 6 to 8 weeks have a lot of problem, but I don't thinki they do at 10 weeks. |
I've had a lab puppy at 8 weeks, but not a Yorkie (this is my firstand I'm so excited!). Is it just that they are so small and require so much attention? I work out of an office in my house and would probably keep her in the room with me at all times. |
If he is eating fine and his stools are formed, I think 10 weeks is just fine, especially since you are a stay at home mom. I would recommend reading up on hypoglycemia is all. Many will say 12 weeks, but all of mine have been 8 or 9 weeks (I am here with them all day and am experienced with little dogs). I sure would hate to miss out on the 8 to 12 week stage. They grow so fast, I want every possible day that I can get. |
Not a stay at home mom, I'm a guy! I'm running my business out of my house until I can find some decent office space, probably within a year. My employees work at their own houses too, so it all works out. |
Sorry, about the sexist remark. :D |
It is so hard to wait until a puppy is 12 weeks to take them home!!!!!!!! We brought Hobbs home at 8 weeks, but I have had lots of experience with yorkies and my husband was home all day to look after him. So, I guess it really depends on the situation!!!!! Where are you getting your puppy from? Do you still have your lab?? My husband really wants a lab. I would be interest in hearing from you about how the lab and yorkie get along. Good luck with your little one! |

Malibu is our first yorkie. I had no idea you were supposed to wait so long. I thought the average age for any dog is 6 weeks. We took him home at 5 1/2 weeks...We didn't have any problems though! |

The longer they are with mom, the better. I'd make sure the pup was perfectly healthy first. Also, I wouldn't take a pup younger than 8 weeks. JMO |
I live in the UK and here it is normal for people to get heir pups at about 8 weeks,I have had mine at 6 weeks, 7 weeks and 9 weeks. I had no problems :) |
I think you will be fine!!! We got both of our girls at 8 weeks and never had a problem with either of them at all.... Where are you in Texas?? We LOVE Texans on here.... |

Now that I say that just wait you'll get some rare monster lab and blame me...lol. No, I'm kidding, I have known one person who just thinks labs are overly hyper but I just think she didn't spend any time with the puppy at all. I'm in Vance, right beside Tuscaloosa. Its at the Mercedes plant exit if you know where that is. I got Reagan in Hoover, exit 10 on I-459 to be exact. |
