would you be willing to share a little

I was just wondering how people would feel about sharing their patterns for clothing for these little guys. I know that many of us have the talent and our own ideas we have tried. I also know from looking around at the fabric stores there is not much available as far as patterns. I would be willing to share mine if others would share with me as well. I have a a couple of dress patterns but would like to get more.

How would you all feel about doing a community pattern bank or something. Just an idea

SoCalyorkiLvr 04-12-2005 02:31 PM

I would love it. Do they have patterns in the regular pattern books? We could probably make a pattern by tracing a vest we already own even. I don't have any patterns but would support the idea for sure!

Marlee 04-12-2005 03:08 PM

:animal-sm That was my problem. :( I have looked through the pattern books here like simplicity, buttericks etc, and the only had one for a jacket, and I was not impressed to say the least. For mine I have used patterns I have traced from clothing I already bought for Bridget. :) The ones I have are simple but very cute and can change easily with diffrent fabric or pattern.
I really hope people will want to do this because I have seen stuff on this site I would love to make for my furbaby.

eensor 04-12-2005 04:19 PM

I don't have any patterns but I would love to have ome easy ones. I don't sew well, but I think I could do it if I had a simple pattern. If you don't mind sharing with me, I'd really appreciate it! Sorry I don't have any to share back!

schatzie 04-12-2005 04:25 PM

I have a Simplicity pattern # 8928 uncut and also a McCall's M4686 one pattern cut on.

Anybody is more than welcome to borrow it if needed. :D

(If you go online it will show all the stuff these both patterns make)

I think its a great idea. I've been looking on the internet for patterns(mainly t-shirts and such) and couldn't find any. I'm really considering making one up if I do and it turns out ok I'll be happy to give it up. I also have a couple of simplicity patterns, this is the only one I've tried but it really turned out kind of cute(it is a coat though).

ZoeysMom2005 04-12-2005 05:23 PM

It did turn out cute. :o

chloeandj 04-12-2005 06:01 PM

HI, I'm looking for dress patterns. What do you have already and what are you looking for? I have coat patterns, costumes, and a few more. I will have to dig through the drawer and see what else I have, I can't remember.

I'd love to see some of everyone's creations, please post more pictures!

Your baby is soooo adorable!!! I love his big fluffly head!

Does anyone know how to make those stiff ribbon topknot show bows. I know there is a solution you put the ribbon in to make it stiff. Anybody make their own???
Thanks

eensor 04-13-2005 04:05 AM

Jodi, there is a solution for making the ribbons stiff. I can't remember what it is called, but you get it at a craft store or maybe the craft dept. at WalMart.

Marlee 04-13-2005 08:12 AM

Oh I am excited. I think we could pull together quite a collection if everyone was willing. I know my closet can never be to full of cutie pie clothes for Bridget.

Yorkie Clothes

:) This is a little off topic and I apologize for intruding on this post, but I was wondering if those of you who could sew would be willing to help others of us who are sewing challenged (that would definately be me! :p ) by making clothes for our puppies too. Perhaps we could work out something like we could by the material and supplies (including enough for your puppy too) if you would sew. Or, we could send reasonable monetary compensation, if that would be preferred. Sorry, I just can't afford $30 - $40 per yorkie outfit. I don't even spend that on my kids clothes unless it is for something special! :D LOL Just a thought.

aimee 04-13-2005 09:02 AM

Amen Tara. I can't sew to save my life! My mom was looking into making some things for me and we found that after buying all the materials, etc, paying to ship them to me from her (she's in Nebraska) that it was actually cheaper to buy from barkingdogclothes.com. I'd still like to learn to sew, but I don't see that happening any time soon. I admire everyone who does, I tried it when I was younger and got SO frustrated when I made mistakes, I'm scared to try again! :)

Marlee 04-13-2005 09:12 AM

I can sew for others!!!

I cannot speak for the others but I would be more than happy to make clothes for more than just my dog. Heck I already clothe Bridget and Crystal (my daughters cat). I guess it just depends on how you want your stuff. I am a girlie girl, ok at least my dog and cat are...lol which means I do lots of frilly lace and bows... sorry boys, just dont have a boy of my own yet

tarawood 04-13-2005 09:15 AM

You're Right

Aimee -- You are exactly right --- I hadn't thought of that, by the time you pay shipping of the fabric and materials, and then shipping of the outfit back to you, that would really add up! So perhaps those that sew would be willing to make others outfits at a reasonable price say $8 - $15 a piece or so + shipping (more for really complicated things)? Also, thanks for the link, I'm going to check out their site now. Did you like the items you bought from them?

tarawood 04-13-2005 09:22 AM

Thanks Marlee

Marlee,

That would be so great! I will PM you later about the clothes! That's so cute you make cat clothes too! Does the cat leave them on? I don't know if our cat Cocoa would even let you put them on her, but I'm sure my daughter would give it a try! :D

chloeandj 04-13-2005 09:27 AM

Here's something I just did...

I was looking for a simple dress pattern and was not able to find one, I have a dress pattern but I just didn't care for how detailed it was. So I bought this pink dress at target and then I traced the pattern onto paper and made the orange flowered one for Tinkerbell. It was extremely simple!

I would also be willing to do some sewing for others. I sell dog clothes in my ebay store so I can get quite busy at times and it's slower at other times. It does get quite expensive to buy the material, pay for ebay fees and ship, that's why people have to charge more on ebay. I would definately not charge as much as my ebay store if they were purchased directly from me.

Marlee 04-13-2005 09:31 AM

Yes, she keeps them on unless she can somehow wiggle out of them. She must figure it is a lost cause at this point though since as soon as Jewell notices she has no clothes, she puts another outfit right away. Funny thing is they almost look at you like
:D geez... again, i just got out of this

tarawood 04-13-2005 09:33 AM

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell is too cute in that dress!! And the little daisy clip in her hair matches!! I'm so jealous! :p LOL

Thanks eensor!
I will look for it today. Do you make your own bows?
Jodi

Tuck'smom 04-13-2005 09:40 AM

Definitely sewing challenged here too. That would be awesome if some of you incredibly talented people could help us out. Even though my baby is a little boy, I would love to get some more things he can wear - I saw a t-shirt on one site (I forget where) that said "Bitches Love Me". I thought it was just adorable but at $20 plus the shipping etc. you get up close to $30 or so and since I just bought my house(where I could finally get my puppy) my budget is also rather tight!

Hi tarawood

I would be willing to make this dress for you. Probably $10 would cover materials and shipping. I have enough fabric to make about 2 more of these. As long as your dog is under about 5 lbs.

The hair clip is just a button that I attached to a rubber band. I think I even have another daisy button I could send you.

Jodi

I'm loving the clothes I got from her, they are stitched really well and my friend who sews says that they are well made. They did shrink a little in the wash, but I was expecting that. Sandy and Tia look really cute in their clothes from her. Tia also wears a lot of shirts from Build A Bear - about five dollars a piece and they fit her really well right now :)

I bought a fairy princess outfit for bears at Michael's for Tinkerbell. It is so cute!! BUt it is tight across the back so I will need to adjust it. Does Build a Bear have clothes in different sizes? I bought the outfit at Michael's because it was only $7 and that is cheaper than I could have bought the material for. And the wings are adorable! Does Build a Bear have a website? $5 is a good price! How big is Tia?

aimee 04-13-2005 10:00 AM

Yup, their web page is http://buildabear.com

My daughter has a cat from there, and she shares the clothes with Tia ;) Two for one! So far I have only tried the shirts and sweaters and they fit great. I believe it's all one size.

tarawood 04-13-2005 10:03 AM

Build a Bear

Jodi, I PM-ed you about Tinkerbell's outfit. Too bad we don't have a build-a-bear here in Lubbock. Our wal-mart has a knock-off build-a-bear area in the front that has the animals that you can stuff and clothes in it, I wonder if they would work? Has anyone tried those from wal-mart?

Hickey007 04-14-2005 12:08 PM

I would be willing to sew some things for others but you have to give me some time first. I'm not exactly new to the sewing thing but am not the best. I started making quilts about 4 years ago or so, but the ones I made only had straight lines. My sewing is good enough for me (and my dog to wear) but I don't know about others, especially to get any kind of money for even if its just the cost of materials. Give me some time to practice with Reagan and maybe get a few more patterns then I'll let you know. Also I made a fleece coat like the one Reagan was wearing in the picture earlier only its light tan. Anyway its too big for Reagan. She weighs about 5 lbs and is 11-12" long(neck to talk). So if you think it might fit your dog I'll give it to you for free. It's just sitting around my house going to waste. Just let me know.

Hickey007 04-14-2005 12:26 PM

Chloeandj-The dress turned out really cute. The puppy in the dress also turned out really cute.

I don't have kids so I've never made any before but I wonder if doll clothes patterns would work, at least for strappy dresses(I don't know how big they are). Or baby clothes patterns at least for a guide. I know that the problem would be the arms sticking out instead of down but if its a sleeveless dress it should work.

Also someone mentioned the shirts that said things. I think I've heard of people using like baby onesies and such you could try getting a pack of those and making you're own custom shirts with fabric paint and rhinestones. You could even tear them for a rocker look or put your pups own pawprints on it. I bet they would come out real cute and be fun too. You just may want to check around to see if I'm crazy or if people really do put their dogs in the baby shirts.

Victri 04-14-2005 04:43 PM

Gosh guys I would be willing to donate anything to get Sydney some clothes, I don't have time to sew and some of the prices on clothing for her are really out there. Just let me know the amount and where to send it.

This is so cool, wish I had time to take it up and try. Of course they would probably be not fit to wear. LOL

Jodi that little dress for your baby is so cute I would love to have one for Sydnee.
