Maybe I need to explain some things ive said I hope people dont take things I say the wrong way. Some times things just dont come out right for everyone to understand, since we dont really know each other its hard to really understand what one means sometimes. When I say things about people buying clothes for their puppies, I don't mean you shouldnt. I know some people like dressing their puppies up and I think its fine and I think some are cute, its just that I am not the type to do that. I love my yorkie but I dont take her everywhere I go. People are just different. I see other peoples puppies dressed and think oh, that is so cute. But its just not for me. If you like to do that I feel its your money, your time and no bodys business. I love looking at puppies and I think most all of em are so darn cute and I like watching dog shows and the competitions. Matter of fact, I use to work some when they had the dog show where I live. I worked and the concession stand and loved to be there. It was lots of fun. I hold Kizzy, take up lots of time with her but I'm just not into dressing her. But it is cute for those that do that and I know some live in very cold places and have to put clothes on theirs to take them outside in winter. Just wanted to explain myself. I really believe in live and let live pretty much. more money than sense is just an old saying that means to me, that some people just have lots of money to use frivolously and others dont. We live very comfortably and we are very happy, but we are not into animals much. Just one puppy for us is about all I think I want at one time where some like to have a lot. So everyone, just enjoy your life and animals or whatever because life is short. But my brother breeds and sells big dogs in MN. He loves, loves, loves his dogs. He has always had several dogs, including huge 175 lb ones in his house. I love him but I dont like being around his big dogs as I am scared of dogs if they get higher than my knees. So see, even in siblings , everyone is different. Have a good day everyone. |
Kizzy great post!! It was sincere...and that is obvious to anyone reading it! |
yes, I was very sincere in my post. thank you for understanding. |
I'm not sure what prompted this but I tend to agree with you about clothes. We will put a shirt or sweater on our dog but anything after that becomes disturbing to me. Dresses, hats, shoes, costumes, etc are a little weird to me unless it's for some special event. But like you said, live and let live. |
As others have said, it's hard to know exactly what we mean sometimes when we are writing our words instead of speaking them to someone. It's the inflection in our voice or the smile or lack of on our face or so many things that are there when we are face to face to a person and is not there on the computer. It's also difficult to say everything you mean without writing a "novel". I look at my own posts sometimes and they seem to be very long and drawn out. I think it's because I am a very expressive person (or so I am told). Everyone tells me I couldn't talk at all if they tied my hands. I use my hands a lot and also facial expressions. And I do talk a LOT. So forgive me if my posts are long. I'm just trying to explain myself and it's difficult to do without all my "props." We all have different views on things and that doesn't mean we can't express them and still be friends or at least civil. I love to hear other peoples views and opinions. Sometimes they may even change my mind on a subject, sometimes not but that doesn't mean I have to change their's either. I have good friends and relatives that have very different opinions on some subjects than me and they include but are not limited too: politics, religion, abortion, alcohol, raising children, spending money, even our pets but we respect each other's differences and it certainly doesn't harm out friendship. I am very diverse. I am what some may call "conservative" on some subjects and "liberal". I hate those terms, but unfortunately, some people try to box us into one group or another. See what I mean. I just can't make it "short and sweet." Sorry! |
I understand what you're saying and I understood it the first time you said it (on the other post) but I was afraid it might be taken the wrong way. Hopefully you didn't get too much flak about it. Tatum has exactly one piece of clothing. It's a leopard print jacket that I bought only because it was so darn cute. She really doesn't "need it" weatherwise. When it does actually get really cold here (nowhere near what some of you experience), she just runs out to do her business as quickly as possible - 99% of the time without a jacket. She also doesn't even wear her hair up in a topknot all the time because the way her and Stormie play, her hair has gotten broken off too often right at the topknot which gives her a long bang look that won't go up in the topknot the next time. So we give it a rest most of the time unless we take her somewhere. It's okay if you don't dress your furbaby up. Doesn't mean you love them any less. Everyone's different. |
My girls are naked all day. But I sure love to see other pups in clothes!:D |

PS. Same with the topnot. We go over Grandbitch's house and she says, "Oh, that's probably giving her a headache." And then she takes it out. |
Chachi and Jewels are usually naked. Every now and then I put clothes on them but not everyday. |

Whatever happened, I'm sure that those that needed to read this will and will understand. Yes, it is hard to express all that you want on a computer. I know that I've offended people before but that's just my straight forward attitude about things. People don't see your smile when you're joking about things or your laugh when you post. Things are taken out of context all the time but hang in there! As people get to know you better, they'll understand what kind of poster you are. I think that people have finally realized this about me just as I've learned about others. |
I completely agree with you. I do think that some of the items are cute and fun but really dont understand the shoes and hats?? They seem kind of funny on when you see them walking in the shoes. I love the sweaters. Brody gets cold in the winter and we put a sweater on him in Feb and March to keep him warm. With him being a boy he will probably remain naked this summer. Still trying to figure out if I want to do puppy bangs or top knot. ;) |
I dont go over board on clothes, I do put them on her in the winter and actually I just washed up all her winter clothes and put them away for the summer. Kloey dont wear a bow everyday either, just when I feel like putting it in! Nice post! |

KizzysMom - that was a wonderful post - and you did explain yourself very well. I am a lot like you. When I first got my Yorkie - it was the dead of winter - and I did get him a couple outfits (he looked cute in them), but he immediately outgrew them. Now summer is here and I really don't put clothes on him very often. He has a couple T-shirts that he might wear occasionally, but not much more than that. My dog is a dog - and I love dogs - and I love him being that way. He is as cute as a little guy can be, and, I'm sure you all know how much enjoyment he is for me. I have had dogs all my life and never will be without one (or two). I have had many different sized dogs, but smaller ones are far more appropriate for me now. I have a Bichon and a Yorkie - and enjoy both of them so much. **** My dogs wear something occasionally -- but not often. We have freezing winters, so, of course, they have their jackets that they wear then -- if we are outside for any length of time. Again - I enjoyed your post. Carol Jean |

I'm a doggie dressing phanatic, mainly because my dog made me that way..lol...I started with a couple of cute things when I got her and she loved it. She is so prissy and girly. Now when we want to go out, she will just stand there all naked, then she'll run into my closet where her drawer is, and she will grab something and bring it over for me to put on her. She likes it. So no complaints here. |

That's partially my reason too. I like how Tatum's hair flows and don't want to cover it up! ;) |
I have two little clothes maniacs too. They love their clothes, I can't open any mail thats not in a regular envolpe in front of them........they go crazy thinking its a new dress and they are usually right:rolleyes: Angie |
I think it's nice, for a change, to hear from the folks who DON'T like to dress their dogs. Like you say...different strokes for different folks. I think it's ridiculous, myself, and yet....I already have a small pile of outifts started. :D I'll be honest and admit...I'm looking forward to "playing" with this aspect of having a small dog, mostly because I'm a very girly-girl myself, and I never had a daughter to dress up and pink and bows. I know I'll get no end of flack for it :D, but I'll take it with good humor, because in my heart I'll know they're RIGHT--a dog is a DOG!!! But if she doesn't mind, and I hope she doesn't, I figure a little dress-up play really doesn't hurt anyone! ;) It's just for fun, and obviously on whatever level fills a need some of us have. And those of you who don't find it "fun", or feel that need---I enjoy the pics of your little ones, au naturale, with their beautiful coats, JUST as much. And I also just love seeing these little guys rip around and get dirty and....ACT LIKE DOGS!!! :p |
The only time I dress Baby is when I'm taking pictures of her. The top knot as well. I don't think shes comfortable in the clothes so its not a constant in her life. When I wear a pony tail I get a sore spot so I don't make her have hers up much. I agree with you that they are absolutely adorable all dressed up and I understand why you don't do it. Its also very cool that some yorkies love it and look forward to it. Just depends on the dog I think. |
I LOVE this thread..way to go:thumbup: - What I think is so true is that we can post and be feeling one way - and sometimes our words convey another way - Most of the time I TRY to be very direct myself - but sometimes it's HARD to be very direct AND tactful at the same time lol. (I've had my share of oooopsies):p and on clothes - Each to his own is right. Some doggies LOVE being dressed -and some really hate it - IF my girls didn't LOVE wearing clothes I'd never dress them....but they adore wearing shirts and dresses. They prance around like they're hot stuff and if they could talk.... they'd be yelling...."YO WORLD LOOK AT ME ! AREN'T I TOO CUTE?" but most of the time - they aren't in clothes ....they play outside alot and they'd be a mess if they were wearing clothes all the time - Clothes are cute - but sure can cause Matting and tangles. |
I like this thread. Most of the furbabies that I see with the pretty clothes are adorable. I sometimes wish that Katy would wear them but that's not for her. (I think it would take her seconds to tear them off). She doesn't wear a bow 100% of the time and we always take them out at night. She knows that she can not go for a ride in the car or a walk with out one. So she will come to the foot stool and put her head down so she can get a bow on. Of course she will not smile during the process, but she will happily run to daddy to show it off once its in. |
Me too! I have said some dumb things, that after I post it and read it, it's to late and If I try to start explaining myself what I really meant, then I draw attention to it! So I let it alone then Blam! I did not escape  and a couple of members who really knew what I was trying to say helped me out a few times in some threads, almost like an interpreter  and I really appreciate that help!! or sometimes you really don't see how it sounds until after it was brought to your attention.. sometimes I missread a thread and make some dumb a__s post, then I reread it then I will either PM with an apology and publicy anounce an apology, just about everyone here is very respectful and have gotten to know one another pretty well and will come to help "explain Lucy"....:D As far as dressing the babies, It's all good, they look so cute and I love to see them all dressed up! with the expressions on their little faces.. kinda like the ET thing! :p Myself I prefer putting sweaters on mine, winter is cold so they both have their own little dresser full of turtlenecks, crew and hooded sweatshirts. |
We don't dress up much around here but Shelby has a few pieces to keep her warm. I bought her boots for the snow and she walks like a champ in them. She cried when she was barefoot one time, that's all it took. $$$ later, she had little tiny UGH look-a-likes. I don't think everyone sees their pets the same way, which is okay. Shelby is way way wayyyyyyyyy more than just a pet to me. And if I were into "dressing up" more, she would be too. |
Nice Thread. I don't dress mine. I'm afraid if I spent the money on the clothes I'd never put them on them anyway. I did try to make one, but never got it finished. I also think if their coats are long, The clothes would distract from and mess up the coat. It gets really cold here sometimes, and my past yorkies just learned to pee fast. With my two now they will be trained on the pads as well as outside so when the weather is bad, they won't have to go out. I do love the topknots though, and can't wait for their hair to get longer. |
