Same as there are people on this board that baby their Yorkies way, way more than I think is necessary. It's almost borderline embarassing sometimes. BUT do they get flamed for it? To each their own...

If someone says to me "what's the big deal... it's just a dog" they are going to catch hell from me because my dogs are my children just as my skinbabies are BUT they are still dogs. You wouldn't put a kid in a crate and call it "good for them" yet we do with dogs. Why? Because they are dogs. I love Tatum and Stormie just as much as all you love yours but we acknowledge that one is "inside dog" and one is "outside dog". Sure, Stormie would love to be "inside dog" too and my husband would really love it but such is not the case. There really is nothing wrong with that.

It's just that the extreme opinion of "no dog outside ever ever" is a little ridiculous. But again, we can agree to disagree.

I totally agree - I have a Cocker Spaniel and 2 yorkie girls - when I'm out ...they're out with me -

and if I DARE sneak back in the house and shut the slider door for just ONE MINUTE - I have 3 pitiful faces looking in at me ...acting all put out that I had the NERVE to shut the door on them....we're talking ONE MINUTE here -

That's how I get them in sometimes .... I close the door and they come running......I need a picture of their sad faces - it's too cute.:D I could never ever leave a yorkie outside unless I was right there with them.

edited to add - I DO have a picture....

cute pic.:lol tears

Well, actually I do have 2-140 lb Labs that are INDOOR dogs.
I grew up in a home where we had dogs as large as St Bernards
that were indoor family members. I personally find my big dogs
are better behaved in the house than my rowdy little dogs.

I think some big dogs like to be outside, and its ok to let them stay out, providing they are properly cared for with the type of bedding and runs, kennels, that they need water food attention, etc... BUT, I also think when harsh weather arives such as a very hot day, they should be brought in the house, whether the dog wants to come in or not for its safety, and they should have free run of a kennel of some type, NOT chains or ties. But, most of all I believe no dog should be outside in the winter months at all except to use the potty. The reason for this is 12 years ago when we first bought our house, the neighbors accross the ally had 2 white German Shepards, they left outside 24/7 and a really bad winter came along. I tried to call animal welfare and they said they would be out to check on them. They never came.... The poor dogs were found frozen to death the next morning. The people moved out shortly after this happened,so I dont know if they got into trouble or not.Our animal welfare here is a joke to say the least.:(

Let me just make sure that my point is not misunderstood... I'm not saying that big dogs don't belong inside or should not be inside, but to each his own and I feel as though if the dog wants to be outside it should be allowed to. I also wanted people to understand that there are breeds that should NEVER stay outside and a yorkie is one of them.

When you say this though you have got to realize that some places don't have as harsh a winter as you must. Our winters here are rarely lower then 45...

Sorry, I didnt specify,This was pertaining to the northern regions, such as In., Oh, Ny ect.... Also I'd like to add, cause my edit didnt work, This was also only about the large dogs.I have a bichon and a yorkie that are strictly indoors only unless I walk them on a leash or going out to potty, with me by their side at all times. I think ALL small dogs should be indoor dogs.:)

Shelly! The black Lab is my Midnite's twin. So precious. I love Labs. They are SUCH good dogs! Thanks for posting that pic.

I didnt say that people who left their dogs outside were abusive. I dont know each situation. But I think the people that leave their dogs out no matter what the weather is are neglectful. There is nothing anyone can say that will change my mind on that. I would rather see yorkies being babied than big dogs left out side in sub 0 weather.

Ditto. Personally I think every outside dog should be brought INSIDE at night. As a child we had a beagle who stayed outside most of the time...but he came in EVERY night and never stayed outside during bad weather...be it rain, sleet, snow, or HEAT. Sometimes it's too dang hot for a dog to be outside.

PS On Saturdays, you'd find him curled up with my little brother on the couch...watching Saturday morning cartoons. :)
