Does Anyones Yorkie Live Outside? Hi! Just wanted to know if anyone keeps their yorkies outside. My girl is always inside only when we play outside for a few hours but I was just wonder if anyones yorkie live outside permanently.:animal36 |
My step sister had a Yorkie that she kept outside full time and the poor thing was dirty and so sad all the time. She was/is a terrible dog owner I would never keep a Yorkie outside full time, they're too small and delicate in my opinion. My father stole/kidnapped/rescued the dog from her and she got all huffy about it and he told her she was mistreating the dog and couldn't have it back. Know she lives my dad and step mom and she (Sadie) is happy and beautiful and lives indoors fulltime and is my dads little baby!! |
Live outside? Absolutely NOT! Mine aren't even allowed to go outdoors by themselves. I am glad that the yorkie you mentioned ended up in what seems to be a much happier situation... |
Yorkies are indoor pups. I will never let Gucci go outside alone. Kirby's dad im glad that your father rescued her. |
I don't think any dog (a pet) should be kept outside all the time. Most people with large dogs (a lab, golden retreiver, etc.) don't keep them outside 100% of the time. I know one person who does keep her dog outside all the time. 1) Her dog is kept outdoors 24/7 regardless of the weather. 2) The backyard is so full of dog poop that no one goes out there anymore. The children can't play in the yard...even in the summer. She said that if her husband or boys won't clean it up - she's not going to. 3) The neighbors call the authorities constantly complaining about her dog barking night and day. And - she thinks her neighbors are out of line - not her!!! **** I asked her why she has a dog at all - and, she said, "Oh, the children go out and play with it once in a while." ..... after she said that no one can go in the backyard because of the dog messes all over.... I am sure her children don't go out and play with the dog in the cold of winter. This is abuse - right? And - of course, little Yorkies shouldn't be kept outside. Very small dogs (like Yorkies) are considered "house dogs" for a good reason........ Carol Jean |
NO WAY!!! I don't ever let my babies outside unless it's for a walk while I am out there |
We have coyotes in the woods behind our house, too many missing neighborhood cats. I am even scared to let them out in the back yard at night, they potty in the front yard only. I worry about eagles, too. I think I will be getting Bella, age 3 mo's...microchipped, she is just way too friendly, unlike her brother. |
Oh NO NO NO NO!!! My aunt had a yorkie stolen from her back yard in the middle of the day while they were home. She had a doggy door and the dogs went in and out when ever they wanted to. Gus does not go out without someone watching him rather it be the back or front yard. I don't think any dog big or small should be kept outdoors 24/7. My neighbor in back of us have a boxer and that poor thing is left outside in the blistering heat and in the cold winter. I feel so sorry for him. He loves attention! When the kids do go out and play with him, (whish isn't very often) he so happy running and playing. But now that the kids are getting older they lost interest in the poor guy. It's so sad to look out my bedroom window and see him just laying there looking so sad. |
No way! I don't let me furby go outside unless I can keep an eye on her! My cousins have a golden retriever, Sunkist, that they don't let her in the house. It's sooo sad! No one plays with her. They only go outside when she's hungry and crying for food. She whines and cries when she sees people in the house (when we visit) because she wants to play. She will leave a tennis ball by the door, look at you in hope you'll play fetch. My little cousin was the one who wanted this dog. Right now, she's at the other side of the coast. After college, she just stayed there. What happened to the dog that she claimed she loved so much???! Out there in the yard!!! The only good thing is we live in California so it doesn't snow or get TOOO cold for Sunkist. Some people just don't deserve to have a dog.... |
Dougal Dog My in laws had Dougal dog for 16 years, he was a beautiful silverback male...they live way out in the beautiful English countryside, and from what I know Dougal spent endless hours outside playing with the other dogs in the good weather, of his own choosing, but he would of never wanted to be a permanent outside dog.....he liked his fireplace too much for that.I now have LiL Moe, and I would like to let him outside more often, under my watchful eye of course....but I can't as everytime I let him out free, off his chain( attatched to harness) he goes bonkers running about and leaping and spazing out, which when he then comes inside will lead to him limping for days....we're having it looked at though.....but nope I would never make Moe permanent outside for way too many reasons to count.Theft, bad weather, other animals, sickness, and these are companion dogs , so of course living outside they would get lonely. |
Oh my god no way only with mama by his side, he is my cuddly boy, I cant go to bed without him |
No way! My little girl loves to run and play outside, but loves to be with people--playing,cuddling and sleeping curled up next to Mum--me! lol. I think it is cruel to have a pet dog and keep it outside all the time, especially our little Yorkies. |
 Toto's feet rarely touch the ground ... can't imagine her living outside! Besides that, Patrick would have a place "out there" for me too and I don't like it out there either!! ;) |
I'm one of those people that feel IF you bring a dog into your life - it should be IN YOUR LIFE... not outside. I've never had a big dog but I just hate to hear about the ones that are left outdoors 24/7....they must get SO lonely....that's just so not fair to them to be left alone and even worse - during extreme weather....:( I had a neighbor that had a Large dog tied to a tree 24/7 and never paid attention to him.....he was just MISERABLE....What a sad way to live.:( |
Not all outside dog owners are bad!!! Okay... in defense of my wonderful Mother who takes spiders outside rather then kill them... No, she doesn't have a Yorkie... she has a Norwegian Elkhound and yes, Tohno the Norwegian Elkhound is an outside 24/7 dog. Those who are familiar w/this breed know their coat is designed for the extremes (either way). Tohno started out as an inside dog and absolutely HATED it. He whined to be out ALL THE TIME. He was not meant to be an outside dog but he just became it. My Mom takes SUPERB care of Tohno. She thinks of him as one of her kids and is out there EARLY every morning cleaning his "area", and feeding/watering him. In extreme weather she has her boots and coveralls by the door and she's outside constantly putting new hay in his "igloo" to keep him warm and fresh water (so it's not frozen). In the hot summer she's out there all the time with fresh trays of ice cubes for his water bowl. She hoses him down to cool him off (which he LOVES) His "area" is cleaned EVERY day, often more then once as he goes. He is walked regularly and has plenty of tree shade. I've had friends come over and make remarks like "Is he outside all the time?" And when I say yes, they get that look on their face. It bothers me so much because I know what wonderful care she takes of this dog and any animal for that matter. She's rescued countless small animals that were injured or left homeless (baby birds w/Mama killed by cats) and has taken many to wildlife refuges around the area she lives in. She's soooo kindhearted and it makes me so sad to think that because she has an outdoor 24/7 dog, that people think she's a bad person. :( Love you Mom you\'re the best!!! |
