Horrible dog training school!!! Ive been looking into taking Daisy to a dog training school and found one quite close to where i live. I emailed the trainer and she seemed very nice i told her about Daisy and she said to bring her along this evening. There where around 11 puppys and atleast 8 of them where very large breeds and all of them where trying to attack eachother! My poor Daisy was terrified but i thought we should stay for a while to see what it was like once the trainer got there.Thats when it went from bad to worse!! She arrived and told all the owners to put the choke chains on their pups!! Even the 5 month yorkie!!! Then if a pup done anything wrong she yanked the chain so hard and yelled at the poor pup!! One little chi was even choking and trying to catch its breath! I got up to leave and a standard poodle pup ran from its owner and started attacking the lil yorkie!!! It was so awfull i left in tears i cant believe that people would actually take their furbabys to such a place. Me and Daisy will deffintely not be going back!!!!:( |

That is horrible. Those choke chains can damage a yorkies delicate trachea. Obviously that trainer is not familiar with small breeds. You were smart to leave hopefully some of the other people took your cue and left as well. |
Choke collars aren't really safe for Yorkies no matter how you use 'em. Until they're adults and they've had enough training that they need minimal corrections. I use a prong collar on my little ones personally when working in Obedience and doing tricks. Then we move to choke collars and then to a buckle collar or nothing at all and they respond just as well as if they were on the prong collar. And before I get those "Oh, prong collars are terrible" comments, please save yourself the breath. You don't know what you're talking about. I'm glad you walked out. I hope you call her and let her know just what it is that you disagreed w/ so she can decide how to better herself and/or her training. |
Thats why I dont take Alfie and Lottie to classes here! Even our vet does not recommend the local classes, same problem. I am just clicker training them myself better no class than a bad class! |
please do something My god cant you report that place to the spca? that is nothing short of abuse! please follow this up and dont let them get away with this. |

That woman should have separated the dogs and not allowed such a situation as your dog being attacked to have arisen. You should report her to whatever dog training association she belongs to. Apparently (and I use this because I'm not sure how accurate this info is), prong collars are much more humane than choke collars because prong collars limit the amount of pressure applied to the dog's throat so there's no risk of actually choking the dog to death. I've read of people mentioning a study that was done, showing that dogs on the prong collar had drastically less injuries than those on a choke collar. Of course, I also saw a site that did not recommend the use of either collars on small dogs, such as Yorkies. Mainly because of their delicate tracheas. By the way, the spikes on the inside of the prong collar is not supposed to stab the dog... according to several sites. In any case, I won't be using them on my Yorkie... and the only collar she'll be wearing is a breakaway one. |
I reported her to the rspca this morning and someone is going to attend her next class and take a look and no it wasnt a petsmart class .I dont agree at all with using a choke collar or a prong collar on small dogs you could so easily crush their lil windpipes unless you actually know what your doing and even then i still dont think its right :( |
Those prong collors look horrible. I cant believe someone would use one of those for a yorkie! |
