While I think it is wrong for any person to put their hands on your physical being, the manager was well within his rights to ask you to leave. At the three nearest Targets to my house there are signs in clear view on their doors. I believe they say only guide dogs allowed. I called my friend (she happens to be a manager of a Target in Southern California) she told me that there is also a sign on their doors. As for filing complaint, do this at your discretion, only if you truly feel that you were violated. As for litigation, I am a firm believer that people file to many frivolous lawsuits. I am sorry this happened to you. |
I think that manager went over the line when he grabbed your arm and escorted you out. He could have just asked you to leave. I would file a complaint too. |

I am going to call the store, get this manager's name and call the corporate office and comlplain. Just like that, plain and simple, without raising my voice or screaming profanity (lol)....I'm just going to state the facts and tell them that he made me extremely uncomfortable and that his behavior was out of line, etc. I know that the way he acted WAS out of line. Not the asking me to leave part (and I'll make this clear as well) - I'm sorry for breaking the rule, I didn't know it was a rule and I'm now happy to know it and obey it - but regardless of what happened the manager's behavior was borderlined assault, he treated me like a common criminal, humiliated me in front of other customers, belittled my intelligence, didn't respect my personal space, etc. I'm not going to call the cops or file a lawsuit. I agree, there are too many frivilous lawsuits going on in this country and gosh I don't even have the time or the money to invest into such a matter. I don't think anyone was really suggesting I do so, as much as suggesting I use "that card" to get their attention, which is definitely something to consider. |
wow! What a terrible way to treat someone. No matter what the rules are. I go into target all the time, and not once have I seen a sign on the door that says (no pets) . Seems to me like they should be a little more "CLEAR" with the rules that they want to inforce. And as far as the way that it was handled, there was no excuse for that. Some people get on a power trip and loose all sence of reality! I think that you should file a complaint with the main office. There is no way that I would let him get away with that. Even if you don't get anywhere with it, you won't be out anything. And you are doing some real damage just by word of mouth! You would be amazed how it travels. because I know that I will be telling everyone about this. And I am sure other people will as well. They are loosing business from me for sure! That was uncalled for. I really hope that you decide to file a complaint. Best of luck! Im so sorry that you had to deal with that! |
GEEEEEEEEZ! How RUDE!!!!!! I'm sorry that happened to you! Some people are so anal about things! |
wow, that guy was a real jerk!! I am in total agreement with the way you have chosen to handle this. Filing a complaint with the company will make them aware that this particular person acted inappropriately and hopefully will prevent him from making someone else feel uncomfortable as well. He had no right to treat you like a criminal when you were more than willing to cooperate. Had you put up a fight, or caused a scene, then I can understand him acting that way. Kudos to you for deciding to file a complaint and please keep us posted!! |
so---Does Target have a company-wide policy regarding pets, or is it on a store-by-store basis? I would honestly like to know. Edie is a Target shopper and she has never been asked to leave, even though MANY store employees knew she was there. |
So sorry 4 U I feel u girl that guy was a total A Whole. My God what a creep. Please!!! You should have nailed him one, right where it hurts. No really, the nerve of some people. I never knew that Target was like that. I always bring Daisy into Target for household shopping, and stuff for myself and her aswell. That has never occured there with us. Poor u and ur baby Sully to have to deal with that bull crap...Sorry u had to go threw that. He must not like Dogs. He should after all he is one. Di** LEss......... A** whole......... |
i would most definitely report him. he had no business putting his hands on you or treating you in such a manner. a simple request to take the dog out would have been enough. some people do not like our pets as much as we do, or appreciate their presence as much. but there was no need for such rudeness. i am a bit surprised that he acted in such a manner. there are so many rules for businesses to follow that for him to try and grab you that way would be a huge no no. |

I agree and I am sure other people have gone threw this with this jerk aswell. Goodluck!!!!!Put him in his place.... Yorkie Rights.............Hip, Hip. Hurray!!! |
After putting my shoes back on, the manager tried to grab my wrist to escort me out of the store! I jerked my hand away. (I've been 100% cooperative when he asked me to leave, why did he feel the need to use force?) Ohhhhh...Big Manly Man.!...I guess he showed YOU who was BOSS! Francie |
u GO gIRL........... Quote:

Ohhhhhhh I would handle that..let me at em..... First off.....he has a boss, right? Call and get his name.....write it down...he is probably an Asst. Then call back in the AM and talk with his boss.....then no matter what the Store mgr says, either find out who the district mgr is....or do a google search for their corporate offices...then go to him.......all the while keeping tract of who said what....I would actually write down exactly what happened before I even talked to Store mgr....so as to not forget.... The squeeky wheel thing here......if they have policy...then show you where it is....if not.....the AMgr response was "inappropriate" and state you were humiliated and...you felt it was a "hostile envionment" those are some buzz words....and that you will pass this on to anyone and everyone ..... Was he short???? the store mgr...seems like it was a "power" play....lol Let me tell you, my picture is at every restaurant and every retail store around here.......hotels too.....with a big X on it.....I have learned that the customer...is first...and I remind whoever I deal with just that fact!!!! You can do it!!!!whowhowho!!! |
Ok...so I got on a soapbox....... I still mean it though..... |
Val...I'm so sorry you were humiliated by that dirtbag. If he felt he had to see that you did indeed leave, he could have stayed quite a distance behind you and shown you some respect. I am glad you are not just letting this go. This incident needs to be reported and no reason on earth why you should have been treated as a criminal. Maddie sends kisses to you and Sully! I've had her in Target in her bag and one time she barked when we were standing in line at the checkouts. Everyone was looking around for a dog, but didn't notice Maddie in my bag. LOL |
