I would have let him know that he had humiliated me by the way he treated me and I would not be back. I work with the public and I try to treat everyone in a nice way. He could have gotten his point across and even made sure you did leave without humiliating you. I would write to someone higher up and tell them how he humiliated you and that they have lost a customer. Be sure to tell them the Yorkie was in a bag. An associate of my daughters was treated very poorly at Walmart when she tried to return something. We live in a small town with not a lot of places to shop so Walmart is used by all of us quite a lot. This lady writes checks for everything, so she got out all of her cancelled checks, figured up what she had spent at Walmart in the last year (it was a lot) took the checks to Walmart and also wrote to someone higher up. She got an apology and the manager of the store took the lady to the persons at the customer service desk and told them if she ever came in to return ANYTHING she was to get the best service possible from everyone. One of our busdriver's teenage daughter and a friend went to Dilliard's to try on Prom dresses. The mother's were in a nearby Salon getting a manicure. The girls tried on dresses and then hung them all back up on the racks. A salesgirl stopped them on their way out and accused them of shoplifting. She took them back to the department and totally humiliated them. Of course, they hadn't taken anything. When Trish found out from her daughter (who was in tears) she went back to Dilliards and raised "hell" with the manager who called the sales person up and made her apoligize. They also gave Trish a $100 gift certificate. Sometimes it pays to complain. |
He was a little dramatic but I think we open ourselves up for this kind of stuff by just assuming everyone is dog friendly. Most places are not. My wife takes our yorkie everywhere, to the mall to any store, target, walmart and she is in the dog bag so most of the time no one knows she is there. If you are going to take your dog into places just be more discreet. |
Sorry to hear what happened but no they are not Dog Friendly. I got kicked out as soon as I entered the door. I didn't have Jazzy in a bag though I was trying my best to hide her on the right side of me and the guard was too the left. He was calling me like Ms...Ms...and I proceeded to ignore him..lol. I eventually looked over and he said no dogs. I said well she's not gonna be on the floor. He said still no dogs. So I had to take her back to the car. I felt so bad leaving her in the car alone. I've never taken her back...but now that I have a new bag that actually looks like a purse I'm taking her everywhere!!! |
even if you were the wrong for violating some unwritten, unposted policy, you still deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and not like some common crimininal. i'd definitely file a complaint to the corporate office anyways. if you don't have the name of the store manager, list when you were at the store and a physical description. i was once treated horribly over the phone by a restaurant manager of a popular chain of restaurants. i wanted to make a reservation since i had so many people coming and the manager not only denied the request because they don't take reservations for groups of any size, he made several nasty remarks which i felt was completely unnecessary. i was so mad, i got his first name before he hung up on me (yea, he hung up on me like i'm some crazy person!!!!). i went to the restaurant's corporate website and filed a complaint with a long but respectfully written rant about how i was horribly treated over the phone, including the day and time of my phone call as well as the first name of the manager on duty. a few days later, the main restaurant manager called me on the phone to apologize and told me although they normally do not take reservations, if my request is for time outside peak hours, he would be more than happy to arrange it personally. although by that time, it was too little too late, i made a reservation elsewhere, i did feel vindicated. so totally file the complaint, if anything it'll make u feel better. |
You know.... If you DO sell doggie clothes and you DON'T sell food...I think it's pretty ridiculous to have a rule against a smalldog, contained to a purse in in your store. But then they'd have to deal with the nightmare of people who are not very considerate bringing their animals into the store and letting them down or a person being mad that their medium sized dog is not allowed in. Hey guys.... Does anyone know of a list of animal friendly stores? I'm just wondering where we ARE allowed to have our animals. What about the Mall...are we allowed to have them at the mall? They DO have pet stores at the mall... |
I would file a complaint! All they had to do was say "ma'am we don't allow dogs in the store, would you please leave"...he did not have to treat you the way he did. He harassed you by walking you out the way he did. That was so uncalled for! I would report the whole incident to the corporate office. |
Perhaps the good that can come from your experience is that now everyone reading your post will know Target is NOT pet friendly and won't try to sneak or bring thei pets in. Hopefully you can save this from happening to someone else. :) |
Phone Target and ask them the name of the manager, then phone head-office and put in a complaint! That JERK has NO right to touch you AT ALL!! Treating you like a criminal? Don't leave this Val, phone head-office and give them your story. Who knows, you might get a free bikini lol :D its worth the try ;) |
First of all, I understand how you feel. When Brandy was a puppy I used to sneak her into places. I had thought Target was dog-friendly. One time I had her at the mall and she was sleeping in my bag and I noticed that someone had their Chihuhua out and on a customer service desk! So I took Brandy out too. Then a week later I went to a different Target and got kicked out right at the door. I am glad my husband was with me because the guy didn't lay a hand on me or try to. I really think you should complain about that. If they did not have a sign on the door, then how were you to know? I do not agree with dogs in stores if they sell food and that is when it is against the law. Esspecially grocery stores because it is unsanitary. But if they do not serve food then it is up to the store. I was looking up some information on the subject and I found this. http://www.hearinglossweb.com/res/dog/purse.htm I had no idea this was going on, but it makes sense. Some people with disabilities are complaining that the public who bring pets in stores make the stores harder on them as well. Technically if you say your dog is a service dog, they can not ask for any paperwork or what your disability is. But they can ask what tasks the dog is trained to do. It looks like with more people bringing their dogs into stores makes stores crack down on people with disabilities as well by seemingly accusing those animals to be pets. When COSTCO saw this man's service dog in the cart they probably thought it was his pet. I kind of feel bad for the person for having to go through so much. After reading this I don't think I will be bringing Brandy into places anymore. http://www.planetfeedback.com/index....opic_id=285169 I guess the best solution is to call places first. But at no time should anyone ever lay their hands on you. |
TARGET is not pet friendly Never has been. It's a shame how you were treated. I'd do it again on a different day of the week. Do you remember the name of the manager? If not, I'd go ask associates (describe the manager-as though you liked him and wanted to thank him for something but couldn't remember his name) and see if they could tell you the managers name and find out when he works next. Don't go the day he works. Instead go when a DIFFERENT manager is on shift. Before you go in w/ your baby, look at the doors, is it posted that no dogs except service animals are allowed? If not, GO IN. And if they try to pull the same stunt w/ you, hold your ground. This is crazy. I know that they'll bring up the arguement that they sell open food and THAT's why they don't allow pets. Idiots. Best of Luck! |
That totally sucks Val!!! Coco sends you wet kisses to make it better. I always thought target was dog friendly. I take Coco in there with no bag or anything. I just hold her and go in and no one says anything. That's the reason I like shopping at Target vs. Walmart. He must have just had his panties in a twist  and was jealous that he didn't have a cute Sully of his own. |
Here is a thought, what if everyone that had a yorkie did not shop at target, nor buy there dog clothes, toys and other stuff:aimeeyork I wonder how many would have the attitude of NO YORKIES,$$$$ talks:aimeeyork |
I work at K-Mart. We have cameras set up all over the place. They (managers) have to view them from time to time to see what cashiers are doing, what other associates are doing, or what customers are doing. Chances are, if you were in the store where I work, they could pull the confrontation up on their security servaliance screen and see what happened. I would call the store, find out his name and get something done as soon as possible. They don't keep security tapes forever. You might have to fib a bit to find out the actual name of the guy, but don't get frustrated. Managers are people too, and they have to explain themselves the same way you and I have to. Too many complaints about the guy and somehow, they seem to start paying attention to other things he/she has done. Don't give up! He has NO RIGHT to lay a hand on you, unless you were trying to run out of the store. And apparently you were trying to leave, but got stopped while tieing your shoe!! Good thing you didn't trip over your shoelace. Then you could have said that there was water (or something) on the floor and sue the pi$$ out of them. People try that all the time!! Good luck!! Suz |
You should absolutely complain to their corporate office Whether Target is "pet friendly" or not, that is no excuse to have been treated the way the manager treated you! It's not as if you were making a scene or refusing to leave- all he really needed to do was explain that pets were not allowed and asked you nicely to leave. Sully was contained, it's not as if he was running loose or even walking around on the floor for that matter. You should have descretely been asked to leave and then you could have exited the store and not been escorted out like you were a criminal! I hate it when some people get so over dramatic about something so minor- especially when it's at your expense. |
