| Help with putting hair up Does anyone else have a problem getting their little yorkie to stay still long enough to get their hair up? I have a male puppy who is about 5 months old and I am trying to work with him when it comes to brushing him and he is getting better but he is still so BAD when it comes to me trying to put his hair up. Any ideas? I can not get him to stay still - the only time he had it up was just recently when he went to the groomers and when I got home he had it out somehow. It looked so cute and I would like to put it up again but can not seem to get him to hold still long enough - he is such a slippery little wiggle worm. Thanks!

| I tried yesterday for 20 mins to get a clippy or a small rubber band in Bailey's hair, NO HAPPENING! I got the clip in partially once then one head shake it was gone, he grabbed it chewed it, and it broke...

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Ramsey hates grooming, but I finally found a method to keep her still while putting in a topknot. I sit with my legs straight out and place her in between the two kinda holding her in position. Grasp the pieces you want to put up and wrap a rubber band around it. I use the ones that are ouchless. They are small so it doesn't take too many wraps to get them to stay. If you're using barrettes, place rubber band in first, then clip the barrette beneath that...it'll stay then. Good luck.... PS I've found the more often I do topknots, the better she is at sitting there to get them done. I think she gave up the fight....mom's gonna do this...might as well sit here.

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Take advantage of those lap-times! Everytime Ramsey gets in your lap, play with his ears, feet, and head hair. I started when we first got abbie, so she's not so "touchy" about certain areas. If you just play with his top hair without trying to slip in a bow all the time, maybe it won't be so traumatic when comes time for a bow.

| Okay well I will have to go get some small bands and try that - but that sounds like what I have been doing. I place him in my lap with my legs out so he kind of falls between them and he is okay till I start wrapping than he just goes bonkers. I guess persistence is the key - we will try again. Thanks!

Persistence is definitely the key. I have been putting Sissy's hair in a ponytail every day for two weeks now. It is getting easier and she is tolerating it better. We're up to a couple hours with it in (if she is distracted) before she gets the band out. If I attach a bow, it is out immediately (I think the weight of the bow makes her very aware). I'm hopeful that if I keep at it, I'll eventually be able to get a bow in as well.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Oh yeah...I forgot...distract them AFTER you get it in. I've found if I distract Ramsey...she forgets the bow's there. If I put it in and leave her to her own defenses....she'll work on getting it OUT. She actually wore hers for two days last week...so she is getting used to it.

| Here's what I do... Every morning, rain or shine a band goes in Ty's hair.. I put him on the counter and put like 5 or 6 cheerios down on the counter. He eats them while I put the band in. When I finish and he's finished with the ones on the counter I give him like 2 more from my hands so that I doesn't think about the band.. I'm still working or the bows.. Right now he only does about 30 minutes of the bows before out they come.. LOL Just keep working at it.. |
