Time to be honest . . . . How many of you read "all the posts" on a long thread. I don't - but I do scan through to see if the original poster added any further posts - and I do scan through (not carefully read) a lot of the responses. I'm a fast reader - and a fast scanner - I used to teach English and Social Studies and often took 500 papers home a night to read and grade... and my current job in the medical profession is scanning at least a thousand pages of material a day - with several other duties as well. I can't even imagine how long it must take someone who reads more slowly to get through all the posts on some of these longer threads - especially if they try to keep up with all the threads - as well as respond to many of them. (It would be a full time job...) I think all the activity is what makes this such a great forum. It is one busy place! Let me know how much you read? Carol Jean |
im like you, i scan and look for posts my the original author. |
It truly depends. On threads that are about subjects that I'm passionate about (pit bulls, petstores etc) I read the whole post. but when posts just go on forever, I usually just skim. :) |
i read them. i am recovering from a brain injury from a car accident and reading and posting helps me with my cognitive skills. p.s. put your furbaby in a carseat they save furbaby lives :aimeeyork |
I try to read most posts but skip the ones that are long without paragraph breaks. To hard to read.... I really try to though. Sometimes I feel I maybe missing out a lot of good information in those posts but my poor eyes can't take it. |
It all depends...If it's a subject of great interest to me I will read through the entire thread if I feel I am gaining some knowledge from it. Other more generic type threads I browse and repeat subjects I sometimes skip all together. |
Me again -- I'll tell you some of the posts I'm especially not good about reading. 1) All capital letters. 2) Baby talk (oh, I really don't like these!!!) Some of you love them! 3) Colors - like red, etc. 4) Very bad grammer - this is just me. (I do, however, really appreciate anyone who is using English as a second language. I admire anyone who learns a second language.) I don't mind long posts if they're interesting. 4) I'm beginning to skip some subjects occasionally because I have read about these things so often. (This happens after we have been here a while.) Potty training - barking - puppymills - Yorkie weights, etc. 5) And I think we all have some things that we just aren't as interested in as we are other things. Keep going - I'm enjoying hearing how much we read - and what we read. Carol Jean |
I will usually scan through the long posts. If the topic is something that I am familiar about I will post my opinion. I am a fast reader so it is easy for me. The rest of my family are slow readers. I don't know what I would do if I could not read fast, because I love reading and writing. :) |
I try to read all posts in a thread as sometimes I find I do learn something new from someones's comment or advice. I have Multiple Sclerosis and have difficulty reading sometimes. I usually have to avoid the posts that are one huge, long paragraph as I find I lose my place easily. I find it much easier when people break up their posts into many paragraphs. |
I read all...mostly. You know, my husband teases me about how much time I spend on YT now! If I read every single post all the way through the entire thread, there would be no time for anything else in my life, lol!! :D Like you, I am also tending to skip repetitive issues, though if I notice no one or few people have replied in a while, I will post to give info or teach a new person how to search so they can research on their own and find the answers. I also read through long threads sometimes if I like the posters very much, or if I am certain there will be amusement for me along the way! (Rhonda & Deb's thread for example!) To be completely honest, I read every post especially if a thread becomes "heated". I love the occasional human drama! :p I love YT, and am grateful for all the information and friends it has brought to me. It's awesome! Admittedly tedious sometimes, but awesome overall! |

I usually TRY to read ALL the posts in a thread. That way I don't end up saying something already said ....or sounding like I missed the last ferry to the mainland. I'm a speed reader so I usually don't have a problem skimming thru each page of long threads....but when they go over 5 pages...then it can be a bit much. as far as things posted that get repeated - I try to post or check those out - much of the info bears repeating even if I've already seen it a thousand times.....PLUS - I remember being brand new to forums & that's how we learn. |

Like you I am a fast reader, but I don't like: 1. baby talk 2.light coloured writing 3.Capitals-it's like shouting. After 3 months on Yorkietalk, I sometimes skim the potty training and other really common threads. There are some threads i am interested in,but have had no experience in yet,so can't comment, but read the other replies with interest. The hot threads are good to check out,but I also try to look at those with few replies that may have got'lost'. I will do more paragraphing after reading this thread! lol |

Lololol I am also shocked to see how many folks don't like the "baby talk" (YORKIE talk) threads!!! I love them, and I am guilty of starting some myself! I just think it is hysterical when someone attempts to write from the yorkie's point of view and interpret in words what the pup may be thinking! It never fails to crack me UP!!! :D |
I try to read the new posts first. Since I've found YT I don't get a whole lot else done. I've had to disipline myself with my time. When I have time then I come back and try to read as much as I can. I love this place and the people are so nice and informative and helpful. It's hard not to be here all the time. |
I actually LOVE the baby talk posts too - I can't DO it but LOVE reading them and think they're hilarious :D I just lub dem :) |
You're killing me today!! Quote:
See?? You can SO!! Carol Jean, this is a great thread!! :p |
I am horrible at spelling and a SLOW reader. I don't even go near the posts that have like 20 replies, I know it would take me years to read. However... I love the ones with drama too! Those ones I will spend hours reading :D I also read the ones throughly that concers a question I too have. :) But mostly I am a short thread, scanner  |
One thing I find particularly interesting is that a lot of you especially love the threads with "a lot of drama" .... the disagreements, etc. And these are the very ones that Administration often "closes" .... darn! Perhaps the fact that so many people enjoying reading them - means that they aren't so bad after all. We certainly do need some rules and regulation - we want this forum to remain a clean, wholesome, friendly, entertaining, educational, and helpful place to visit --- but it does look like an occasional disagreement can be tolerated by most of us. ------------------------------ And for the rest of you -- you will never get me to like "baby talk." I think it is beneath the dignity of any Yorkie .... let alone any person or child. My Yorkie is only 9 months old, but he is far too well educated and intelligent to talk like that! And, to be honest, my children never talked that way either. But - if you like it - you like it! This is what I keep telling all of us -- if you don't like something - just skip it and go on to something else. This is a very active forum, and there is enough to keep us all involved and interested. ------------------------------- Carol Jean |
Fortunately, I am a speed reader. I have always been an avid reader and can read a novel in a day. I have to make myself not start a book or I won't get anything else done. I also dislike it when people misspell every other word. Anyone can do it once in a while or even have an error in typing but some people can't spell at all. I have worked for a school as the Transportation Director for the last 31 years and I am appalled at the way some of the teachers spell when they send me messages. No wonder so many people can't spell. I am sorry to say I also like some of the messages where there are disagreements. Of course, you can have disagreements without being really nasty to each other. There was a thread not long ago that dealt with pit bulls. I personally do not like them as there have been too many people around here killed or injured by them. There were others who loved them and felt they had been misjudged. I think for the most part, we agreed to disagree and knew we were never going to change the others mind but still could express how we felt about the issue. |
What's Baby Talk??????????????????????????? Sorry For The Caps |
I skim alot of long posts but sometimes I get really engrossed in reading the posts too. I like the drama posts as long as someone doesnt become insulting. The baby talk posts sometimes I read sometimes not. I really enjoy reading the posts here even if the subject has been covered several times. It always seems with a new mix of people you get differenet replys each time. |
on the thread about that daisy's owner in brazil not giving the paper to someone else. when she was writing to defend herself. i gave reading her defense after like the 1st paragraph. |
Reading Hi everyone. You all have very interesting opinions and points of view~ that is what makes these forums so contagious. I read most things in a thread. Sometimes I skip through the posts that are one huge paragraph, I guess it's too overwhelming or something. I'm learning alot from all of you and everones opinion matters. Personally, I think some of you a hilarious and you make me laugh and smile which sometimes is very much needed. Passionfruition's threads are something I really lookforward to because she brightens up my day. Her humor is infectious and babytalk is enough to make me cry from laughter!! red98vette is so smart and classy. You ALL are valuable on here in one way or another, Thankyou, Kaitlyn :) |
LOL !! Kaitlyn....My dad would ROLL on the floor laughing :D - smart and ME aren't usually in the same sentence :D My nickname from him is "The Trip" Yesterday was his birthday - at 79 ...he's STILL introducing me to his buddies with...."This is my daughter...'The Trip'....we never know what will come out of her mouth" hahaha......half of them probably don't know my real name anymore :p Thanks for the nice words though ...and I agree - there are many many funny smart people here - the variety of personalities makes this site always interesting. for those that remember my sons Beach wedding last August - yes this is the same Dad that MOONED the beach every time he'd dive into the ocean...Who's The TRIP NOW ? :D :D :D |
Lololol!! Quote:
Hey, as long as he doesn't call you "the trip without luggage", I think you are doing OK! :p |
Reading I am a pretty fast reader and if I have time to spare I like to read them all...even the drama ones. They break up the boredom...lol. This site is a great place and you meet great people. I love to come here for learning and the easy kinships that seem to develop. :D |
Sorry, Carol Jean, I skimmed your post...what was the question again?? It depends on the subject whether or not I'll read every post....some I do...some I don't. Btw, can anyone tell me HOW big my puppy's gonna be? Or what color? ;) |
