Donating YT 1000 Club Member | How Much Sleep Should a New Puppy Get Our new little furbaby who is 12 weeks old sleeps alot. Plays hard when awake. Vet checked okay so not worrying about any health issues. I just thought she would be awake more during the day. What is your experience?

| It is not uncommon for puppies to sleep for long periods of time. As long as your not seeing other clinical signs such as vomiting or diarrhea and not wanting to eat, I wouldn't worry about the sleeping. Remember your puppy is just a baby. The older she gets, the more awake and playful she'll become. I think I read somewhere that 14 hours a day was normal. |

| They need lots of sleep. You will see extremes of hard play and deep sleep! That is the way Oscar was. He would play his little heart out and then just pass out...in his own tracks!

| A new puppy should get all the sleep it wants. However, often a little nudging or noise will awaken them and they'll play for a few minutes and then go back to sleep. I never worried about interrupting my puppy's sleep occasionally --- because if they were with their mom and litter mates - they are being awakened constantly - with licking - other puppies climbing over them, etc. But - puppies like newborn babies need a lot of sleep. Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Oh, thank you all for your posts. No, there are no other signs to worry about. She is eating and pooping just fine. I am relieved to know they sleep so much. You all are such a great resource for just the right information when needed.
