| Funny throat noise??? Hello All! Happy Wednesday! My yorkie, Preston, is and has been making the strangest noise out of his throat. It sounds similar to the sound cats make when they have a hairball. He's a puppy and likes to eat funny things including his PEE PEE PAD! I figured he's probably just eaten something weird and it tickles his throat. However, now I'm concerned it could be calapsed trachea???? Does anyone know the symptoms? It doesn't seem to bother him at all and he's VERY active, eats and drinks normally... HELP!!! Thanks! Adryana |

| First off I would stop him from eating anything other than what you want him to eat. It sounds like you have accepted this as a way of life and he can easily digest something that kills him. Eating pee pad is extremely dangerous. Second, my dog makes noises like that sometimes after she drinks too fast or something like that. It could be nothing but maybe you should go to the vet. I think the collapsed trachea while always a possibility is quite overstated on these forums. It's a rare thing.

| Hi, does it sound like a hacking cough (like a seal would make) or does it sound like snorting?

| Hi, I don't let him eat whatever he wants! That's ridiculous. Sometimes it happens without me knowing it... The noise sounds more like a seal would make...not a snort. What does that mean??? |

| Can dogs get croup? My daughter had croup and the doctors said the telling sign for that was a seal-bark cough. Hope your pup is well! When Bella is outside she sometimes will grab something before I can stop her (like a dandelion) and then hack and hack but is usually fine after a little while... |

| mac does the same thing and the vet said it was nothing. I also just rub his nose even his head and it stops. Mac also makes alot of other weird noises. He has his air bark, his purr, his squeak, and then his I want attention right now bark.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Not sure.... My friend michelle's dog was recently doing that and she was diagnosed with Kennel cough. Try the rubbing thing and if it doen't work then maybe hit the vets office.

| Nikko does the same thing sometimes. It sounds like he's trying to cough up a hairball. Sometimes it happens after he gulps his water too fast and sometimes it happens out of nowhere. What kind of test can the vet perform to determine if this is collapsed trachea or not?

| If he is a puppy I would call the vet...could be kennel cough. They can develop kennel cough from the vacine. It sounds like hacking. Honking noise could be reverse sneezing. http://www.thedachshundnetwork.com/revsneez.htm |
