I crate Twinkie while we are gone since she is so mischievious.... I don't need anything destroyed or piddled on while I'm gone (she gets mad when we leave without her & will pee anywhere she wants on the floor). However, I am going to come up with a way to block her in the kitchen for times when I am gone for a while since I don't think its fair to keep her locked up for too long, as it is, I am always cutting my plans short to come home to let her out (and the BF isn't too fond of always having to come home early to let her out). Twinkie does have the option to sleep with us in bed at night, her kennel is always on the bedroom floor with the door wide open, but lately she has chosen not to sleep with us and sleeps in her kennel (with the door open) instead. Kinda weird but I guess she feels safe in there. |
100% YES! I have to!! My girls would tear the house apart!! They are confined in the kitchen while we are home... and then in the crate while we are gone... Never for more than a couple of hours... 4 max. They are so not trustworthy yet! And at night they are gated in the bathroom in my bedroom.... They can see me... But they sleep in there with each other.. And do just fine! I have WHITE CARPET! and I have already found out the hard way what two young Yorkies can do to White Carpet! Plus its not safe to have a teething pup loose in the house! One electric cord and she's toast! |
Shelby is a year old and I still put her in an expen if I leave for a few hours. I can trust her not to hurt things but I worry about her injuring herself. I know she is safe in the expen and has everything she needs. |
Yep For Miss Mini ..she is crated whenever we go out ..haha sometimes when we are here and she needs a time out ..then i find shell go in the crate for her own space when she needs to ..so cute. |
YES...Chelsea is crated, when we are not home, but her wire kennel is for a larger dog, so she can stand and turn around. The most we have left her is 4 hrs, and when we come home, she seems to have been sleeping, because she comes out yawning and stretches alot. Chelsea is now 14 months, and still cant be trusted, even with a doggie door. She has chewed to many things to count, so she will continue to be crated, while we are away from our home. Hugs, Chelsea'sMom :aimeeyork |
Yes to Crates I always thought that it was like being in jail for dogs when they are crate trained. I mean how would we like it right? But My hubby told me that if I wanted a dog it was the only way to go. I found out later on it's like theyre house. They actually like to be in it. My Dogs will go in without me putting them in...Crazy but true. I am home most of the time so they are barely locked up in a crate, but it was the only way and fastest way they learned. Now I leave it open and they come in and out as they please. No locking up. No need to anymore...Thank God I haven't had one mistake in a while... So I think you should give it a try. Worked for me ... Good Luck... |
Cali is crated if no one is home which is usually only 1-2 hours at a time. my pom has free run of house and has since she was 8 months old. Cali is too much of a destroyer to let loose yet. As soon as I can trust her she will have run of house. It is very rare that no one is home. |
Do you all use the plastic or wire xpens. We are wanting to get one for Cooper but not sure which one to get. |
When Gucci was younger I use to keep her in a gated room where she sleeps but I didnt close the crate she had access to come out and use the wee wee pad and drink water. She is almost 2 yrs old now and I would say for the past year she stays upstairs in my kitchen and living room with no problem. When I leave for work I gate the steps going upstairs to my bedrooms. She is well behaved and doesn't get into trouble. Actually she sits on a wing chair and looks out the window. At night I bring her downstairs and she sleeps in her crate and I gate the room so she doesn't wander at night. This works for me. |
Crating dogs~ Whenever we have to leave the house for a few hours, we tell the girls "You know the drill ~ Get in the box" And they all take off for their own kennel. There is water in there for them and also their beds. They sleep in there at night as well and have since the first night we brought them home as puppies. All of the dogs I have ever had have been crated at night and when no one is at home. Everyone comments on how well behaved they are. Works well for us. |
