extra nails/toes in hind legs? is it mutation? i just notice today when i was thinking of cutting rocky's nails. in his front paws...each paws has four toes/nails. in his hind legs...each has 4 toes/nails close to each other...but there is one a bit far off from the rest. and i see a nail and a tiny lump on it...not bigger than the toe on the paws...maybe one half the size or less. so my question is this a dew claw? is dew claw a extra toe? did the breeder forget to remove the dew claw in the hind legs? please let me know. thanx in advance, vincent

That is a dew claw, and I cannot imagine how they could gorget to remove them. I think they are unsightly and the tend to snag on things And make grooming more difficult, so I would check with the vet about removing them. but I believe at this age it might require anesthesia so maybe it could be done when you spay or neuter.

just have your vet do it when he goes in for his neuter. It should not cost very much. Debbie Ray

| That's so weird that they forgot to remove the back dew claws, but got the front.

well my rocky is 3 months, and he will be neuter when he is probably 6 months. i want the vet to remove any baby teeth that are still there and remove the dew claws during the neutering. do you think 6 months is too old to remove the dew claws?

They are never to old to remove the dew claws it is a very simple procedure as long as they are in for other surgery. It sounds like you have a good plan for you boy. Enjoy your new baby!!! Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com

From time to time , some of my pups have dewclaws at the 4 paws . I ask my vet to remove them at the same time the tails are done .
