Is this the same for Lowes as well or just Home Depot? |
I take Lil Bear with me to Lowes and Home Depot, she gets tons of pats and hi's no ones ever had a problem there. Though I am scared to take her places cause I don't want to be yelled at. Thanks for the info on service dogs. I suffer from panic attacks and slight hearing loss and I do feel much better when Lil Bear or Moose is with me. My mom suffers from cronic daily migraines and has lost all hearing in her left ear and has attacks too because she can't get out much. I will be looking into the service dog idea for both of us. Where did you get the vest and patches? |
It is so funny reading this post because I was so angry this weekend me and my husband got kicked of home depot for having hailey there. |
Every where except Walmart & Grocery Stores! I take Artie (he's 6 pounds last time I weighed him but he feels like 10) every where; TJ. Maxx, Ross, Marshalls, Dept. Stores all love him and he is not in a bag, just in my arms. If we are in a Mall, "Security" will tell you they are not allowed, but the Dept. Store sales people will allow it since they are scared they will loose the business? Home Depot, Loews and Target allow him in, unless there is a Food Stand? Stay away from "Walmart" and all Grocery Stores and Restaurants unless your in "Carmel" California where they are Pet Friendly/Oriented "Doris Day" is a big Dog Advocate. If you are there he can sit at the table and eat off of his own plate.....no lie! (we shared an entree) A lot of other Tourist got a kick out of it and were laughing & pointing, but it was worth the ridicule we had fun! Any outdoor events Flea Markets/Swap Meets, Street Fairs. Furniture Stores, Art Galleries and all Designer Stores. They are a "Luxury" item and looked at as a "Fashion Acessory", I've had him sit next to me in the Lounge area at the "Chanel" store while sipping complementry Champagne! The Louis Vuitton store in San Francisco, CA knows him. O'h Yeah and in major airports in Orlando, Atlanta, Boston, Sacramento, I had him sitting on a couch while drinking Bloody Mary's in the Delta Crown Room. You can get a day pass if your not a Member. It was during all our "Stop overs" en route. It really made him feel better in between flying, the Bloody Mary's weren't bad either, they helped me flying period! I hate Airports, and I'm not a Drinker. If your Baby is well behaved, no one even notices him, they usually do a double take, smile and usually end up kissing him. I try to make friends with all the sales people so we don't get kicked out? I always try, if they do say something I leave, but after I've finished shopping! :D |
I have taken Cordelia with me pretty much every where. I have taken her with me to Petco, Petsmart, Chipotle, Target, Stonebriar Mall, The Galleria Mall, Glamour Dogs, and Smoothie King. The only place I had a problem with was when I went to the Galleria mall here in Dallas. I went into Club Monaco, and I assume it was the manager of the store, but she gave me this nasty look and rolled her eyes at me. She was at the front of the store when I walked in. So, just to piss her off I went this one girl that was sort of in the back folding shirts and I had her help me. She went on and on about Cordelia being so cute. Anyways, the whole time I was in the store that one girl just kept giving me dirty looks, she never said anything. I think it all comes down too, what you carry your yorkie in. My carrier looks just like a purse and I usually keep it zipped up so Cordelia can't stick her head out. I don't think I would carry Cordelia with me to a restaurant or a movie. I would be afraid she would start to bark or whine. I know I wouldn't want to hear that if I was the other person. |
So other yorkie owners sneak their baby's around too! It just breaks my heart to leave my Zoey alone, because she starts to tremble and do a very sad high pitched whine, when she knows I'm getting ready to leave. I finally just decided to take her out with me and have taken her to the grocey store (Jewel, Dominicks) and to Target. I snuck her into a movie once, and she made me really nervous at one point when she started to growl at some people up high, moving around! :) In Dallas (where my parents live), I've taken her to outdoor and indoor malls and to city halls. The only place I've gotten kicked out of is Walmart, both in Chicago and Dallas! Zoey loves her carrier because she knows she gets to come along...and everytime, I reach for my keys, she scrambles to climb into it! |
Jasmine is 9 months and has never been in a carrier. Do you think it's to late to start? She absolutely hated her crate. By the way, she is very well behaved and she hardly ever barks. |
Just wanted to say a big thanks Kim - I printed out the service animals info. and figure I can carry this with me until I can get some little cards made up. I also have high blood pressure and take a mild antidepressant so I think I'll start taking Tuck a few more places - we already go to K-mart, bookstores, Blockbuster and even Subway once. I really didn't think about those other "disabilities" that aren't so obvious. Awesome!!!! Tucker thanks you too. Dana |

I live in Dallas and I always wanted to take Fred to the Galleria since he's finally up to date on his shots but the many times that I have been there, I have never seen any dogs! |
I have high blood pressure and pointed out to my husband some time ago that he was lucky that I got Carter to help control it! Great information!!! Thanks! |
Generally speaking, the higher end parts of town (like Beverly Hills, Century City, etc.) have a better time w/ allowing dogs. We take him to outdoor malls, as these are usually pet friendly. A lot of places have a "No Animals" policy...but it is possibly enforced 60 - 70% of the time. We've tried to go to Home Depot w/ our yorkie. One time...no problem. Another time, we couldn't. And the funny thing is...w/ all the toxic chemicals that is present at Home Depot...they will not let in a dog? (I do understand that it is a possible liability IF an animal is to bite someone, but we have our dog in a shopping cart.). I could step on a nail at Home Depot and sue for everything...but my yorkie isn't permitted because he might bite someone? We usually can't bring him into Starbucks. I understand, as this is a health code violation. Not a problem. I don't have any issues about this at food estalishments. My gf tries to bring him in though. I don't say anything and let her attempt this. Thanks for the link about Service Animals. Hmm...that is a great idea! |
Yorkie Girl---what kind of carrier do you have for both of them? I always take Hallie shopping with me, Simon hates going anywhere like that. I've taken her to Target (which is very friendly here), the mall, grocery shopping, not so much anymore here in NY but when I was traveling through Hershey, PA they were very pet friendly and I took both of them in stores with me. |

Home Depot used to be one of the friendliest places for dogs around here, but just recently (past few months) they put up a BIG NO DOGS ALLOWED sign. :( |
