Can A 2pd Climb Stairs? Zip is 16 weeks and is about 2 pds. He wont go up or down the stairs. Is he still just to small? He goes out the doggie door but wont walk down the stairs but he will walk up it to come in. In the beginning I did see him walk down the ramp with the other 2 but now he wont. He wants me copme get him and put him down on the ground to potty. He watches the other 2 run up and down the stairs but he will just whine for me to get him. I am wondering is he just to small still? |
oops outside the doggie door is a ramp not stairs. the stairs are in the house. |
Well, my Louie to this day will not go down stairs and he is 5 lbs. he has gone up them before, but not for a while now. When he was about 6 months old he fell down my stairs. , but I really think that it depends on the dog and their personality how, when or if they will be climbers or not. |
Yes a 2lbs yorkie can climb stairs but may be scared. I know it took my at the time just over 2lbs pooch about 4-6 weeks before he would go up or down the inside stairs. Which is kind of funny because he would use the outside stairs after about 2 weeks. He still want go down to the basement stairs. I think he is unsure whats down there. He has no trouble get in the chairs in the den now either. At the time I figured he would get it with all the jumping and playing he does it was just a matter of time. |
My Sissy is 8 months old, 3 1/2 lbs and will not go down the stairs. She has no difficulty running up them, or jumping onto the couch. To get down from the couch or even the bed (which is much higher) - she litterally flies! She did fall down the stairs once shortly after she came home, at around 14 weeks old. Since then, she will not even try to go down the stairs. She will jump down from the deck, but it is low and flat. I think she knows her body is top-heavy and when she does things slowly, she topples over. I don't think this is going to change. She stands at the top of the stairs and whines when she wants to get down. |
bunjee didn't start going down the stairs until he was over 5 months, nearly 6 months old. and thus far, he's still refusing to go up or down the stairs in my parents' house. the stairway at my parents' is all hardwood and pretty slick. he has no traction and slipped down the stairs once while trying to go up. so to this day, he just wait at the top of the stairs or the bottom of the stairs and either barks at me or just waits for me to pick him up. he has no problems with carpeted stairs or outside stairs. |
As soon as I got Diezel puppy pet steps (I think he was 5 months) He had no problem going up any steps he sees. As far as going down them he is still a little nervous and wont go down just any. |
Dezi is 3lbs now, but when she was 2lbs she went up the stairs. She does not go down the stairs. |
Rocky will walk up stairs but will not go down them. He little butt flips over his head when he attempts to go down stairs. |
Scooter is 2 lbs and he will go up stairs and down stairs. He's a really brave puppy though and I think his breeder was magic. |
Summer just turned 16 weeks and she runs up and down the stairs and has been for a while now. I am not sure how much she weighs but I am sure it is probably only around 2 pounds or less. She started climbing them when she was only probably 10 or 12 weeks old. She loves running up and down the stairs. It took her a little longer to go down them but now she goes up and down all the time. My stairs are pretty steep too. |

My wife took our yorkie to a friends house last year when she was still very young and she ran up and down the stairs in my friends home. The friend made a comment like "wow she is so brave going up stairs like that." My wife didn't understand what she meant until she said something about her much older dog being afraid of it. I think this is just something dogs have to overcome I guess. If I were you I would put a leash on your dog and walk with him up and down the stairs a few times a day. |
I didn't have stairs at my house when I got Diva so when I would go to my parents she would whine anytime anyone wnet up the stairs. Finally my stepdad made it a fun game and tuahgt her to go up the stairs. Then she would whine at the top to come down. It took him about 3 days of playing with her and giving her treats to get her to come down. Now we are just trying to teach her to slow down. She runns them like it's a NASCAR track. She loves it! |
we have steps in our house and it took Georgie a month or so to get use to them. He would sit at the top and whine and someone would have to go get him and bring him down then he would run right back up!!! I think your baby may just be scared he will come around and then watch out :D |
