Weird way of throwing uP????????? OK, Roxi woke up this morning and refused to eat her food. I noticed she had the hiccups, but got rid of them quickly. About an hour later she was walking and watery liquid just came up and out of her mouth. No blood or yellow tinge, just clear. Due to her empty stomach. Then about 20 minutes later she decided she was ready to eat and did so. But about 30 minutes later, she was walking around and up it came again. But okay here is my question.....I have seen many dogs throw up in my life. Most of them have to "work it up", but she is just walking and out of nowhere it just comes out. Is this a sign of something? I wonder if maybe she has acid reflux. It kinda remiinds me of when a baby spits up all of a sudden. No diarrhea, or anything else. She has been sleeping all day, but that could be a puppy thing. Oh and she is 14 weeks old. Thanks for your help-tara

Is she pooping on a regular basis? (not pooping could signal a blockage) If she is eating and pooping okay she may just have a sensitive stomach and she gets upset when her tummy is empty. We have had that problem with Shelby but it has gotten better as she has gotten older. She doesn't eat quite as much carpet crud anymore. Be sure to talk to your vet about it at your next visit or call if the problem continues.

Oh yea she is pooping fine, but not alot today. But the again she only ate once. She pooped 2 times last night while we were in bed. It's not "ribbon like" in shape and It's soft (she is on canned food). Did your baby just spit up with her sensitive stomach? it's really weird. Thanks for the info-Tara

It may be just like a baby spitting up. I think the key as to whether or not she is sick -- is her behavior. Is she acting sick or perfectly normal? My 6-month old pup threw up a couple times last week (two different days) for some unknown reason. He ate something he shouldn't have or ate or drank too fast - who knows! But - he's fine. In fact, he was fine, happy, and playful (eating and drinking) on the days he threw up. I have had so many pets - haven't we all? And - don't we know that they all throw up once in a while - and aren't sick at all. So - keep an eye on your pup. Hopefully, she's just fine. And - I almost think that since she threw up so easily with no retching, etc., makes it more likely that she isn't really sick. Good luck! Carol Jean

"retching" thats the word I was looking for! Thank you so much, it was on the tip of my tounge!!!!!!! Thanks alot for easing my fears...the first thing I thought was LIVER SHUNT! She isn't really acting sick, she is just not as hyper! She is still running and playing, but not as much as usuall. But then again today she has been stuck in the house all day! I have a stomach virus and am in the bed. maybe she is calm because I am sleeping alot!

I am sorry you aren't feeling well Yes, my pup just spit up. It was clear sometimes, foamy sometimes and yellow sometimes. As I said she doesn't do it very often now. It happened one time last week when were were on vacation in a townhome that had new carpet crud for her. I did everything I could to stop her from cleaning the carpet but no luck. I told my husband that she would hurl the next morning and sure enough she did. twice. Shelby thinks she is a vacumn. The vet told me to make sure she eats a little bit last thing at night and first thing in the morning. She suggested lowfat cottage cheese or plain yogurt. good luck and be sure to call the vet if you are still concerned tomorrow.

Megaesophogus Sometimes when a dog doesn't retch and they just spit up the food, it can be a sign of Megaesophogus. That's when the esophogus doesn't propel food into the stomach properly, only liquads. If she isn't better, maybe you should have that checked out as well. If you got her from a breeder, you might want to give them a call as well to ask about any hereditary diseases that run in her lines. I'm not sure how prevalent Magaesophogus is in yorkies.
