Will Her Hair Grow???? Ok, I'm such a paranoid when it comes to my Gracie. See her pictures: on her own myspace page: (I would put pics up, but Im new and dont know how yet) http://www.myspace.com/gracieyorkie Ok, I read, researched, and did as much as I could before i bought her. And I love her with all my heart, and would never ever change anything about her. Never. But I can't help but worry if she is a true Yorkie. I see so many pictures and I see quite a few that often resemble her somewhat. But her hair is taking so long to grow. (I think?) She was born Nov 18th, that makes her 5 months. What do you think? Does she look like she will have the long straight coat Maybe? I have another Yorkie, his name is Bailey, I will post a topic about him after this one. When do they usually stop growing, and when will her hair be at full length? Or I should say whats the typical time for a Yorkie to have a full coat? Am I being too paranoid. I am, because she is CKC, and after I purchased her, I've heard all sorts of rumors about the CKC (continental Kennel Club). That they will just allow anything into their CLubs. So, I guess to be blunt, Im worried, she may be mixed, and her papers are false saying she is a Yorkshire Terrier. please tell me Im going crazy? Thanks, and its nice to be on the boards! |
Hi there, welcome to YT. My name is Anne and my yorkie is called Pippa. I wouldnt worry about Gracie's coat too much,my Pippa's coat took ages to start growing but now it grows so quick im forever giving her a trim :D |
Thanks I am just insanely driving myself crazy over this, People look at her and laugh it off at me, because they know how much its bothering me. They say oh shes inbred, oh shes a mut, oh she's mixed. Of coarse they say this just kidding, because they know it bothers me. We have the weirdest way to show love in our family. But neways, I love her so much, I guess I am worried. But thanks, I just hope it grows, it seems like her hair isnt moving since we brought her home. Maybe Im just not noticing. :aimeeyork |
Don't worry too much about her length, she is still a puppy. It may all depend on what texture of the coat. Cotton or silk. I posted the almost the same topic as yours but mine had to do changing colors and what does texture have to do with it. So what texture is she? |
I can't see it...stupid firewalls. Is there a way you can post pictures here? |
She has a silky texture when she gets out of the bath..and is dried after the bath, it takes two days, and her hair feels more like its a wiry feeling, but fresh and clean, she has a silky texture. Aww Im glad I found a place like this. I've been looking everywhere. |
awwwwwww looky at your gracie, give me a few moments and I sure will try it out. |
Welcome to YT. to post pictures here, scroll down from where you write your message to where it says manage attachments, then browse to find your pictures. if they are to big, and you arent able to resize them, you can PM me for my email address and email them to me and I will resize them for yhou. I have read that some yorkies take three years to get a floor length coat and some have it by 18 months. It just depends on the dog. There is no one "normal" anything when it comes to yorkies. |
here is a pic of gracie 4 Attachment(s) ok let me try this... :p |
1 Attachment(s) Your Yorkie looks very similar to my Yorkie!!! Mine will be 5 mths on May 9th... I'm going to take her to get all her puppy her trimmed in hopes it'll grow out nice. |
Ahh, she's cute and looks all yorkie to me :) |
oh they do look very similar, see your post puts me at ease. I see so many pics, I guess Im being paranoid. so I should take her to get her hair trimmed at such a young age if I want her hair to grow long? would trimming her now help her hair grow faster like it does us humans? |
She looks like a yorkie to me. :p But in your situation, it just takes time. My yorkie, Jeremiah, has fast growing hair and he has cotton-texture hair but he can't seem to change colors like a yorkie with a silk coat. |
That's what I've been told... well, not necessarily that it'll help it grow faster, but healthier! BTW- Bella is AKC registered. Just thought I'd tell you that since you were worried about yours looks and being CKC. I brought my daughter in here to see your pics and she kept saying "Not uh... that's Bella!!!". :) |
gee thanks yall! I love this place...:) Do you guys see the picture of Bailey??? WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE HUH? Hes such a good boy. I miss them so much, Im at work, they are at home...:( I miss them every day. 2 more hours and I will see my babies...yay!! :hearts-xx Gracie, :hearts-xx Bailey, & their Mommy :hearts-xx See Im getting the hang of this... yeah I about got it!! |
awww thats funny :) |
Pm me your e-mail addy. I have something to show you. |
She looks all yorkie to me! One of my girls had very coarse hair as a pup and I swear- her coat just didn't grow. I was just like you, all worried about whether or not it would ever grow. She was about 8 months old before she started getting any length to her coat. Since then it has grown like crazy! Now it is a nice, shiny, silky gorgeous coat. CKC gets a bad rep- although they will register a litter from two registered different breeds, it states on the certificate that these are not purebred dogs. If your registration certificate states "Purebred" you don't have anything to worry about. |
Wow, Kammie looks like your Yorkie. She was born Nov. 15th. I took her to the groomer for the first time last week. She trimmed her feet, tail and underside, and face. Now she doesn't have to look thru all the hair on her face. She also had her nails trimmed. She looks more grown up and her eyes look beautiful. :aimeeyork I have a friend who has a Yorkie with a cottony coat. It is really long at 9 months but always looks oily or matted even after she gets home from the groomer. Her coloring doesn't seem quite right either. They have made comments about Kammie's hair being coarse and theirs being soft. Well, I've been reading about the hair that is coarse or wiry when they are pups, and looks like it may not grow longer as fast but, it will be silky and will not tangle and matte easily. It also will be more likely to achieve its proper color. The husband has even made the same comments about Kammie being a mutt. Well, maybe We'll have the last laugh with a more managable coat that reflects the light better! |
wow, you guys don't know how confident I feel about her now. Thanks so much. I can't wait.. Next Question...lol |
do you have a pic of your kammie? |
Abigail's hair sounds like your yorkie. When she is clean and for few days after until she gets dirty her hair is really silky. She is almost 2 years old and I am still trying to get her hair to grow out. I had her groomed once and I trimmed her ends twice less than a inch each time. And her hair is still not even half way to the floor yet hardly. So I wouldn't worry if I was you. |
2 Attachment(s) Here are a couple of pictures I took of Kammie today while we were outside. Her hair is just barely past her stomach. I don't know if the picture shows it but her head is starting to get really silver. The new silver hair is silky. |
My 4 month old female looks just like yours. I have been worried about her hair also. My last litter had a very heavy coat and so did her sister. She don't look anything like her sister. She looks almost exactly like yours. I will send pics soon. |
Hello Welcome to Yorkie Talk.........Your baby Gracie looks just perfect! She is a little doll! Don't let those folks get to ya........ My Dinkey is 1yr 5 months and he has a cotton coat that doesn't grow much at all. I still love him dearly. Hang in there........... :) |
4 Attachment(s) Your Gracie looks like my Romeo!!! Romeo has shorter dry hair that hasn't grown very fast and he is almost 9 months old. I was told Romeo might be a red legged yorkie but his hair is starting to grow now that I started him back on Solid Gold Seameal. You might try that. You never know but she is beautiful!!! The thing I like about Romeo's hair is it grows back away from his face and I have saved a lot on him with grooming since he needs no haircut anytime soon and he is easy to wash...I think of it as a benefit of having him...besides all the yorkie kisses he gives (he can kiss you silly, lol). If you have any questions about the seameal feel free to ask me! :-) ~Tru |
Oh, they are all so cute 4 Attachment(s) I think all your puppies have more hair than my little Dylan. He is 4 months old today. I can tell that my little guys hair has grown since I got him at 8 weeks especially on the top of his head but why isn't his hair on his legs growing? He also has very little hair on his chest (it's almost bare). No wonder he is so cold blooded. His hair is very soft but the hair on his torso looks almost dry. Is he a red legged yorkie? His legs are a pretty deep red color. |
She is very cute. I think she looks like a purebred Yorkie and I think her coat is just fine for 5 months. Don't worry so much about what she will look like as an adult that you miss enjoying how she is as a baby. The baby stage goes by way too fast to want to hurry through it. |
Dylan looks a lot like my Abby too. Her hair is really strange. The top of her head is really long and the undercoat is blue and the outer coat is more silver. She wore the hair off where i had a halter on her. She kept scratching her back and the hair left is a dark blue. She is 5 months old and i think she is going to be georgeous. "fingers crossed". She is changing daily and i can't wait to see what she grows up to be. lol. I love her regardless. Her hair on her body is about an inch long now. The top of her head is about two inches. I can get a bow in it. She can get it out too. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a pic of my Gracie who passed away 9 years ago at the age of 6 1/2. She had a sparse coat when she was a puppy. Here is a pic of her at about 3 years old. I had her groomed every 4 weeks by a professional groomer. So their coats do come in eventually. |
